This is our third time staying at the Winter Cottage and it was as amazing as ever. Very clean, wonderful space for family, large dining table, beautiful kitchen, comfortable beds, a porch facing the water that you’ll never want to leave, swimming off the dock, kayaking, fishing, ping pong ….in short…perfection.

Wonderful week of fishing, swimming, kayaking, and hiking - and just spending quality family time together. Since there were 14 in our group, the "Great Camp" was just perfect.
We loved our stay at the Winter Cottage. The house and location are beautiful. We loved exploring the property, playing lawn games, and going out on the lake. The house is very comfortable and has a lot of character. We would love to come back!

A win for all...adults, millenials,teens, & kids
This is a remarkable, restored early 1900s property - spacious rooms for large guest/family gatherings with rooms for all activities as well as privacy for those who need it. The house is in good working condition, well equipt kitchen, laundry area with many amenities for land and water, and nearby very good grocery shopping, post office, boat rentals, hiking, waterfall bathing, and just sunning on the new dock. I highly recommend it as Mary and John McKenna are generous hosts.
This is our second time staying at the winter cottage and it is simply perfection. It has everything we look for. Martha is also a great host with wonderful communication. The house sits beautifully on the lake with a dock that is perfect for swimming, fishing, or launching a kayak or paddle board. I miss my morning coffee on the large deck facing the water. It doesn’t lack a thing. Thank you Martha.

Beautiful location, very nice host, very vintage house
The gorgeous location on the water is in our opinion the real draw for this property. Our family ultimately had a truly lovely stay and made memories to last a lifetime. To help others, because I wish someone had done this for me in their reviews I will say that the listing made me think that there were 3 indoor showers. The reality is that the 2 tub-showers on the 2nd floor are vintage tubs with a hand shower, no shower curtain or rail system to use one…just as it would have been in the early days. So don’t expect to use them to take a modern traditional shower where you stand up and shower. It was too cold to use the outdoor shower, so our entire family had to use the one updated shower on the first floor. It’s an old building, the stairs creak loudly and the bedroom beneath them hears each step up and down them. Its a very old building so expect the associated character. Also take note, most all of the kitchen cookware is quite worn and didn’t feel the cleanest. We washed everything prior to using it. Bring sponges and dish towels and lots of paper towels and maybe your own cooking pans if you are accustomed to nice fresh nonstick cookware. Upon arrival there were some cleaning issues that we brought to the hosts attention and she was very kind and took care of them for us. My understanding is that it’s very hard to find good cleaning help currently but they are working on it. Overall a very interesting house, it’s very vintage and if you’re looking for a perfect location on long lake with a great view and lovely water access this could be the place for you. The owner was easily accessible by text and she was incredibly kind which made us all feel comfortable and welcome. We had a wonderful time as a family and are thankful to have had the opportunity and experience.
Our family just spent a week enjoying this beautiful home and property. Our host was very responsive to our questions which made our stay so easy. With 5 children and 7 adults we had ample room, plenty of space to cook and eat and lots of games, boats and other amenities that kept everyone entertained. We were so delighted that the usual array of dollar store kitchenware was not the case in this house. From silverware to appliances, first class! We also loved the charming decor and how it tied in with the incredible beauty of the surroundings. The bathrooms were lovely but the outdoor shower was a huge hit with the kids! There is much more to shout about at "Winter Cottage" but I'll end with an enthusiastic recommendation for the ADK experience in comfort!!!
We throughly enjoyed our week getaway to this unique, historic lodge in the middle of the Adirondacks. The spacious cabin was well stocked, comfortable for a large group with lots of amenities to keep kiddos entertained. The lake was the real show stopper! Fishing was great and the area was quiet and peaceful! Martha was easy to communicate with. Highly recommend!
A beautiful, historic property with beautiful views of the lake. Lots of space and a great location. Loved the back porch for sitting, reading, reflecting. Great amenities! Watched a bald eagle fly by while sitting around the fire pit. Awesome place.
Every detail was perfect in this amazing home. The owners were wonderful. It had everything you would want: well stocked home, dock you can swim from, kayaks, paddle boards, a canoe, grill, comfortable beds, big dining room table, outdoor shower., and an amazing front porch.
With 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms including an outdoor hot shower, it was ideal for being roomy and comfortable. Lots a games. Great porches. Canoe and kayaks and paddle boards made to the activities.
This is a great and very comfortable place in a beautiful location right in the middle of ADK. We stayed for one week with family and friends, party of 8, and all had plenty of space and many conveniences & activities: Kayaking, swimming, hiking, game- and movie-nights. Historic house, clean, well-maintained and tastefully decorated. Great communication with owners, Martha & John. I can truly recommend and hope to stay again in the future. Thank you!
We rented this lovely lake front home for a vacation with another family and family friend. The house was spacious and perfect for 4 teen aged boys. The lake side porch and fire pit were a favorite destination. Long Lake is quiet and beautiful. We rented a pontoon boat that we were able to dock at the home. The boys made good use of the paddle boards, kayaks and canoes. It was a great place to stay!
Wonderful lake side home. We had our extended family there for a special occasion. There is plenty of room for everyone. Kitchen is perfect for many cooks.
Everyone enjoyed the lake for swimming, boating and paddle board. Lovely memories!
I highly recommend.
Beautiful old historic lakefront camp. Our family really enjoyed staying here. Room for everyone!. Well equipped kitchen.

Fall in the Adirondacks - BEAUTIFUL!
Delightful location, huge house. I live nearby but all my friends came from New England, VT, NH, ME, and RI. We visited the Wild Center - so the best attraction in the Adirondacks - then the AIC in Newcomb with a grand collection of walking/interpretive trails. Of course, we had to top it off with a visit the Raquette River Brewing in Tupper Lake for Octoberfest. All in all a great weekend! Thanks, John and Martha!

Very Special Classic Adirondack Home on the Lake
Just returned from a wonderful week in Long Lake. Truly loved staying at "Winter Cottage"- a very authentic, classic Adirondack home, beautifully restored and furnished with respect for the original character of the home, with lots of modern conveniences and comforts. Plenty of room and space for everyone to spread out- there were 11 of us. Loved everything inside and out. Super kitchen was well-stocked with top of the line appliances and tons of charm - a real treat in an old Adirondack home. Appreciated having use of the gas grill outside too! Each room had something special and unique. The front porch was our favorite gathering spot for sure... reading, talking, views of the lake. Comfortable, ample seating as well as the Adirondack chairs on the lawn surrounding the fire pit where we roasted marshmallows at night. we made daily use of the kayaks, the canoe and paddleboard and enjoyed sitting by the dock on the lounge chairs. We had the best time and enjoyed our week in Long Lake! Thank you, John & Martha, for being great hosts!

Cool nights comfortable beds and plenty of room
Fantastic home. Tastefully decorated and historically accurate The porch is the best place to read a non on long lake. The hosts have spared nothing and make a their charbroil grill and extra gas available and had all of their lake toys at the lakeside for our use. The new Dick fit our boat nicely and still plenty of rio. To dive in or wade in from the shore.
If you are looking for a very comfortable large home with beds galore, full kitchen with Viking stove and multiple refrigerators and a view of forever wild state land across the lake, this is the place for you. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our weeks at Martha and Johns lake home and will be back next summer!
