The East and West Hill funicular lifts make it easy to reach clifftop viewpoints, Hastings Castle and Smugglers’ Adventure, while Hastings Country Park offers rewarding coastal walks with sea views. For a slower afternoon, Alexandra Park provides a spacious Victorian green retreat.

• Bodiam Castle (National Trust): approximately 25–26 minutes by car (around 13 miles); bus 349 from Hastings station also serves the route Monday to Saturday
