About this property
Foxlea Cottage – Peaceful Detached Retreat near Chester
Perfectly positioned in the picturesque village of Saughall, Foxlea Cottage offers the best of both worlds: peaceful village charm combined with quick and easy access to Chester city centre, just five minutes away by car.
Tucked away in a quiet spot, the cottage sits only a short stroll from the local pub and tea room, with a village shop, pharmacy, Chinese takeaway, hairdresser, and a well-kept park with a modern children’s play area all within easy walking distance. Everything you need for a relaxed stay is close at hand, without the bustle of city life.
From the doorstep, guests can enjoy scenic countryside walks through the Shotwick Park Estate, Bluebell Woods, and along footpaths leading up to an ancient castle site with wide-reaching views towards the Welsh hills. It’s an ideal location for walkers, cyclists, and anyone who enjoys being outdoors.
Inside, the cottage is light-filled and welcoming. The open-plan ground floor brings together a stylish kitchen, dining space, and lounge, making it easy to cook, relax, and spend time together. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering, with full-size appliances and a breakfast bar beneath a skylight. The lounge features a fireplace, comfortable seating, a large TV with Sky package, and super-fast fibre broadband — equally suited to quiet evenings in or catching up on work if needed. A double sofa bed provides flexible additional sleeping accommodation.
Upstairs, above the garage, the master bedroom offers a comfortable double bed and a calm, private sleeping space. The en-suite bathroom includes a powerful shower. There is also an under-eaves area with a single floor mattress, which children often find an exciting and cosy place to sleep. For longer stays, this space is also very useful for storing suitcases and larger items. Please note that the bathroom is accessed via the bedroom.
Foxlea Cottage sleeps up to five guests, but it is best suited to couples, families, or small groups who are comfortable sharing space. Full occupancy works particularly well for short breaks or family stays, while smaller groups may find the layout more comfortable for longer visits.
Outside, guests can enjoy a small patio area, with a washing line available and a small table and chairs provided when weather allows. A bench by the front door overlooks the small garden and is a favourite spot for a quiet sit with a coffee or a book.
Conveniently located on Chester’s most accessible side and along a major bus route, the cottage is ideally placed for visiting many of the area’s main attractions. Chester Racecourse, Chester Zoo, Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, and Blue Planet Aquarium are all within around 15 minutes’ drive. Families may also enjoy nearby favourites such as The Ice Cream Farm, Crocky Trail, and Delamere Forest’s Go Ape.
Golfers and cyclists are well catered for, with a nearby driving range, 9-hole course, and access to national cycle routes. Whether you’re planning a relaxed break, a family getaway, or a base for exploring Cheshire and North Wales, Foxlea Cottage offers a comfortable, well-located place to return to at the end of the day.
Getting around:
The cottage is exceptionally well connected by public transport. A bus stop is located directly outside the property, with frequent services into Chester throughout the day (approximately every 15 minutes during daytime hours and around every 30 minutes at weekends). Buses run from early morning until around 11pm, making it easy to explore the city and surrounding areas without a car.

About the host
Your host
We’re experienced hosts who genuinely care about providing comfortable, well-maintained homes for people to enjoy.
Alongside holiday accommodation, we also manage domestic lettings, and we take real satisfaction in creating spaces where people feel settled, relaxed, and well cared for.
Foxlea Cottage is particularly special to us because we built it ourselves, by hand, with the intention of creating a welcoming place for guests to enjoy our village, the surrounding countryside, and nearby Chester.
A great deal of time, care, and effort went into its design and finish, and that attention to detail continues in how we look after the cottage today.
We respect our guests’ privacy, but we’re always available if help is needed, and we aim to make every stay straightforward, comfortable, and enjoyable.

Why they chose this property
I was born and brought up in this area, so Saughall has always felt like home to me. It’s a village that offers a genuine sense of community, while still being incredibly convenient for everyday life and for visiting places of interest.
What I’ve always loved about the area is the balance it offers. It’s peaceful and green, with countryside walks, open spaces, and a relaxed pace of life, yet Chester is only minutes away. You can enjoy village life one moment and be in the city the next, whether for shopping, restaurants, history, or events.
Over the years, I’ve seen how much visitors enjoy staying here. Guests often comment on how quiet and friendly the village feels, how easy it is to get around, and how surprised they are by how much there is to see and do nearby. It’s a lovely area to visit, whether you’re coming for a short break, a family trip, or simply to relax and unwind.
Living here has always made sense to me, and sharing the area with guests through Foxlea Cottage has been a pleasure.
