The courtyard shared with others not in great shape. A bit hard to find as we arrived at midnight. Tiny but perfect. Everything inside wonderful. Would definitely book again.
Tiny Gem is aptly named. We loved the location as we could easily walk to all our destinations. Our host was absolutely wonderful about accommodating our arrival and departure times. She also responded promptly to our questions. The apartment was clean and the bed was comfortable. The only reason we gave 4 stars is because of the size but we were comfortable and if you’re using it as a base of operations rather than a place to spend a lot of time, it’s perfect.

A Hidden Gem
This place was in Alfama, the oldest part of the city.
Great property for 1-2 people. It is a smaller property but if you’re only using it to sleep and shower. Right in the heart of Alfama where you can feel the of the old town
We loved our stay at this lovely little apartment. It is truly very small but also charming and in a great location. Despite the slight confusion with our checkin (which was resolved very quickly and amicably), we recommend this place highly. You’ll love it here!
Quite, peaceful, central location. Close to public transit. Close to restaurants. Short walk to live music. Wonderful time!

The apartment was as described so no problem with the apartment but I think that when parking is necessary in a parkade away from the apartment, it should be mentioned up-front when booking the apartment. We drove around the area for hours looking for two parkades we were told to look for to no avail. We ended up dropping off our car rental early and even the Uber driver couldn’t take us directly to the apartment and we had to walk (with all our luggage) to the apartment. Very frustrating.
This “tiny gem” was just that! It was a great location with Alfama, very close to everything. So nice. First floor entry at the end of the street so it was quiet and peaceful. As advertised, it was small; however, there were no surprises. A perfect spot for two in an adventure. Shops, coffee houses, restaurants, Fado performances and many of the major attractions within the Alfama district were within walking distance from this location. We did cook some awesome Portuguese sausages on the small but clearly usable stove. The refrigerator kept our much needed water cold. Also, it was very close to a luggage storage facility that let us land in the morning, stow our luggage so we could hit the town sans luggage in tow until time to check in. Speaking of check in, it was super easy!
It was interesting to stay in the Alfana area, oldest section of Lisbon . We found our unit reasonably quickly but realized the closest parking ( we walked over the cobblestones carrying suitcases, etc) was almost a mile away.Entering the unit it was reasonably clean with the exception of a cockroach (huge) on kitchen floor. Bed was comfortable but TV never worked, not even a Portuguese channel ….. WiFi worked for 1st 15 hours but miraculously disappeared after 1st day & did not return till last 4 hours we were there. That was particularly troubling in a foreign country where we were relying on internet. There were no issues as soon as we visited any cafes, restraints with WiFi? Finally there was a bottle of dish detergent by kitchen sink & a bottle of liquid soap only in the shower (which worked fine) the bathroom sink had no soap, sanitizer or any other cleanser/disenfectant? All in all it might have been a better experience if a few more dollars/euros were spent……. Two other properties we stayed in during our trip were far superior!

Dear Michael,
It was with a feeling of injustice that I read your review… You wrote me once on VRBO letting me know that there was something not working with the Wifi and immediately I sent the instructions for you to verify if something was unplugged. I never heard from you again, therefore I assumed that it was solved since your stay lasted several days.
Another thing, my property follows a plan of pest control and it can happen that once the product is applied, one or two roaches come out of the nest and die in the apartment. It’s not frequent but apparently it happen while you were there. It’s not lack of care, pretty much the opposite otherwise the roach would be alive.
I find very disturbing and unfair that the efforts of my team are exposed as insufficient on the review without having a clear and honest communication from the tourists during their stay.
We do our best and if you see my other reviews, that is a good consideration about our efforts to make people feel good at their stay.
Best regards,
Filipa
The location was amazing in the heart of history and the legend of Portuguese 'Fado' folk music, anyone with a love for social anthropology especially musically orientated will love it.The apartment is small with no real windows except for a small opening on the top of the door and a little kitchen window that opens only a sliver from the top, saying though it did not bother me as being a bit of a bear I like my caves ;-)Everything I needed was there. My only critique is that the sofa could do with either a replacement or a good cover as it has some unsightly marks on it (probably caused by an eating accident by a former renter.)Apart from this, I cannot fault it and believe that this is an excellent location for a single traveller or even a couple.Another good plus is that it is only a 5-minute walk from the seafront and a 10-minute walk to the metro/train/bus services.
Our overall experience was below expectations.
Communication was OK, clear, and attentive. Both owners were kind and sympathetic, and we appreciated their helpful attitude. Cleaning was not completed at the scheduled time, was done superficially and we had to wait outside in the rain. We appreciated being allowed to leave our luggage before check-in. The glass shower door was unstable and felt unsafe. Only two very small pieces of soap were provided for two guests over three nights. The bathroom soap dispenser was broken and Shampoo was not provided. Only one shower towel was for both guests. The shower floor did not drain properly. There was no exterior lighting, so we needed to use our phone flashlights at night. Only one proper wine glass available along with three plastic ones. The espresso machine was dirty and showed spots, possibly from humidity or mold. The sofa was dirty and could benefit from a professional cleaning. The dining table was more of a small shelf attached to the wall and wasn’t very stable. The TV remote control was unreliable. Location is good, but guests arriving by car should note restricted residential area, which can be inconvenient when carrying luggage. Conclusion:Among all the accommodations we stayed in during our four-week trip to Portugal, this was the least satisfactory and, regrettably, the most expensive. The apartment itself would benefit from some attention to cleaning, maintenance, and basic amenities.
Beautiful old town area full of little shops and restaurants at every turn! Fabulous Fado, breathtaking views of the city and the water walking around anywhere. Gorgeous miradouros where you can see most all of Lisbon. The hosts were amazing and it was cozy with everything you could need. Charming and friendly.
