About this property
Idyllic Gialova apartment overlooking Navarino Bay. 3mins drive to the beach
Arkady is set in a 7,000 square metres of olive grove and gardens with panoramic views of Navarino Bay, Pylos and the mountains behind. You will be close enough to the centre of Gialova to walk to the beach and restaurants ( 10 mins walk / 3 mins by car ). The apartment has everything you expect in high quality, self contained holiday accommodation, with a full kitchen on the wide balcony so you can enjoy incredible views and the sound of a million cicadas while cooking or washing-up. There's a small pool and sun terrace in the olive grove with sunbeds and a shaded area with tables and easy chairs for idyllic lunches under the olive trees or quiet reading. Lying in the pool at night is a magical way to star-gaze.
Gialova offers a fantastic range of restaurants, cafes and bars whilst retaining a friendly small village atmosphere. Apart from our quiet local beach, Golden Beach at the other side of the village offers 3km of safe, sandy beach. Palio Kastro ( old castle) is on the cliff above - a great walk, with stunning views of Voidikilia beach, below - voted one of the top ten beaches in the world by the New York Times. (Voidokilia and Nestor's Cave above feature in Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey' as the home of the Cyclops. ) Because of UNESCO status it remains undeveloped. If you prefer not to to drive you can rent bicycles .
We can help you organise boat rental so you can explore the islands, go snorkelling and find the tiny 'secret beach' of Sphacteria. On the island is a wooden church built by the Russians to commemorate the Battle of Navarino.
This area abounds with natural and historic interest including Nestor's Palace, beautiful waterfall walks, Ancient Olympia, The Temple of Apollo Epicurus at Bassae, Ancient Messini and Methoni Castle, once known as 'The Eyes Of Venice' for it's strategic importance.
The small town of Pylos is 5km from Arkady apartment, has good supermarkets, a castle and museums and is one of the most beautiful old towns in the Peloponnese.
We are sheltered from the open sea by the island of Sphacteria, where the Athenians finally defeated the Spartans in 425bc and the Spartans camped on our beach !
This area is far enough from Athens to be still off the beaten track. People that come here enjoy a peaceful, unspoilt, relaxed atmosphere and the friendly rural community maintains its identity and customs.
Arkady apartment is family owned and independent. We look forward to welcoming you here for a memorable holiday.

So glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We are just far enough from Gialova that you feel you are on your own in the olive groves with great views yet near enough to enjoy the beaches and the local tavernas. Ancient Messene is just 2 hours away and Olympia 2.5 hours away - both easily done in a day trip with a swim. If you like walking, the waterfall is 40 minutes over the hill and there is a swimming pool in 150 metres with bar and meals. Lots of castles and things to see nearby.
Our family had a wonderful time here. Nigel was just perfect host by giving nice tips about places to visit and he kindly brought some toys to our kids to play during our holiday. Location was peaceful since we were only quests during our stay. Beautiful views!
An amazing stay facilitated by lovely hosts. We were made to feel very welcomed with lots of tips on local things to do and see. I especially loved the outdoor kitchen. I would whole heartedly recommend Fiona's place.

Stay near Gialova
This was an ideal place for a holiday - it had rooms and facilities for the 4 of us (2 couples), and a balcony with a fantastic view where we could sit and relax, eat our meals and drink some local wine. The area has loads of places to visit - we only stayed for 4 nights but all wished we'd booked for longer. Fiona and Nigel are both lovely and welcoming - we would definitely recommend and hope to return. Or maybe see them in Leicester!

The perfect place to stay in the Peloponnese
Spacious and attractive apartment with wonderful views. The outdoor kitchen and balcony was a unique experience! The garden and olive groves made a perfect setting to laze away the day and enjoy the swimming pool. The owners were exceptional in their care and guidance of best places to visit. They couldn’t do enough to make our holiday so memorable. We started off as visitors and felt that we left as friends!

Hi Fiona and Guy, Thank you so much for deciding to stay with us and for your favourable review ! We enjoyed hosting you and we're extremely pleased that what we have to offer suits you both so well.
This area is quite special and apart from the magnificent beaches has many places to visit that are often not apparent at the holiday planning stage. As you mentioned , archaeological sites, castles ,museums and interesting out of the way tavernas, lovely walks, and islands waiting for a rental boat make it difficult to decide whether to spend the day relaxing or exploring. You did very well dividing your week into half exploring and half relaxing. We hope to see you again soon !
Best wishes,
Fiona and Nigel xx

Great place
Me and my family spent one week in the apartment and really enjoyed it. The apartment is very nice and has a big balcony. You have a fantastic view over the sea, Pylos and the landscape which is why we spent most of the time outside on the balcony. Fiona and Nigel are very friendly, polite and meet every wish. You can really see that they love to host people.
The apartment is located in the middle of olive trees which is very nice. It is very quiet and pretty.
Thanks a lot Fiona and Nigel, we really enjoyed staying in your apartment.

Location location location... excellent
We had a 10 day stay at the apartment. We utilised the extra bedroom downstairs and were really impressed with the location. The views are outstanding and aside of a few thunderstorms we had a lovely holiday. We used our car mainly to get to Gialova and then we mainly walked. We were able to walk to and from town in under half an hour which was a perfect distance to walk off the amazing food and drinks that Gialova offers. Fiona and Nigel were lovely hosts and couldn't do enough to help/ advise us. We really felt that we experienced a snippet of the Greek lifestyle in and around the olive groves.

Having had so many guests who rent a car for their entire holiday and then barely use it, we will, in future, inform everyone who books with us of the option of using our good local taxi driver, Dimitris, to meet them at the airport . We have also set up an arrangement with a local car hire firm, Rigatos Cars who we know very well and who are happy to deliver cars to guests only for the number of days they really want. They are cheaper than the big companies and do not charge the huge insurance excess which can easily turn into a very expensive headache.
We're extremely lucky in that the most local and best value restaurant in Gialova, 'To Stasi Taverna,' ( just over the road from the beach ) is the closest to us ( 10 mins walk there, 15 mins walk back! ) We promise that when they give you a 10 kilo watermelon ( which they frequently do) we will collect it for you and transport it home ! We aim to ensure all our guests enjoy happy, relaxing and totally stress-free holidays.

Beautiful view from the apartment
Thank you for your warm welcome in your houses. Our expectations of a warm and resting holiday were fulfilled. The climate, beaches and wonderful sceneries of Methonia and Gialova helped, but the comfortable, well-equipped house and the beautiful view from the apartment Elektra associated with your care of our well being made the difference. Of course we look forward to and will be coming back. Take good care of yourselves and family and see you soon.

Seafood, best beach ever, history, olives...
What a lovely fortnight that was - thanks for all the help, advice, delicious bread and those life-saving cheese sandwiches on the day we left (just when we were completely in the middle of nowhere everyone suddenly got very hungry!) . We changed plans on the way to Athens and did Mycenae instead, so Ancient Messini is a treat for next time.
Gialova gave us exactly what we wanted. A restful break away from the crowds in a beautiful and fascinating part of Greece, with amazing food straight out of the sea and off the land. And the fact that Greeks clearly go there on their holiday too is a really good sign.
Thanks again. You live in a lovely place!
We had a lovely week in a fabulous location. This first floor apartment has amazing sea views and catches the breeze. The swimming pool was perfect for cooling off after a day out and about. Fiona and Nigel are excellent hosts, providing you with a very comprehensive info pack and also local hints and tips. Giolova is an upmarket cluster of restaurants and shops and we had a number of lovely dinners here. Try the ice-cream parlours as well. We hired a boat and went scuba diving with Nikos at Pilos Marine Dive Shop in nearby Pilos (Pylos) - highly recommended. The beaches are lovely and the waterfalls and pools of Polylimnio well worth the walk. Overall, an amazing area and very pleasant apartment for a family of 4.

Beautiful, tranquil spot for a special time away.
My husband and I spent 10 days here and loved it! Spectacular views over the sea greeted us every morning and sunsets and starry nights were our companions when the sun went down.
Our favourite part was the outdoor balcony (yes, with the view) and its open air kitchen. Since my husband is an excellent cook, we spent many evenings (and lunchtimes) lingering on the balcony as we felt it was the best place to be. The neighbouring village of Gialova has lots of good places to dine, but there was something special about lounging at home and not going anywhere.
We;d never visited the Peloponnese region before and are in love with this part of the world. From our home base at Arkady, we found plenty to see and do on day trips and road trips so we're keen to return and see more of what we missed the first time around.
Overall, a very special spot to relax and soak up the Greek lifestyle.
We had a very relaxing holiday in this apartment with our 2 children aged 16 and 13. Nigel and Fiona were great hosts who provided lots of local information about places to visit and where to eat. We made great use of the pool and the terraced area for sunbathing and cooling off and the apartment is in a great location for us to travel further afield to Olympus, Koroni and Sparta. Lots of interesting historical places to visit as well as beautiful, clean and uncrowded beaches a short distance from the apartment, our favourite was Golden Beach just 10 minutes away by car with shallow, warm waters. We even managed to swim in the local waterfall and had it all to ourselves! Lots of places to eat in Gialova and surrounds, we never had a bad meal, and when you are cooking or just relaxing on the balcony at the apartment the view is just amazing! This area of Greece is beautiful and unspoilt and we would love to return in the future.

Fabulous place & people
We (2 adults, one 12 year old) were here for 10 nights, shared between both apartments. There's not much difference between them apart from upstairs has 2 bathrooms. Fiona & Nigel could not have been more accommodating, friendly and considerate. They will stay out of your way if you prefer, but we had a couple of evenings with their family & friends which were high points of the holiday. Their recommendations for the area, including beaches & restaurants, were spot on and they booked us on a boat trip from Marathopoli which was a lovely afternoon. The area around Gialova is fantastic - there are miles of beaches and plenty of great restaurants but it still feels laid back and nowhere is crowded. The pictures do not do the view justice, it's truly panoramic and the balconies are a wonderful place to cook, sit, eat & relax. We loved it & hopefully will be back...

Breathtaking views, friendly owner, lots to do and see
Wow what a holiday! The apartment was great and far more spacious than we'd thought it would be. The views from the fab kitchen / diner balcony are just simply breathtaking. Fiona and Phoebe were so friendly and helpful with great ideas of what to do, where to go etc.
Highlights for us included:
1. Polylimnio waterfall - you've got to keep climbing up to the higher pools because it just gets better and better,
2. Our day out on a motor boat - so much to see and do (historical sites, snorkelling, stunning beaches etc),
3. Golden Beach is fantastic, especially if you keep going right to the far end.
Finishing up our days with a dip in the pool looking up at the stars was a real treat. The restaurants and bars in Gialova were all very good and reasonably priced - we managed to get a beach side table every night of our stay.
Oh and the sunsets are just stunning across the bay.
Highly recommended.

Quiet location, wonderful view
We've had a fabulous holiday here in Gialova : have loved every minute ! The accommodation has suited us perfectly and the view from the balcony is a treat for the soul every morning. We've taken full advantage of all your recommendations and highlights have included : dining at Kastro's, Andreas' and Niko's in Methoni. Visiting Pylos and Methoni castles and snorkelling from the rocks below Methoni castle. Also dipping into the limpid turquoise waters of Shinolakka waterfalls ; Voidokilia beach and the walk to Nestors cave and Paliokastro ; day trip to fascinating Messini , eating well at Stasi's and Elia's in Gialova and swimming across to Sphacteria from the end of Golden beach. Also visiting Tsapi beach beyond Finikounda and eating the most delicious grilled sardines at the Taverna. A feast for the senses ! It's been a pleasure staying here plus meeting you and your extended family, Nigel , Fiona and Phoebe. Many thanks for your hospitality. We'll be back !

Jane, it was great to meet you and your family and thank you so much for taking the trouble to list some of the many places you have enjoyed visiting. Families especially are pleasantly surprised at how much there is to do here. You can't really see it all in a two week holiday.
Presently we have guests on their second holiday with us determined to just laze on the beach after they made so many excursions on their first trip - but even they will be trying Romanos beach and then the fabulous taverna in Evangelimos - they didn't have enough time before ! To add a few more to the list there is Polilimnio waterfalls near Kazarma, Byzantine tombs just outside Methoni, fishing boat trips to the perfect white sand beach on Sapientza island a 'secret' beach findable with a rental boat on the other end of Sphacteria island and plus scuba diving in Navarino Bay. Hope to see you again soon. Best wishes Nigel and Fiona.

A perfectly breathtaking stay in Gialova
I stayed in Arkady with my 3 year-old son for a week. The photos don't do the place justice - the view from the balcony/outdoor kitchenette over the garden, olive groves out to the bay is just gorgeous.
Fiona spends a lot of time on the garden and the rich scents of roses, geraniums and more exotic blooms were all around us. There is a beautiful space to do your morning stretches with yoga mats provided if you wish. She and Nigel are wonderful hosts, explaining the best local places to swim and eat. I don't drive and they were happy to pick us up from Gialova if we were there for a late meal at Aplo - a very cool place on the beach where they play black and white films outside and serve delicious modern Greek food. The beaches are brilliant for small children, sandy with shallow water and at this time of year, we had them almost to ourselves. I would especially recommend the beach at Methoni and Golden Beach for long picnics on the sand.
The apartment was clean and well-maintained. There is a family atmosphere as the owners live in a separate part of the villa and they were able to lend us some toys, an inflatable ring for the sea, and books to keep my little boy happy.
In short, we didn't want to go home and would recommend this apartment 100%!

Fantastic Relaxing Holiday Accommodation
The holiday met all our expectations and more. Absolutely lovely place and you couldn't ask for more genuinely nice people than Nigel and Fiona, who can't do enough for you. The views from the balcony kitchen are what makes this accommodation a pleasure and so unique, and such a relaxing arena to talk, eat and drink!!! We've only been home a week and miss it greatly. The apartment is very private, no neighbours at all within ear shot or sight, setting is ideal within olive grove. Can't honestly say how much I recommend this accommodation, you will not be disappointed and if you are, then you need to have a serious word with yourself!! The village of Giolova is small but incredibly busy at night in the restaurants in the middle of August, but not commercial or ruined by tourism in the slightest. Many Greeks holiday there and they only do that for one reason, because they enjoy the good food, location and friendly atmosphere.
There are so many good beaches available by car in the vicinity that you'll never get bored, recommend that you hire a car for a week at least which Nigel and Fiona can organise through Vangelis at very reasonable rates.
The local beach is only 10 minutes walk from the apartment and tavernas/restaurants an extra 4 minutes.
All in all I can't recommend this accommodation and Landlords enough, certainly one of the best Greek holidays we've had,but definitely the best apartment we've stayed in.

Exactly what we needed...
Elektra was exactly what we needed. There are two apartments in the house; Arkady and Elektra. We stayed in Elektra for a few days at the beginning of August. The apartment was beautiful, homely (not just the usual whitewashed clinical finish), and clean, with outstanding views of Navarino Bay from the kitchen/balcony. This innovative feature makes more sense than you would fist imagine; and is something that we will remember for long time (if only we had the weather for it in the UK!). The house is situated just far enough up the hill to give you peace and quiet but just close enough to walk to the beach and the village. Perfect… Or, you can walk the other way up amongst all the Olive groves. One of which the house it situated in. And I’m sure you can even borrow a lovely dog from Nigel and Fiona to accompany you if fancy (we recommend Daisy!)…
Nigel and Fiona gave a warm welcome which equalled the weather and the clear waters of the bay. We also took advantage of their recommendations, taking trips to Pylos and Methoni. We saw the Polylimnio Waterfalls, Methoni Castle. We spent many hours snorkelling around the beaches in Methoni and Navarino Bay. If we had had the car for longer we would have gone to Messini and further afield.
Our memories are full of lovely weather, beautiful thunderstorms, sand in beds, warm sea, snorkelling and starfish, sailing, scuba-diving, unfinished books, late trips to the local Stasi restaurant, unpolluted star-filled night skies, and of course Greek salads.
Next time we will try and visit some of the places we didn't have time for, go scuba-diving again, and maybe try a bit of windsurfing or kite-surfing; because we will definitely be returning here and would recommend it to everyone…

A welcome as warm as the beautiful weather.
We enjoyed ourselves so much last year that we decided to return again this year. Our thanks to Fiona & Nigel for the many little touches that made this holiday homely, warm and personal. We had a great time again!
The accommodation is set in a beautiful and peaceful olive grove on the side of a hill overlooking Navarino Bay. Its only a short walk down to the waters edge. The apartments are comfortable and well equipped; including a kitchen on the balcony for al-fresco cooking and eating, and a wide selection of books for those, who want to relax with a glass of wine and a good story. There is also a lovely garden and patio with a swimming pool. Perfect for a midnight swim! We looked at the stars every night and watched meteor showers in the dark night skies. (Not much light pollution here!)
Everything had been arranged smoothly and we felt the welcome and the friendliness of everyone we met. The area has a lot to offer; unspoiled coastal towns with clean beaches and clean water, good food and drink and wall-to-wall sunshine. We ate out in local restaurants nearly every night! It is not expensive and the food and wine are locally produced and freshly cooked.
The scenery is stunning, and the water is crystal clear, great for snorkelling, or even scuba diving which you can try from the local scuba shop in Pylos under the watchful eye of Nicos. You can also hire boats from there, which we did for a day, and went to exlplore the bay and the islands.
Most days we tried a different beach. The kids enjoyed collecting pebbles which we then painted and decorated ….
We also liked going to local villages and towns, especially Gialova and Pylos; both picturesque and lively, full of restaurants and some entertaining local music and events.
No doubt that we will return again. Hopefully next year..

Wonderful bay views in Gialova
We've just had a wonderful week staying in this beautiful apartment near Gialova, a short (approx 40min) drive from Kalamata airport. This is a perfect holiday let for a week in the Peloponnese, in the lovely messenia region. Nigel and Fiona really looked after us very well and made us feel especially welcome. The apartment is in a great location, with a great views, just a short distance downhill to the sandy beaches of the bay. The outstanding feature has to be the open kitchen which can comfortably sit four, which has the amazing view that can be seen in the picture (Thought it's hard to do it justice in one picture). We chose to spend most of our nights cooking from the well appointed kitchen as the view was way better than any tv!
Just down the road is the village of Gialova which has a good selection of shops and restaurants to suit all budgets, the best of any of the towns in the bay, many of the locals from Pylos and the Navarinio dunes headed down there for the great food. Martins beach hire will sort you a couple of bikes for 6 euro a day, which makes for a great cycle around the bay to Voidakillia, which is a wonderful beach and nature reserve. Go and see Niko at Pylos marina to hire a boat for the day and explore the islands and snorkelling spots of the Navarinio Bay - we hired our own boat it was a fantastic day out. Though Nestors palace is alas closed for 2014, the archeological meuseum is open in the nearby town. Ancient messene is a good day trip out and is a must see as are the beautiful secret waterfalls at the Polilimnio canyon (sp.?) If you are looking for history Pylos and the Navarino bay is absolutely steeped in it, from the earliest battles as far back as 400BC to the more recent ousting of the Ottoman Empire. Nigel and Fiona furnished us with some great reading material and there is evidence of shipwrecks and memorials all around the Bay Area.
The property has two bedrooms with shower rooms, and easy parking up a track from the main village. Worth hiring a car, which is ideal for trips to the supermarkets or day trips out - if you don't book via europcar (as we did) - it would be worth asking the hosts as they have a friendly company. You can get to the village for nights out via a short bike ride, and Nigel and Fiona helpfully gave us a lift the few nights that we went down.
All in all, an excellent stay in a lovely apartment, with our wonderful hosts Nigel and Fiona. We'll be back next year!
Eines der schönsten Appartements, das wir in einem Urlaub je genossen haben. Wundervolle Lage. Geschmackvolle Wohnungseinrichtung. Ein toller Balkon mit super Aussicht und guter Küchenausstattung. One of the nicest apartments we have ever enjoyed in a vacation. Great location. Tasteful home furnishings. A great balcony with great views and good kitchen equipment. Extremely friendly and uncomplicated landlords. Most beautiful environment. Just a wonderful place to enjoy a holiday with our two young children and to feel very comfortable. A thousand thanks to Fiona, Nigel and Phoebe. We will be back.

It was a pleasure to have you stay with us.
Some of our guests do not use a car. We arrange a taxi from Kalamata airport. They hire bicycles from Martins shop in Gialova ( which also has mopeds ) and cycle everywhere. Or they borrow ours. This is possible because the roads along the seaside going north west to Voidokilia and beyond are flat for about 10km - 15km.
