La Tana — 1868 Tuscan Farmhouse with Fireplace, Garden and Historic Cave near Lucca
Authentic 1868 Tuscan farmhouse tucked into the Capannori countryside, just 15 minutes by car from Lucca's Renaissance Walls and 40 minutes from Pisa, Florence and the Versilia beaches. A strategic base to discover a different Tuscan destination every day: art cities, seaside, thermal spas, outlets and medieval villages. Perfect for families with children and groups of friends, sleeps up to 7 guests.
Crossing the threshold is like opening a book from 1868: time slows down, the fireplace warms your thoughts. In the morning, breakfast in the garden among olive trees and birdsong. In the evening, barbecues and long dinners at the great wooden table by the fireplace. A rock-carved cave — an ancient pre-war natural refrigerator — preserves the memory of Tuscan farming life.
The house on two floors
La Tana spans two floors and sleeps up to 7 guests, with a layout designed for families and groups of friends.
GROUND FLOOR. The large living area is the beating heart of the house: one open space blending kitchen, dining zone and relaxation corner in authentic Tuscan farmhouse style. The kitchenette is fully equipped with gas cooktop, oven, microwave and a generous marble sink. A large solid-wood dining table flanked by two long benches comfortably seats 8 or more for convivial dinners. In one corner, a charming rocking chair invites to read at the slow rhythm of the house. The imposing stone fireplace is the absolute protagonist of autumn and winter days. Smart TV with satellite connection. The ground floor also hosts the main bathroom, spacious, with a comfortable walk-in shower cabin.
FIRST FLOOR — Sleeping area with 4 bedrooms.
Double bedroom 1: standard double bed
Double bedroom 2: double bed + extra single bed (ideal for a family with a child)
Single room A: single bed, connected to Single room B
Single room B: single bed. IMPORTANT: this room is a pass-through both to reach the upstairs bathroom and to access the other single room. Recommended for children or more flexible group members.
The first floor also hosts the second bathroom, more intimate, with a curtain shower (functional but less spacious than the one on the ground floor).
Outdoor space — Garden, cave and stream
A wide, exclusively private outdoor area wraps around the house: the garden is the place where you truly slow down, surrounded by the scent of the Tuscan countryside, olive trees and a silence that belongs to another era. A large outdoor dining table and the barbecue (with free firewood included) are waiting on summer evenings for long dinners under the stars.
In one corner of the garden hides the true heart of this place: the rock-carved cave, called "la Tana", and it is from this very cave that the whole house takes its name. Before World War II, Tuscan farmers used it as a natural refrigerator to store wine, olive oil and other supplies. Today it is a small treasure to explore and photograph, a living witness of the rural memory of this land.
Following small trails that open up along the edges of the property, you reach a small stream whose flowing water, running between the stones, cradles you with its soothing sound. The perfect spot for a silent pause or an early-morning meditation.
Natural cooling thanks to the thick original 1868 stone walls
Autonomous heating from November 1 to April 15 (metered, billed at checkout)
Digital Detox and Eco-friendly stay
The house has no Wi-Fi, in line with the slow spirit of the place: an 1868 farmhouse where time slows down, conversations come back to the center and evenings belong to the fireplace rather than to screens. Italian 4G/5G coverage in the area is limited; guests who need to stay connected can do so via personal hotspot where signal is available.
Capannori is an Italian pioneer in door-to-door waste sorting. Clear translated instructions are available inside the house to handle recycling correctly. Non-compliance results in a 100 euros fee imposed by the Municipality.
Access and check-in
100% self check-in, available from 4:00 PM on the first day of your booking. In the days before your arrival you will receive the key box code, written step-by-step instructions and photos of the access and of the house to help you find your way easily.
The access lane to the property is not very wide and is not suitable for very low cars. No restricted traffic zones, no additional parking fees. Being an ancient country farmhouse, the building shares a border with another property and the front courtyard is separated by a roll-down windbreak that can be lowered whenever needed.
Propertify — The team that welcomes you
Propertify is a professional property management team based in Lucca, specialized in historic homes and quality holiday rentals. We reply via chat every day from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM in Italian, English and German, with average response times within minutes.
A very special welcome — on request. If you prefer a personal welcome on arrival instead of the self check-in, we have something truly special in store for you. You will not be greeted by an anonymous assistant, but by the owner himself: a wonderfully charming gentleman, around 80 years old, who grew up in this countryside and is full of stories to tell. The meeting point is the McDonald's right off the Lucca motorway exit; from there, he will personally guide you by car to the house, sharing the story of the 1868 farmhouse and the secrets of the garden cave. Just message us a few days in advance through the chat.
