Wonderful iconic cottage on the ocean. Very comfortable bedrooms and living room and has a beautiful and well stocked kitchen. The Bowe's (owners) are super hospitable and thoughtful. We look forward to returning!
Our family just wrapped up our 15th visit to this amazing home and we had a wonderful week! Our hosts are always amazing and we enjoyed the beautiful new kitchen! It’s a peaceful, comfortable and relaxing home that we’ve made so many happy memories in over the years and this year was no exception!
We brought some friends and family. During our stay we had fog, rain, sunshine and ALL was wonderful. We fished, kayaked, walked, visited with neighbors, shopped and ate fantastic food. Bottom line, it could not have been more perfect.
We love staying here year after year. The location right on the ocean cannot be beat. We love the sunrises and the changing tides. The porch is the perfect spot for reading and watching the lobster boats pass by.
Great old summer home with spectacular views of Stage Harbor and Goat Island Light. We enjoyed the changing tide and fog and birds. The house is comfy and we had everything we needed for a wonderful week.
Such a wonderful, beautiful, historic home. It was perfect for our family. One of our favorite parts was watching the tide come in and out from all the windows on the east side of the house. We loved walking out in the low tide and taking the kayaks, paddle board and row boat out during high tide. The house had everything we needed and the host was super helpful. What a spectacular place. We'd love to come back!
We had an amazing time at Wawah South Cottage! It was the perfect home away from home with an amazing view and unique experiences right outside the door including the tidal flats (a big hit with our 2 year old) and the kayaking. Communication was great and the hosts even coordinated with our baby rental equipment so that everything went super smoothly. Great location with many options for things to do, both walking distance and quick drives. Thank you for everything!
The Yellow house was really a special place! The location and views were amazing! We loved being in Cape Porpoise this time of year to see the foliage! The house was furnished very nicely and was well equipped! The upstairs baths were a bit snug but we understand the owners are updating this winter! The restaurants and shops in the Cape Porpoise area/ Kennebunkport are delightful! We truly enjoyed our long weekend get away!
We had such a wonderful vacation. The house was perfect and had everything we needed. The beds were all comfy and my Mom loved the "child's room" and wanted to bring it home!
We were so lucky to have beautiful weather the entire time. Being able to open all the windows and have the ocean breeze come through felt great!
At night seeing the moon reflect off the water was absolutely breathtaking. The sunrises just have to be seen!
Walking out during low tide was such a great experience for us all. We saw lots of crabs, jellyfish, and shrimp. The kids walked all the way to the lighthouse. During high tide we saw a seal which was really cool.
The meals we had from the local restaurants can only be described as absofreakinglutely amazing! The seafood was just delicious. The lobster bisque and lobster roll from Allison's was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The she-crab soup from the Maine Diner was so delicious. The food from the Chowder House and Clam Shack were amazing as well. I will miss that definitely!
My only complaint about this vacation is that we only booked 1 week. I definitely recommend renting this house if you want an absolutely relaxing and memorable vacation!
This property allowed for a wonderful family vacation with lots to do for the mix of ages. The hosts were friendly. The older home was super clean allowing its history to shine through. The kitchen had plenty of equipment to make meal prep and service easy. We loved our stay.
Loved our stay in beautiful house Especially enjoyed the short walk to stores/restaurants and of course the opportunity to walk on the sand flats when the tide went out. Only suggestion would be to maybe update mattresses as a few were a bit hard. But we would definitely return.
Beautiful home, stunning waterfront location. Easy walk to local market and restaurants, stunning sunrises and sunsets. Comfortable and welcoming home, well-appointed kitchen. We can’t wait to go back.
This place is absolutely exceptional. We never felt the need to leave once in our four days at the house....the wraparound deck always has both sun and shade from dusk til dawn. The flats are walkable (and completely magical, an incomparable foot massage!) at low tide and swimmable/kayakable (off the dock) at high tide (and 2 hours before/after, give or take). The house is a 3 minute drive, 15 minute walk from the center of Cape Porpoise, and 7-8 minutes drive from Kennebunkport....so if you need things, everything is nearby. Candida and family were great hosts and were next door/reachable should you need them.
We had an amazing time staying here. The place was immaculate and the views were incredible. We enjoyed the changing tides and took advantage by kayaking and paddle boarding at high tide and explored the islands at low tide. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!
Wahwa South was perfect for our family of
Seven. Comfortably appointed. Loved the use of kayaks, binoculars & outdoor grill.
Sunrises the absolute best, enjoyed exploring the flats. Special spot on the coast of Maine. Didn’t want to leave!
Wahwa is wonderful. The house itself is as clean as it is comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed. The views from the porch, lawn, and living room and bedrooms are stunning. The natural rhythm of weather and tides encourages everyone to relax and engage the day as it comes. There are plenty of activities for all levels of skill and energy. Lie on the porch with a good book, walk the sand flats, swim, kayak in the harbor or head into the ocean. Or do all of the above in a day, rinse and repeat. Not into water activities- bikes and a gentle on the knees clay tennis court are available. Hungry and don’t feel like cooking ? You can walk to several good restaurants and deli food. Willing to cook? Check out Langsford Rd Fishhouse for fresh seafood. Watch the sunset as you barbecue. Put your feet up and see the moon upon the water. Sleep well in comfortable beds. Enjoy perfection.
Wahwa did not disappoint again! Such a special place to our family, as we vacationed here as children and now can enjoy with our children. We had such fun on the kayaks at high tide and exploring the flats and islands at low tide. The weather was perfect-only a quick thunderstorm Saturday afternoon, but then a beautiful rainbow appeared shortly thereafter. Louise, next door at Wahwa North, was fabulous! Friendly, helpful and so accommodating. We love our time at Wahwa!
My family spent a memorable week at Wahwa Cottage in early June. The cottage is spacious, very clean, and fully stocked with the essentials, like towels, linens, kitchenware, soaps, toilet paper, etc., which was much appreciated. The home feels modern yet maintains charming elements of its storied past, like sinks in each of the bedrooms and antique furniture throughout the home. Our favorite part was definitely the breathtaking views, which can be seen from very window, and the porch, which was a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the beauty of the islands and lighthouse of Cape Porpoise. We enjoyed exploring the sand flats at low tide and searching for seashells, and several of us enjoyed taking out the two kayaks that are available for use. The location of the home is ideal, as it's only about a 5 to 10 minute drive to downtown Kennebunkport and within walking distance to many great restaurants, including the Chowder House at the pier. It was a wonderful family vacation and we hope to return one day!

About the host
Hosted by Charley Bowe
My Great Grandfather Herbert Allen built the North House in 1898. His father Frank Allen built South House in 1900. Father and son were partners in the Oriental Tea Company out of Boston. The large brass kettle in Government Center Plaza in front of the Starbucks was originally hanging in front of the Oriental Tea Company on India Street.
Why they chose this property
Cape Porpoise is a classic Vacationland location. Houses are spread out and private. There are no hotels or multi-unit buildings nearby. Located in a gentrified fishing community with access to boating, golfing, cycling fit for a president
What makes this property unique
The house is part of an estate built over 125 years ago. Property includes a twin house, barn, kiosk and tennis court. Located on a private drive but close enough to some of the best restaurants in Maine
