About this property
18th Century Thatched Cottage, Parking & Garden
Summary:
Find an idyllic countryside retreat at this Grade II listed thatched cottage in Beaminster, dating back to the 1700s. With its pink door and green windows, it’s picture perfect. Inside, find a cosy living room with a wood burner and smart TV, a well-equipped kitchen, dining area, sun room & downstairs bathroom. Upstairs are a king and twin bedroom with floor mattress, both with stunning countryside views. Outside, relax in the peaceful garden. Private parking at the rear.
The Space:
The cottage has a cosy garden that feels very private, ideal for those with dogs - we welcome up to 2 (see house rules for details. Additional dogs by special request). You'll find a patio with seating under a pergola. The best part is the electric Ninja BBQ grill, pizza oven and air fryer! Perfect for cooking up meals and dining al fresco. Please note, we cannot offer the woodsmoke function on the Ninja BBQ due to the fire risk of the thatched cottage. The accessories for the wood smoker have been removed.
The twin room has a floor mattress available for a 5th guest, though be aware it is quite a tight squeeze so it's likely best suited to children. It will only be made up for bookings with 5 guests or on special request.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the whole cottage and garden.
The Neighborhood:
This picture-perfect cottage in the historic town of Beaminster offers the perfect mix of countryside charm and coastal adventure. Just a 10-minute walk brings you into the heart of Beaminster, where you’ll find everything from cosy pubs and independent restaurants to a bakery, butcher, bookshop, galleries, and a museum. The town also boasts stylish interiors, clothing shops, supermarkets, and welcoming cafes. Some personal favourites are The Ollerod, an upmarket hotel with a popular bar and restaurant, and The Red Lion pub for good food and a relaxed atmosphere. Brassica has a wonderful selection of local produce. Try Isaac Cider for a family-owned brewing experience.
Enjoy scenic walking trails right from your doorstep, with beautiful woodlands and rolling hills to explore. Just opposite the cottage, go on off-leash dog walks on the 100-acre farm (owned by well-known local Martin Clunes). And at the right time of year, you'll find endless bluebells in bloom in the surrounding forests.
There is so much to see and do within a short drive from the cottage. Less than a 10-minute drive away is the Fox Inn (owned by PJ Harvey's parents), which has excellent food, friendly locals and vibrant music events. Two estates, Mapperton and Parnham Park, are also very close by and offer stunning grounds and eateries.
For beach days, you’re only a 15–20-minute drive from the stunning Jurassic Coast, including Burton Bradstock, West Bay, and Charmouth. Nearby Bridport (10 mins) offers a lively arts and market scene, while Lyme Regis, Dorchester, and Sherborne provide a mix of historic charm, coastal fun, and local culture. The lesser-known Seatown is just over 20 minutes drive away. Here you can enjoy sea views from the Anchor Inn pub and a peaceful beach with dramatic cliffs.
Nestled near the Dorset-Somerset border, this area is perfect for walkers, food lovers, and anyone looking for a relaxed yet well-connected West Country escape.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Dorset, we would recommend bringing a car to make the most of your stay. There is parking for 2 vehicles on the driveway as well as free on street parking.
For those who do come by public transport, trains operated by South Western Railway are available directly from London to Crewkerne. From here, you can get a bus which takes around 20 minutes or a taxi which takes around 15 minutes. It's also a pleasant cycle!
The same bus service also travels to Bridport where you can connect with other bus services traversing the Jurassic Coast.
Other Things to Note:
Grade II listed properties are full of character but often not without their quirks! The staircase is quite steep and narrow, plus the bathroom is downstairs. The cottage therefore might not be suitable for those with young children or mobility limitations. That said, there is a door at the bottom of the stairs and a stair gate at the top.
The wood burner must not be used for fire safety reasons. This is because the chimney needs to be extended to allow safe use in combination with the thatched roof. We are expecting it to be available by autumn 2025.
The BBQ is available for use from April to October.
Interaction with Guests:
We will be available via message, email and phone during your stay. Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
