About this property

Maison Des Platanes - Four Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 11

There is an air of romance at this 18th Century Maison de Maitre as the dappled light shines through the century old plane trees. In a perfect position between Avignon and St-Rémy, this beautiful manor house set in vast gardens is a wonderful home for families or friends wanting to stay in this captivating part of Provence.

Great care has been taken to retain many original features of this elegant house and the owners have created a classic look with contemporary design. Bedrooms are bright with beautiful windows overlooking the gardens whilst the living space is ample and designed with comfort in mind. Modern and antique furnishings stand side by side alongside the impressive 21st century kitchen which complements features such as the living room's grand 18th century fire-place.

Gather your loved ones outside for a long lunch under the shade of the ancient trees or simply find your own secret spot in the vast gardens filled with fig trees, oleander, lavender and olives. Colours spill out of the terracotta pots by the original well and fountain and little stone benches or deck chairs can be found across the estate. The shaded terrace along the south façade is the perfect place for your morning coffee as you chat with friends or take a dip in the inviting heated swimming pool, bordered by pristine lawns and cypress trees.

Situated just north of Les Alpilles National Park, you are perfectly positioned between the idyllic villages of the south and Avignon to the north. Visit the Sunday morning market at nearby Chateaurenard, a rural village surrounded by vast orchards and countryside. You may be lucky enough to stay during one of the village's many festivities and be sure to try the local speciality made from herbs; liqueur de Frigolet.

The region is in the heart of this formidable area of vineyards, idyllic hilltop villages, world-renowned towns, and summer landscapes of sunflowers. Gordes is just one of the beautiful villages in the outstanding Luberon region or head to the charming town of St-Rémy where you can soak up the true Provençal way of life, especially on markets days. Wine lovers mustn't miss out on a visit to Châteauneuf-du-Pape whilst Van Gogh's precious Arles and Baux-de-Provence, one of France's acclaimed 'Plus Beaux Villages', are also within easy reach. Whether it is cycling through lavender fields, hiking through mesmerising countryside or simply relaxing on your vast estate, whilst staying at Maison des Platanes you are sure to create some wonderful memories of your time in this idyllic part of Provence.

Nearby Châteaurenard is a rural village surrounded by vast orchards and countryside. There's a market on a Sunday morning where you can pick up some liqueur de Frigolet (herbal liquor), a local speciality. This is the real Provence which is relatively peaceful yet full of charm and character. You may be lucky enough to stay during one of the village's many festivities.

The small and lively city of Avignon is just a short drive away. The covered market offers all sorts of delights or head to the weekend farmers, flower and flea markets for wonderful local produce and a bargain or two. The bohemian quarter of the city, just next to the Sorgue river, has more of a village atmosphere with its artists, musicians, cafes and wine-bars.

The region is in the heart of this formidable area of vineyards, idyllic hilltop villages, world-renowned towns, and summer landscapes of sunflowers. Gordes is just one of the beautiful villages worth visiting with stunning architecture, set in the outstanding Luberon region, surrounded by lavender fields in the summer months. Or head south to the heart of the Parc Naturel Regional des Alpilles and the charming town of St-Rémy-de-Provence where you can soak up the true Provençal way of life, especially on markets days. Those looking for activity have so much on their doorstep. There is both horse-riding and golf within a short drive and both the immediate and wider area are a walkers and cyclists paradise with stunning countryside and landscapes. Older children will love kayaking along the Rhône or Sorgue and there are plenty of other family friendly activities throughout the region from model railways and open castles to trekking across the tree tops and visiting a zoo.

History lovers should also visit the city of Nîmes with its fine collection of Roman remains including Maison Carree, one of the best preserved Roman temples in the country. Just north of the city is the stunning Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
