Kirk was an exceptional host for a exceptional property. Very communicative, and the cabin had a very homey vibe to it. If you're looking for a serene remote getaway we highly recommend.
It was clean with great instructions on how to keep this remote cabin working well. Even had coffee and cooking essentials available. Beautiful location.
This is one our favorite places to stay. The kids never get bored when we spend a day in. The owners are always quick to answer if we have a question. The house is close to plenty of hiking trails and the Great Sand Dunes.
Great stay at Hummingbird Hideaway! Gorgeous views, ample space, great accommodations. Be aware that it is very rural - approx 17 minutes just to get back to the highway, then another 30 minutes to the next town. Very quiet, great stargazing and wildlife. Highly recommend!
Very nice house, great communication with owners, clean and well stocked with extras! Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and pleasant place to stay.
We stayed 5 days the house had almost everything you could possibly think of (no cookie sheet) It was very clean and it was so nice to sit on the deck and watch wildlife or stars at night. We visited the Shrine of the Stations of the Cross , The Great Sand Dunes and the Zappa Falls all within an hour drive while we were there.
Look no further! This is the perfect getaway. The owners are very helpful and accommodating. Everything you could possibly need is provided. Highly recommend this cabin. Bring your binoculars. The Elk herd across from the cabin was amazing to watch and hear multiple days of our stay. Thanks again to the owners for an amazing experience in Forbes park.
The owners are always quick to respond and helpful. The house has everything we needed and plenty of room to relax. We all enjoy the pool table and games. This was our second stay at the Hummingbird Hideaway. We really enjoyed both stays.
We really enjoyed our stay at humming bird hideaway. Great, remote, peaceful cabin.

About the host
Hosted by Kirk and Andrea Crespin
During our honeymoon in Forbes Park in November 2017, we instantly fell in love with the peaceful landscape and the beauty of the area. When the chance came to purchase the cabin we were staying in, we knew it was meant to be. We lovingly named it Hummingbird Hideaway, inspired by the serenity and charm we felt here.
In 2018, our original cabin was lost in the Spring Fire - which was a heartbreaking moment for us. But with time, hope, and determination, we rebuilt. Today, we’re proud to share the new Hummingbird Hideaway with our guests. It’s more than a cabin to us... it’s a place filled with memories, resilience, and the same mountain magic that first captured our hearts.
Why they chose this property
This property offers not only stunning natural surroundings, but also the added privacy and security of a gated community, which is something that truly sets it apart from other mountain cabins.
Situated on roughly 5.5 acres, the cabin provides a peaceful sense of having the entire area to yourself. Homes in Forbes Park are thoughtfully spaced, allowing plenty of seclusion while still feeling connected to nature. Although we recommend 4‑wheel drive during winter and early spring, the roads leading to the cabin are maintained dirt roads, making for a scenic and enjoyable drive.
Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or a fun-filled family escape, this cabin has been the perfect setting for both in our own lives. We hope you love the Hummingbird Hideaway as much as we do, and we look forward to welcoming you to our home away from home.
What makes this property unique
Our cabin has a meaningful history. It was originally listed on VRBO before the Spring Fire of 2018, which sadly claimed our first home. Since then, extensive fire‑mitigation efforts have been completed throughout Forbes Park, and we have rebuilt Hummingbird Hideaway with safety and resilience in mind. We kindly ask all guests to follow current fire restrictions to help protect this beautiful area.
Inside, the cabin is designed for comfort and flexibility. The upper-level master bedroom features a cozy king bed, while the main level offers a comfortable queen. The lower level includes two additional bedrooms, each with a full-size bed, and we provide air mattresses for extra sleeping space as needed.
The spacious, fully stocked kitchen includes everything you need for your stay: a gas range, full-size refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, and blender. Additional amenities - such as a gas grill and a washer and dryer - make longer stays even more convenient.
To keep you comfortable year‑round, the cabin includes a wood-burning fireplace and radiant heat for cold-weather months, as well as a mini-split air conditioning unit for warmer days. Entertainment is also well-covered with premium streaming services available on televisions in the main living area, the master bedroom, and the lower-level family room.
Step outside, and you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking views of the nearby 11,000- to 14,000‑foot peaks. Enjoy unforgettable sunsets from the main deck, watch the local wildlife wander through the park, or take advantage of the many outdoor activities nearby - hiking, fishing, hunting (outside Forbes Park), or exploring local gems like Great Sand Dunes National Park, Zapata Falls, the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, Blanca Peak, and the charming towns of Fort Garland, Blanca, San Luis, La Veta, and Cuchara.
We hope you’ll love our little home away from home as much as we do. We would be delighted to welcome you to Hummingbird Hideaway!
