About this property

The Old Storehouse

Welcome to The Old Storehouse – a charming countryside retreat, ideal for families or small groups. Tucked away in a quiet hamlet that was once a thriving mining community, the house offers a unique blend of old and new – where traditional character meets modern comfort. It's a peaceful, off-the-beaten-track retreat where guests can truly unwind and soak in the tranquillity of the surrounding countryside. The Old Storehouse offers three comfortable bedrooms (one king, one double, and one twin), a fully equipped kitchen (including a double Air Fryer), a living room, and a separate dining area for relaxed meals and gatherings.

For a bit of fun during your stay, enjoy a game of pool on the full-size pool table – perfect for entertaining evenings in.

Outside, you’ll find a peaceful garden with lovely countryside views – ideal for morning coffee or unwinding after a day out. Parking is available on the driveway at the front or along the quiet lane beside the property.

Dating back to around 1899, this charming property was once the home of the store manager who served the bustling pit village colliery, before the village itself was demolished in the 1970s. Although the original store was lost to a fire, the adjoining house survived and has since been lovingly restored by its current owners. Many original features have been carefully preserved, breathing new life into this historic home.

Despite its secluded feel, the property is just a short drive from local pubs, restaurants, and supermarkets, making it a convenient base. Whether you’re a walker, a history enthusiast, or simply in search of a quiet getaway with a nostalgic touch, this beautifully restored home offers a memorable and meaningful stay.

There is a high chair and travel cot available at the property. Both of these can be requested at the time of booking. Please note that there is no bedding for the cot.

Beautiful house in peaceful setting

Lovely spacious house with countryside views all round in a very peaceful location. Everything you need and very clean. Only downside was parking - nowhere easy to turn at the end of a narrow lane. Small problem with a loose door handle quickly resolved. Owners difficult to contact as the number for them didn't seem to work. Had to go through the agent instead.

Wonderful house to stay in for a few nights.

We chose the Old Store house as our daughter was getting married nearby and we wanted somewhere to chill before and after with our other daughter and grandkids. The house was amazingly homely and everything you needed it to be. We will definitely recommend to friends and family. Thankyou for having us.

Great base for exploring the area

Accurate property description and photos. Quiet roads - easy to turn into and out of Netherton Colliery and the 'main road' isn't close enough for noise to be an issue indeed, the location is exceptionally quiet for somewhere with a town and village nearby. Watching swifts swooping over the field of ripening wheat at the rear watching horses and rabbits in the field at the front. Plenty of well-used walking routes on the doorstep. Within easy reach of beautiful beaches, several National Trust/English Heritage properties, the newly reopened Northumberland Line train route into Newcastle, etc. The towel in the kitchen was adequate for drying hands but it would be helpful to have at least one tea towel - we were glad we brought one. The dishcloth was a J-cloth cut in half (or smaller?) - only just about adequate but understandable because presumably they're thrown away after each stay. On one warm weekday with the bedroom (at the front) window open, was disturbed by aircraft taking off around 05:50 from Newcastle Airport - the wind direction probably didn't help and it wasn't an issue for the ensuite double bedroom (at the rear). Track beyond the property (used to turn around) is very rough in one place - not sure if that's a local authority issue or if it's a private road...
