Ruthin itself sits on a hilltop, with a variety of attractive half-timbered buildings and interesting shops, as well as Ruthin Gaol, Ruthin Craft Centre and Nant Clwyd House (the oldest timber frame in Wales). Llangollen is to the south, via the breathtaking Horseshoe Pass, Lake Brenig, Moel Famau Country Park and Clocaenog Forest, or head to the Snowdonia National Park, the beautiful coastline and historic Chester.
