About this property

You'll love the amazing views at the Hummingbird Hideaway!

This newly rebuilt 2040 square foot log cabin is nestled within the Sangre De Cristo Mountains in the Southeastern part of Colorado at an approximate 9100 feet elevation. It is located 95 miles north of Taos NM, 93 miles south of Pueblo CO, 42 miles east of Alamosa CO and 44 miles west of Walsenburg, CO.

The cabin is also located within Forbes Park, which is a private, gated neighborhood on 13,000 acres. The wildlife in Forbes Park is very diverse. You will find lots of deer, elk, turkey, bears, coyotes, beavers, birds and smaller animals all areas. Hunting is available in the nearby areas however there is NO HUNTING within Forbes Park. We recommend that you check with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website to learn more about licensing and the available areas located nearby for hunting.

The spring and summer months have wonderful climates that range from 41 to 81 degrees. Winter however, can produce and average snowfall of 44.4 inches. Please note that due to heavy winter snows and the annual spring snow melt, A 4-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE IS HIGHLY RECCOMENDED FOR WINTER & EARLY SPRING ACCESS!

Premium services such as HBO Max, Disney+, Netflix, Paramount+ and more are also available with the Roku video streaming services. We will provide a wi-fi password and directions for tv use; however, we do not provide any type of technical support. There are plenty of recreational opportunities in the area. From the Great Sand Dunes to the Historic Fort Garland Museum. We believe that you will find a great mix of relation and recreation at the Hummingbird Hideaway. Please note that Forbes Park does have certain covenants that must be followed. As such, ATV's, UTV's, and Motorcycles are not permitted inside Forbes Park.

Your privacy is of our utmost concern. However, we also believe that safety and security is an important part of your stay.
- We have provided a hard wired telephone, and two 10-mile and 2-way radios for your safety. Due to the wildlife in the area, we feel that you should take precautions when hiking away from the cabin.
- We have installed a monitored alarm system that can be enabled at night. Outdoor motion sensing security cameras and outside motion detection lighting will help alert you of wildlife outdoors before you leave the home in the dark.
- You may arm the system as "home" at night to ensure your families safety. However, you must remember not to open any other door but the main entrance when the system is armed.
- The Outdoor security cameras are located under the deck to cover both patio entrances, on the side of the house facing both the north and south sides of the cabin and one doorbell video camera that will monitor the main entryway.
- All outdoor cameras cover the outside perimeter with lighting and motion detection of the cabin for your safety.
- There are NO indoor cameras. If you find unauthorized cameras or are concerned about certain areas, please notify us immediately so we can investigate it further.

PLEASE NOTE: There is currently there is a Stage 2 fire restriction in Forbes Park. Open fires and/or fireworks are not allowed.

Great Get Away
The house had everything we needed for the stay. There were plenty of games and movies for the kids and plenty of room for everyone. It was located close to the National Park and other great areas for hiking and exploring. The owners always responded quickly if we had a question.

While spending our Honeymoon here in November 2017, we fell in love with this cabin! When the sale of this cabin arose, we jumped at the opportunity. After purchasing this property, we chose to name this quaint cabin "The Hummingbird Hideaway."
In 2018 our original cabin was lost during the Spring Fire. However, we have rebuilt and we are excited to share our spectacular cabin with you!

Why they chose this property

This property not only has beautiful surroundings but with the privacy and security of being in a gated community, it offers much more than other properties that we have found.

Nestled on approximately 5.5 acres, we have always enjoyed having the cabin and the area to ourselves while staying here. The homes in this community are spaced very well to allow a certain level of seclusion and privacy. Even though 4-wheel drive is recommended during the winter and early spring months, the drive to the cabin is on maintained dirt roads so you can enjoy the scenery in route to the cabin.

This cabin is perfect for a romantic getaway or a family bonding weekend - we have enjoyed this cabin for both. We believe that you will enjoy our home away from home as much as we have and would love to welcome you to the Hummingbird Hideaway!

What makes this property unique

Please note that this cabin has been on VRBO with our previous cabin that was burned down in the Spring fire of 2018. Fire mitigation efforts have taken place to prevent future fires, but we ask that all renters follow and abide by the current fire restrictions.

The cabin has a comfy king bed in the upper level master bedroom as well as a queen bed in the main level bedroom. There are two bedrooms in the lower level with full sized beds in each room and there are additional air mattresses available if needed.

The spacious kitchen is fully stocked with the essentials you may need which includes, a gas oven range, a large refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker and blender. The cabin also includes additional amenities such as a gas grill and a washer and dryer.

The wood fireplace and radiant heating keeps the cabin warm when it is cold and there is a window mount air conditioning unit available for you when the temperatures are higher. We have premium tv streaming services included on televisions located on the main floor, the master bedroom and the lower level family room.

You will have beautiful views of 11,000-foot to 14,000-foot mountains nearby with amazing sunsets from the main deck. The park has lots of wildlife and hiking. There are lakes and rivers for nearby fishing and hunting. You can visit the Sand Dunes National Park, Zapata Falls, Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, hike Blanca Peak or the nearby picturesque towns of Fort Garland, Blanca, San Luis, LaVeta, and Cuchara!

We believe that you will enjoy our little home away from home as much as we have and would love to welcome you to the Hummingbird Hideaway!
