About this property
Creekside Cottage - Your Vacation Home Winter And Summer, For Beach Or Skiing
Beautiful creek location on Park Head Creek in the village of Shallow Lake! Drive ten minutes to Sauble Beach, two minutes to Sawmill cross country ski trails, 400 meters to snowmobile and hiking trails and Shallow Lake. Only ten minutes from Owen Sound! This cute brick home was completely renovated in 2017 with your comfort in mind. Three bedrooms offer space for six people, a full bathroom with washer/dryer and a powder room ensure your comfort, and a well equipped kitchen allows you to easily prepare and share meals together. Enjoy a campfire outside beside the creek or enjoy a show on the Smart TV inside. Control the indoor temperature with the brand new furnace and AC system. Bring your hammock to read outside in the trees, or relax on the comfy couch indoors. The beds all have new high-end mattresses with excellent quality sheets, pillows, duvets and duvet covers. While the bedrooms are small, we have supplied more than enough hooks for your clothes. Experienced hosts Rob and Bettie have two years of hosting experience with excellent reviews.

Notes on A/C, internet, noise, neighbours, etc
The house has high speed steady internet. We have tested it numerous times with our kids and had our music accounts, email, netflix, online searches and my son's game site open all at once. The 5G speed of this Eastlink service stood up well and the search times were close to the service I have at home in Hamilton. In terms of reliability, we chose Eastlink because their track record was good, and we have not had any "outages". The air conditioning is a brand new central air system (we put in a new furnace and AC system when we renovated this summer). I have not yet tested it because it is winter, but the unit is more than adequate for the house size. We have had some time to test the furnace system and it heats the house very well. We also insulated the entire house to meet new energy incentive standards and it is extremely efficient, so the units don't actually run nearly as much as mine at home. We also put in brand new windows for the same reason. In terms of noise, Highway 6 to Sauble Beach is across the creek about a city block or two away, and on a Friday night you do hear some of the car traffic, it is a "one lane each way" paved road through town, so it is nothing like hearing a 400 series highway. Because it is a village, there are two houses on the other side of the road from the house (not opposite but on each side). The neighbour to the one side is on the other side of the creek, and the neighbour on the other side is closest; their house is about 20 feet away. We have gotten to know them well and they are a stable and quiet family. The creek curls around the house (beside and behind), so the neighbours behind are on the other side of the creek. You do hear the quiet babbling of the creek at night.

About the host
Hosted by Bettie VanGils Kloet

I (Bettie) am originally from this area and my husband Rob and I are really happy to be back in the beautiful vacation area of Grey Highlands. We love to cross country ski, which is why we chose this location only two minutes from Sawmill- one of the best groomed cross country ski tracks in Ontario! We own and host several short term furnished rentals in Hamilton area as well, and love the experience of interacting with our guests through the booking process. We have three adult children and one cat. We also love to bicycle, and we love cycling the roads in this area.
Why they chose this property
We chose this house because of the property. The creek is so peaceful, and sitting by the fire at night listening to the little rapids settles the soul like nothing else. We fell in love with the yellow Shallow Lake brick as well. The community of Shallow Lake is super friendly, and the general store owner Leanne keeps the store stocked with all those essentials you may have forgotten.
What makes this property unique
The shady trees, the peaceful stream, the birds, and the light movement through the house all provide interest. The proximity to Sauble Beach allows you to enjoy a busy day at the beach but then offers a quiet and shady place to relax in a beautiful home. The two minute drive to Sawmill Nordic Center means you can enjoy skiing several times a day!
