Situated in the grounds of Chateau Mirabel, this 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house with air conditioning and fibre broadband has been tastefully modernised to provide a high level of comfort for up to 6 guests.

In the fully fitted kitchen (oven, ceramic hob, extractor, dishwasher, fridge freezer), guests will find a useful range of additional appliances for their use, such as Nutribullet, Microwave, Nespresso Machine and a range of crockery and table settings to create memorable meals.

In the Sitting Room, as well as comfortable furnishings and Smart television, DVD etc. guests will find a range of books, guides to the local area, puzzles and games.

Each bedroom has been designed with the comfort of guests in mind. From the Superking beds with luxurious handcrafted mattresses (100% organic pocket spring wool) and quality bed linens to the air conditioning and mix of modern and antique furnishings.

Each bathroom is equipped with a heated towel rail, VMC (ventilation), sockets by the sink and hairdryer. All towels are provided (including additional towels for the pool area).

Outside, as well as its own terrace, the house has exclusive use of its own outdoor kitchen with barbecue and pizza oven.

Guests of both gites (Petite Mirabel and Latour) share access to the petanque court, table tennis and large salt water swimming pool.

There is ample free parking outside the property, with an electric vehicle charging point.

There is one other gite in the grounds (Latour - see separate listing) which gives families and larger groups the option to rent both at the same time. (Maximum of ten guests on site).

The house is situated within the grounds of the historic Chateau Mirabel with its 7 hectares of parkland and gardens, which guests are welcome to enjoy and explore. The grounds lead directly onto the historic Voie Romaine footpath, popular with cyclists and ramblers, which also provides a scenic walk directly into the town of Puylaurens.

The house is situated 2km from the historic town of Puylaurens, a village etape and birthplace of Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic. As well as its weekly market, the town has all the amenities you would expect (2 supermarkets, pharmacy, boulangeries, delicatessen, greengrocer, butcher, tabac, cafes and restaurants etc.).

There is a popular bus route that leaves from the centre of the town to Toulouse, multiple times during the day, should you wish to leave your car to explore this popular city.

As well as the popular tourist destinations of Toulouse, Albi, Carcassonne and Castelnaudary, there are so many towns and villages nearby that are well worth a visit all within 30 minutes by car.

As well as its famous Rugby Club, Castres is blessed with beautiful squares, elegant buildings and a taste of authentic France, from the covered market to the myriad of brocantes and cafes.

Alternatively, the hilltop village of Lautrec is recognised as one of the one beautiful villages in France and you will enjoy exploring its cobbled winding streets and learning about its famous pink garlic.

Not far away in unspoilt Soreze, at the foot of the Black Mountains, you will find not one but two fascinating museums - the Dom Robert Museum is housed in the former military school and along with Museum of Glass, is well worth a visit.

Head north to the historic town of Lavaur and you will find beautiful streets and stunning views, along with the Museum of the Pays de Cocagne, where many years ago, artefacts from Chateau Mirabel were donated, to preserve them for future generations.

The famous bastide market town of Revel is nearby and its Saturday market is renowned (search out the local artisan producers in the covered area of the market).

Should guests decide that they would like a night off from cooking, we work with a Private Chef from Toulouse, who can create a memorable meal for you in your gite. (As he is extremely popular, this will need to be booked well in advance).

About the host

Hosted by Sarah Hughes

Host profile image
Dedicated to the restoration of Chateau Mirabel and its grounds and sharing its remarkable history and beauty with visitors, guests and the wider world through my Substack Blog.

All whilst living (blissfully) in France, indulging my passion for antiques, interior design, cooking and gardening.

Why they chose this property

I spent a year travelling around France looking for the right property and had almost given up hope until I stumbled across Mirabel and this historic region. Often described as the French Tuscany, this beautiful landscape is hypnotic.

As I knew I wanted to host guests, it was important to find a property on the edge of a vibrant town with all amenities, with good road and airport links, without compromising on beautiful countryside and views. Here, we are lucky to have a wealth of well-known and not so well known tourist destinations on our doorstep.

What makes this property unique

Before starting the renovation process, I spent a lot of time thinking about what we wanted to achieve.
There had to be an emphasis on guest comfort.
We could have squeezed more beds in - but made a deliberate decision not to. We could have chosen cheaper mattresses or not installed air conditioning in every bedroom. But we wanted to create a guest experience with integrity and to create a sustainable business where guests would want to return.
And from an aesthetic perspective, I wanted to combine the comfort and design led interiors of a boutique hotel with the convenience and relaxation of a self-catering property - in essence a bou-gite. Where modern comforts combine with authenticity and carefully curated interiors.

Also, having two properties, I wanted to ensure that each property had its own character, and identity. Every bathroom, bedroom and outdoor space is different in each of the properties and hopefully their unique features will appeal to guests for different reasons.
