About the host
Hosted by Dougal & Zoe
We are a UK/New Zealand family who love to travel. We try always to think, “what would we most enjoy and what would make our lives easier if we were staying here?” and then do our best to make that happen. The best times are often spent outdoors but you can’t always control the weather so we try to include plenty of things to do on a rainy day. We think it’s the little touches that make a difference and the thought that we’ve created a space that might bring joy to others makes us happy. We’re new to Vrbo (and renting in general) - we can’t wait to share this beautiful house and location with guests but we want to get it right. If you encounter anything that you think could be improved, please let us know. I guarantee that if we can change it, we will!
Why they chose this property
The Lot region (and Quercy in particular) is a bit of a hidden gem - sunnier and quieter than the neighbouring Dordogne but no less pretty. It’s popular with Dutch (and, perhaps surprisingly, Australian) visitors but remains authentically French: relaxed, outdoorsy and firmly focused on the good things in life. It offers all the ingredients for a perfect holiday, whether that’s sauntering through the markets in medieval hilltop villages, dashing through the countryside on bikes and in kayaks, or slowing things right back with a glass or two of wine and some quiet time with friends and family.
What makes this property unique
Cambou Haut is a classic Quercy property - built from local limestone and with a pigeonnier (pigeon-tower) on top. We find the old stone walls and wooden beams to be incredibly calming: warming and waking with the rising sun and radiating a comforting ageless charm. Against this backdrop are a wide range of facilities: we recognise that leisure can take many forms. For some it’s relaxing by the pool, but for others, it’s all about activities and having things to do. The Barn at Cambou Haut caters equally to both camps.
