Tucked away on a private 6-acre estate in Oakenshaw near Durham, our handcrafted Finnish Log Cabin offers a unique countryside escape combining natural Nordic design, entertainment and tranquillity.

Perfect for couples, families or a getaway with friends, the cabin features a private wood-fired hot tub, pool table, retro arcade machine, bar area and huge retractable 83” OLED TV — all surrounded by beautiful countryside and woodland views.

Just 7 miles from Durham City and Bishop Auckland, it’s an entertainment space when you want it to be and a peaceful sanctuary when you simply want to switch off.

Built from slow-grown Nordic pine, the cabin has authentic timber interiors, underfloor heating and floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the surrounding countryside into the space.

The open-plan living area provides plenty of room to relax, dine and spend time together, while the private outdoor patio/conservatory is perfect for morning coffee or relaxing after dark.

The Log Cabin sleeps up to 6 guests across two elevated sleeping lofts and an exceptionally large sofa bed.

• Elevated sleeping loft: King-size bed
• Elevated sleeping loft: King-size bed
• Open-plan lounge: Exceptionally large luxury sofa bed (3.2m x 2m), frequently described by guests as “sleeping on a cloud”

⚠️ Please note:
The two king-size beds are in open, elevated sleeping lofts accessed by ladders, with restricted headroom due to the pitched roof. These quirky loft spaces are a fun and distinctive feature that many guests love, but may not suit guests with limited mobility or those who prefer conventional bedrooms. Photos, floor plans and 360° tours are available to view before booking.

🍳 Cooking Facilities

The cabin has a well-equipped kitchenette for preparing meals, but does not have a conventional full-size oven.

Facilities include:

We provide the wood, kindling and everything you need — simply fill the tub (hot & cold water taps), light the fire and allow it to heat.

The Log Cabin itself is exclusively yours during your stay. Please note that it is located within our private family estate, so you may occasionally see other guests within the wider outdoor areas.

Oakenshaw is a peaceful countryside location with a large nature reserve within a 5 minute walk, surrounded by fields and woodland while remaining within easy reach of Durham City, Bishop Auckland and local attractions.
