About this property
Edgerton coach house, Detached cottage in town, Spacious rustic charm
The coach house stands at the back of one of the 'Villas of Edgerton' in a conservation area. On the A629, 1 mile from town centre & railway station, 2 miles from M62, 1 mile from Huddersfield Hospital. Set back from the road, it is surprisingly quiet. Original features quirkily preserved. Cook and dine in the coach room, lounge in the stable, sleep and shower in the hay loft. Work from home or relax in its simply furnished, well equipped, charming environment. Note: NOT suitable for children.
The space The coach house is a stone-built detached outbuilding for the main house, both built in 1864.
The stable space is now a SITTING-ROOM, with flagstones, cobbles and troughs re-laid over a new solid base floor. The display units are built into the old 'chutes' for the hay falling from the loft to the horse-mangers. The wood-panelling was reproduced from the original. The original Jacob's ladder formerly used to access the loft remains in place but, obviously, is no longer in use.
The coach room has been turned into a DINING KITCHEN, with original flagstones similarly re-laid. The original chimney stack has gone, but the chimney breast remains a distinctive feature.
The height of the room allowed for a gallery to be created at the top of the new stairs, where a WORKSPACE has been set up, overlooking the lower level.
2 more steps lead to the DOUBLE BEDROOM on one side, with the original hay loft round window. The double doors formerly used to load the hay from the courtyard have been replaced with glazed ones opening to a Juliet balcony.
On the other side is the BATHROOM, which can also be accessed direct from the bedroom without any steps. It gets plenty of natural light from 2 rooflights, and offers a shower-bath, washbasin and toilet. The top of the hay-chutes form interesting stone 'niches'.
Because of the layout, building materials, and some features, the coach house is NOT suitable for infants or children.
Guest access The coach house is entirely independent for the use of guests. The courtyard is shared with the owners and can be used to sit or eat al fresco.
Other things to note The Ring doorbell on the back door of our own house faces the courtyard. Its camera is meant to record movement outside for security purposes and reaches as far as the front door of the coach house.

Absolutely loved my stay at the Coach house. MC was very accommodating in every way and was always quick to respond if I needed anything. The location was great with a short 15 minute walk into Huddersfield town centre and the station. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in for my time in Huddersfield. 5* all round :)
