About this property
YEAR-ROUND Private, Cozy Lakeside Cabin. Beautiful Views, 2 Boats, Kayak & Canoe
Quintessential red cabin nestled among the trees on 5 acres of property on clear Lookout Lake - perfect to get away, relax and appreciate being up north year-round. Paddle boat, fishing boat (no motor), canoe/paddles and kayak/paddle are included in your stay during the summer months! Just 15 minutes from the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Biking trails!
There is no cleaner for the cabin, which saves you on cleaning fees and allows you to check-out later than usual! Your ability to "leave it as you found it" is fundamental to maintaining lower cost and a healthy space for the next folks looking to enjoy a peaceful time at the cabin. This includes cleaning the cabin before you check-out and taking care of any laundry (as applicable). A check-out checklist and cleaning supplies are provided for your use.
The cabin has two bedrooms and one bathroom. There is both air conditioning and heat to keep you comfortable no matter the temperature outside. The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, electric stove, small appliances (microwave, toaster, crock pot etc), pots/pans, dishes and utensils. Guests have access to the entire property: the cabin, a shed with yard games/lawn chairs etc, and a carport. There are 5 acres of property to explore, a long driveway and 2 mile dirt road for peaceful walks, a private boat landing and dock as well.
As noted, there is no cleaner for this cabin. While bed linens as well as bath, kitchen and a couple beach towels are available for guests' use, guests may also bring their own. Please note that bath towels are not allowed outside of the cabin. If you use the provided linens and/or towels, we ask that you wash and dry them, return towels to where you found them and re-make the beds. If you use your own linens and/or towels, you can just fold and store the provided linens/towels in the marked bins under the bed during your stay and return/re-make the bed before checking out.
For your enjoyment, the cabin has a variety of card/board games, books and puzzles, a smart TV and DVD player, with a wide selection of DVDs, and is set-up with WiFi internet (which is strong enough should you need to work from the cabin during your stay). There a washer and dryer within the cabin for your use (detergent and dryer sheets provided) - excellent for washing and drying swim suits and beach towels after a day out on/in the lake!
If you're looking for fun, food and entertainment outside of the cabin, the Deerwood, Ironton and Crosby areas are just a quick 10 minute drive away, Emily is 20 minutes and Brainerd is only about 25 minutes away. You can find great restaurants, bars and breweries, unique shops and antique stores as well as recreational activities such as golf (including Cuyuna Hills Country Club and Ruttgers Resort), tennis, biking (Cuyuna Mountain Bike Trails are especially close), 4-wheeling and kayaking/canoeing/biking/snowshoeing rentals. The area has many festivals, events and activities throughout the year! There are numerous things to do in the spring, fall and winter as well - hiking, fishing, corn mazes, snowmobiling, fat tire biking and snowshoeing on the Cuyuna bike trails and ice fishing to name a few! My family and I live in the area and we would be happy to provide recommendations for places to eat/visit during your stay!
During the summer months, enjoy swimming, fishing, the fishing boat (motor not incl), paddle boating, kayaking (1 kayak & paddle incl), canoeing (canoe and paddles included in your stay), playing yard games, relaxing in the hammock, sipping coffee on the dock, roasting brats/making smores, taking walks down the long drive way. There is a private boat launch on the property if you want to bring your own boat to use on the lake (or the numerous surrounding lakes). The nearby towns offer numerous options for dining, shopping, drinks and activities, including the renowned Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Biking Trails, the mining lakes (for kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming etc), hiking as well as the off-roading trails further north in Emily.
During the winter months, enjoy ice fishing, ice skating (shovel provided if you want to clear an ice rink on the lake), snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing or fat tire biking on the mountain biking trails! The Cuyuna Lakes area is just as beautiful and adventurous to explore in the winter as it is the summer!
Don't forget Spring and Fall! Beautiful colors and crisp evenings (with fewer bugs!) make for great bon fires, hikes and spins around the lake!

About the host
Hosted by Dan Ugstad

My family and I moved to the Cuyuna Lakes area in the summer of 2020 and have thoroughly enjoyed living in this area! We would love to share recommendations for places to eat or local activities.
Why they chose this property
This cabin is our own little slice of up north heaven. We purchased the property in 2017 with the goal of providing an up north retreat for other families. We did so for the summers of 2018 and 2019 and our guests had a blast - fishing, boating, roasting marshmallows and enjoying the great outdoors. In the summer of 2020, my family and I actually moved into the cabin until the fall of 2021, when we moved to nearby Deerwood. The time at the cabin was illylic - swimming off the dock with the kids after work, meals out on the patio while listening to the loons long walks on the driveway and dirt road. This cabin will offer you a chance to disconnect from the many distractions of everyday life and connect with yourself, your family and nature. We hope others enjoy this little red cabin as much as we do!
