The Neighborhood:

Nenthead is one of the highest villages in England and has a rich mining history. Many mines still remain which are open to the public and waiting to be discovered. The village was also the first to have electric street lighting due to the excess power created by the mining industry. This is a fantastic base for those looking to explore the area as the village has a pub, restaurant, shop/Post Office, children’s play area and a church set in an elevated position. There are a number of attractions available in the nearby area including taking a ride on one of the lovingly-restored steam and diesel engines through the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne valley on the South Tynedale Railway. The River Tyne is also noted as one of the finest salmon rivers in England and day-ticket fishing is available locally. With the entire North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on your doorstep you will need to return again and again to the area to explore everything there is on offer.
