About this property
Castello di Caprarica
A fascinating, luxurious castle with an abundance of space inside, extensive grounds and a fabulous pool.
The early 16th-century Castello di Caprarica combines historical charm, architectural riches and contemporary comforts. Perfectly proportioned for large groups, blessed with discreet daily service, within easy walking distance of the charming centre of Tricase, and just a short drive from the Adriatic coast of the Salento, Il Castello di Caprarica has a great deal to offer.
Inside: accommodation at Castello di Caprarica is laid out over the castle itself and two guesthouses accessed from the pool gardens.
The main entrance to the castle takes one into an impressive hallway. At the bottom of a few steps, one has three options: straight on, left or right. Straight on leads out into the large, walled courtyard garden. A left turn, meanwhile, takes one to a series of well-furnished reception rooms, each of which has its own large glass doors accessing the courtyard garden. Two have large decorative fireplaces, while the last is located in the oldest part of the castle, once home to a chapel.
Back in the hallway and heading right, one comes to a grand dining room, which in turn leads to yet another living area and a TV room. Off the TV room is a guest bathroom and the large, superbly equipped kitchen. Glass doors lead out from the kitchen to into the internal courtyard and the main al fresco dining area.
A door from the kitchen takes one into a long corridor, off which is a laundry room and a double-twin bedroom with en-suite shower room. At the end of this corridor is an indoor-outdoor hallway connecting the courtyard garden to the main gardens and the pool area. Also accessed from this hall is the second of the main house's bedrooms, a double with en-suite shower room.
Back in the TV room next to the kitchen, a staircase leads to the first floor and the main sleeping quarters, comprising:
• a twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom
• a spacious double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with separate shower and tub
• the main bedroom with walk-in wardrobe, and a voluminous bathroom with separate shower and tub.
All three of these bedrooms look out into the courtyard garden.
The first guesthouse offers charming, beautifully furnished accommodation located just a short walk across the pool garden from the castle. It comprises a comfortable open-plan living and dining area with kitchenette, and four spacious bedrooms: two doubles and two double-twins, each with its own en-suite shower room.
The second guesthouse, also accessed from the pool garden, has two double-twin bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room, the other with an adjacent shower room.
Outside: Il Castello di Caprarica is blessed with extensive grounds essentially divided into two parts. The first is the large courtyard garden, home to a long shaded loggia furnished with sofas, easy chairs and a dining table overlooking a lawned quad. Most of the ground floor rooms open out onto this area, including the kitchen.
The main garden and pool area are accessed from a corridor off the kitchen. Here there is a wide expanse of lawn, studded with a variety of Mediterranean trees. There is plenty of space for fun and games, not least in the large pool, which is served by a pool house offering a shaded sitting and dining area, a kitchenette, and a changing room with shower and WC. A short walk across the lawns takes one to the guesthouse, which has its own furnished terraces.
Castello di Caprarica is located close to one of Tricase’s churches, and at times the church bells can be heard from the villa.
