About this property

5 Star Country House ideally located for world class Scottish golf courses

A magnificent Georgian Category B listed country house set in the heart of the Don Valley, Aberdeenshire. Nestled in 65 acres of beautiful grounds overlooking the River Don, the estate is made up of manicured lawns and parkland, agricultural land and ancient woodlands. Resident native breeds of highland cows and highland ponies enjoy the lush pastures in front of the house and provide a great photo opportunity. The west wing of the property has been restored to an exceptional standard and is officially graded 5-star self catering by Visit Scotland (you can find us on their website). It is made up of 3 very spacious luxury apartments with 7 bedrooms in total. Large enough for a big family celebration yet flexible enough to find yourself a quiet space when required! (each apartment has its own lounge and kitchen in addition to the 7 bedrooms) This listing is for exclusive hire of the entire wing, including the billiard room and boot room. The accommodation comfortably sleeps 13 adults. Good quality movable beds are available for up to 5 additional guests (additional fee). There are also cots available for infants. The property also benefits from full fibre broadband (500MB) allowing you to work throughout your stay if required.

Here’s a version under 1,500 characters:We cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay at Manar House. We traveled from Texas for a family wedding nearby, and Manar became the perfect home base for our family. The house itself is extraordinary — historic, beautiful, spacious, and full of character, while still having all the modern comforts you need. The suites were every bit as impressive as the photos, the kitchens and bathrooms were excellent, and even the water pressure was outstanding. Our kids, ages 11 and 9, loved the grounds. They spent hours outside on the rope swing, exploring, feeding the Highland cows, and enjoying the cool Scottish weather. My dad also fell in love with the horses in the nearby pasture and started calling them “his horses” by the end of the trip. The location was perfect: peaceful and private, but still close to Inverurie for restaurants, groceries, Tesco, Morrisons, and anything else we needed. I also loved being able to walk from the property to nearby trails and East Aquhorthies Stone Circle.Dean and Christina were fantastic hosts — kind, responsive, helpful, and easy to communicate with. They gave great local guidance and helped make the trip smooth.Manar House is not just a beautiful place to stay; it feels like a house with a story. We stayed at several lovely places in Scotland, but Manar was the one that truly felt like home. We are very grateful and would recommend it without hesitation.

We have been restoring the property for around 6 years since we acquired the house and estate. We live on the estate with our young family and 2 dogs. Following completion of all the critical works to save the fabric of the building we focused our attention on the West Wing. Now complete, we are very happy to welcome guests into this luxury accommodation. If you'd like to discuss hire of the West Wing in conjunction with event planning, please get in touch, we are the perfect blank canvas for you.

Why they chose this property

Stunning Scottish countryside which feels away from it all but only 5 mins from a lovely market town

What makes this property unique

The House has an amazing historic pedigree and has a cool link to the British Royal family. Highly rated young architect John Smith built the house in 1811 and went on to become one of the most famous architects in Scotland culminating in him winning the commission from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to build the current Balmoral Castle in 1856 following their purchase of the estate in 1852.

Now fully renovated to the highest possible standard, the property offers a unique combination of historic charm and modern luxury.
