Very peaceful and cosy cottage in a lovely village deep in the country
Grace Cottage is a very quiet and comfortable 1920s semi-detached cottage near the centre of Sydling St Nicholas, a pretty village surrounded by gorgeous countryside. An attractive enclosed garden runs round the property on all three sides. The ground floor is particularly bright and spacious and the roomy kitchen/diner is well equipped. The stairs leading to the first floor are steep and narrow, so may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. However, there is sleeping accommodation for one on the ground floor, as well as a shower room/toilet. The main bathroom is on the first floor, along with the two bedrooms (one with king-size bed; the other has two singles). Free phone and wifi provided but the mobile signal is unpredictable.
An excellent local pub is within easy walking distance and there is a children's playground nearby.
There is one parking space for the cottage but further spaces are available in the lane about 50m across the green - you might be lucky and see a kingfisher darting up the stream there!
Grace Cottage is much loved by several longstanding visitors, who have been coming here for ten years and more. Sydling is a very friendly village and while the cottage is perfect for those wanting a quiet break in an unspoilt area, there is also plenty to see and do within easy reach.

We really enjoyed our stay at this cosy cottage in a beautiful village. Very quiet and relaxing - perfect place to unwind. Well equipped kitchen and good-sized garden. Can recommend the local pub as well!
Exactly as described, lovely property in a beautiful village. Emily was very helpful before check in and lovely when we arrived and spoke to her. All equipment needed to cook etc and very clean. Lovely touch with the welcome treats. A lovely little break
We have been lucky enough to stay at Grace cottage a number of times over the years. It remains a firm family favourite. The house and garden feel like a home away from home. The area itself is a lovely place to stay, with a little park nearby, a lovely stream to walk along and a friendly pub a short walk away.Plenty to see locally with Dorchester a short drive away.
It was well situated and very well equipped and felt very comfortable and homely. There was a loose board under the 3rd stair up which maybe needs looking at.
Emily provided really helpful information so as we could plan and be assured of local facilities, etc. Welcome gifts were personalised and very thoughtful - as well as tasty! Beautiful village, friendly locals and great dog friendly pub with lots of atmosphere. Fell in love with the window seat in this property! Great walks from the door and perfect base for coast and wider countryside/towns.
Lovely quiet cottage, loved the big kitchen and garden!

Lovely base for some summertime memories
Clean, homely and well located - being central to places such as Weymouth, Yeovil, West Bay, Lulworth Cove and Lyme Regis. Dorchester very close for shopping (no shops in the village itself). Nice walks around, including Cerne Abbas and it’s giant. Thanks for a lovely family holiday.
The weather was superb. The cottage was cosy, light and airy, nicely decorated albeit some furnishings a liitle tired and had a delightful enclosed garden. Sydling is a very pretty, friendly village with challenging walks and an excellent village inn with delicious food.
Absolutely stunning cottage in a quintessential dorset village, all the family (3 adults + 2 children) had the most amazing time, perfect location to take in all the splender that dorset has to offer.
Fantastic for walks to take in all the rolling hills and farm land or short walk to one of the most friendliest pubs iv been into serving incredible food.
Perfect communication from the property owner and description of accommodation.
Would highly recommend
Had a wonderful week in Grace Cottage, the cottage is so well equipped and thought out you have everything you could possibly need to relax and enjoy the week and more besides, lovely secure garden for dogs, even the tiniest tiny dog couldn't find an escape route! The village is so pretty with walks from the door and The Greyhound Inn down the road was an excellent local with wonderful food. Grace Cottage is close to everything a wonderful base, super host ( thankyou for the welcome gifts) and we highly recommend it.

Beautiful, peaceful place
Overall excellent but really needs 2 good sized bathrooms when there are 2 couples staying. Also a mention of low ceiling upstairs that proved a problem for a 6ft 3 inch guest.

Lovely cottage with secure garden in a quiet village .
We only had a short stay in this lovely cottage . The village of Sydling St Nicholas was very English and naturally quiet , therefore , our holiday was just what we wanted . Our two small dogs really enjoyed the freedom of the cottage garden and seemed to be delighted to find a stream just a short distance from the front gate . All in all a very pleasant break in a very lovely area .
The cottage is very spacious for a 3 bed semi and it has a lovely wrap around walled garden. You are in the heart of the village with many walks on your doorstep. The Greyhound pub in the village is excellent and only 2 miles away you have yet more pubs in Cerne Abbas.
The cottsge is fully equipped like a home from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will probably return within the next 12 months.
We had a fantastic Christmas at the cottage. Emily was a tremendous host and excellent at communicating. The cottage was lovely and clean and warm. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. There was also an extensive range of basic food in the kitchen - in fact much more than anticipated! The wifi was good and there was a good range of books and local guides etc.
It was nice to have a safe garden for our dog and also to have the car parking so close by.
The local pub is literally only 2 minutes walk away and has very friendly staff. The area is good for walking and the location is quiet at night.
Overall we would definitely want to re book this cottage in the future.
This cottage is warm and comfortable, with everything you could possibly want provided by the owner. There are wonderful walks straight out of the door, and if you don’t know Sydling, I can really recommend it for its lovely position in the heart of West Dorset, not forgetting its well regarded pub!
We absolutely loved our time at Grace Cottage. The cottage was well appointed and cosy and we quickly felt at home. The spacious yard was a nice spot for outdoor dining and the bench seat in the light-filled dining area was a beautiful place to read and eat. The Greyhound Inn just up the road was a big hit with the family as well. Emily was a wonderful host and we hope to return soon!
Delighted with our Spring week stay in this, the loveliest of cottages. My wife and me plus two Labradors. Well equipped, spotlessly clean, spacious, comfortable, well heated, plenty of hot water, set in a charming, quiet village. The well kept fenced in garden is secure for dogs to run around, a welcome facility. Thank you Emily, and also for excellent communication prior to our visit. Highly recommended venue.
Beautifully placed for exploring Dorset. Very well equipped kitchen. The owner made a real effort to be welcoming and useful and the bottle of wine was much appreciated!
Mum and Dad were born and bred in the immediate area and I spent a very happy childhood with my many cousins in West Dorset. When Dad died, Mum moved to Sydling and spent the later years of her life here in the 1980s and 1990s. I work away from the area but have been holidaying at the cottage for over ten years and was very happy to be able to take it over when the previous owner decided to sell in 2014.
Why they chose this property
I always loved Sydling for its friendliness, the feeling of getting away from it all, and the beautiful rolling hills all around. The cottage has always felt like a home from home to me with its general feeling of calm and cosiness, and I particularly like the way the light pours into the downstairs rooms even in the depths of winter. Many people who have come here, regulars like me or friends passing through, have felt the same and commented on its special atmosphere. Needless to say I was thrilled to be able to buy it when the chance came up in 2014!
What makes this property unique
The cottage offers complete tranquillity, in my experience, day and night. The garden is an enclosed area where small children and dogs can play. The downstairs living space separates naturally into areas where people can chat, read, watch TV, get on the laptop or have a snooze without having to be part of one big group. The central heating is particularly efficient and does a good job in keeping everyone cosy in the winter! There is a wide range of things to do and see in the area, including outdoor activities (walking, bird-watching, beaches) to cultural pursuits, such as visiting country gardens and houses (including those associated with Thomas Hardy novels), as well as local markets and arts centres.
