About this property
Apple cottage: A cosy cottage with log burners and mature garden. Pet-friendly.
Apple cottage is a spacious 3 bedroom cottage which retains many of its original features. It has plenty of areas to relax with seating in the living room, TV lounge, kitchen and conservatory as well as numerous areas throughout the extensive garden which includes an orchard. The sound of birds singing at the bottom of the garden allows a time to reflect and connect with nature.
Our holiday cottage provides the perfect getaway for those looking to relax, unwind and explore the Machars; a picturesque peninsula located in Dumfries and Galloway, South West Scotland.
Fantastic local food includes seafood, award-winning beef, lamb and cheese in the local area. There are wonderful local pubs, cosy restaurants, gardens, rivers, walks, cliff top paths and rocky coves. And the chance to reconnect in a peaceful, beautiful place.

Externally Apple cottage has a huge garden which includes an apple orchard, boules pitch and bags of character. The top area of the garden is paved with the larger area through the gate being a mix of lawn, paths and flowerbeds / trees. The garden is extensive and has a a large selection of plants, tree and shrubs as well as a vegetable patch. There is a small burning area at the bottom of the garden next to the boules pitch. Boules are provided so guests can enjoy a game.
At the front of the cottage is a pavement and quiet road. Across the road is a field and the picturesque River Bladnoch with its plentiful bird life (numerous ducks, swans, herons etc.). It is possible to fish on this river however a fishing permit is required.
This delightful corner of Southwest Scotland will tempt all ages to return time and again. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit including Galloway House Gardens as well as Threave and Logan Botanic Gardens.
The beaches are deserted, wild and numerous with waves, rocks and sand in abundance.
Enjoy a drive to the Galloway Forest Park which is perfect for cycling or walking in forests and hills. There are picturesque lochs, plentiful wildlife (including a wild goat park and red deer park) and starry skies. Galloway Forest Park was the UK’s first Dark Sky Park.
Apple cottage is situated in Bladnoch, next to Bladnoch Distillery which is Scotland’s most southerly distillery. It includes a visitor centre and coffee shop (cafe Melba).
Bladnoch is one mile from Wigtown with a pavement between the two villages so is a pleasant walk. Wigtown is Scotland’s National Book Town and is host to numerous independent bookshops and coffee shops.
Nearby is the Crook of Baldoon RSPB Nature Reserve, Baldoon RAF Airport (disused) with lots of WW2 pill boxes and buildings hidden away. Torrhouse standing stones, Whithorn Priory, St. Ninians cave, Kirroughtree Seven Stanes Mountainbiking and Wigtown Martyrs Stake. There are also several golf courses for those interested in golfing at Wigtown, St Medans and Newton Stewart.
For youngsters, there is playing on the beach, rock pooling, rock climbing, catching crabs, play parks, Cocoabean chocolate factory, nature trails, cycle tracks, picnics and plentiful wildlife.
For older children and teens, the great outdoors awaits with world class mountain biking at Kirroughtree, climbing, sea and river kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, horse riding, hillwalking and fishing.
Apple cottage is a great base for the beautiful coastline of Wigtownshire and also the remote Galloway hills.
