About this property

Spectacular Views of Shadow Mountain Lake and RMNP and dog-friendly!

The spectacular 180-degree panoramic view of Shadow Mountain Lake and the Rocky Mountains is what separates this vacation home from many other rental properties in the Grand Lake area.
NOTE: Kitchen remodeled in Feb-Mar 2022 (new cabinets, quartz countertops and new appliances). New shower doors in all 3 bathrooms in January 2021. House re-stained in Spring 2020. Upper deck was replaced with composite decking in Fall 2019! Recycled asphalt driveway in Spring 2018. New great room windows installed in Spring 2017 and Spring 2021! Based on previous reviews, we purchased windows that can be opened in the great room to allow the cool refreshing lake breeze to flow through the house. No air-conditioning, but there is a manual evaporative cooler and fans are provided in every bedroom.

Enjoy the beauty and majesty of Grand Lake and the Rocky Mountains from this three-story, 4-bedroom, 3-bath home overlooking Shadow Mountain Lake and the Rocky Mountain National Park. The wall of windows in the large great room, as well as the two huge wrap-around decks, provide magnificent views of the lake and mountains. The bedrooms are located on three separate floors, which provides privacy for multiple family gatherings, and you can see the lake from each bedroom.

In Summer, maximize your time outdoors on the decks, which both overlook Shadow Mountain Lake. You can sunbathe or cook dinner on the propane grill on the upper deck, or spend a lazy afternoon lounging in a hammock on the lower deck while watching the boats glide by on the lake. In Winter, you can enjoy a crackling fire in the wood-burning fireplace while watching a movie or playing games on the checker-board table.

We are located just five minutes from the town of Grand Lake and the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Grand Lake provides a classic 'old west' town ambiance and fun for the whole family. In Grand Lake, you can enjoy the shops, restaurants, beach, boat rentals, hiking trails, guided and unguided snowmobile and ATV rentals, and more. In summer, the park offers a wide variety of hiking trails and several have waterfalls. You can visit Trail Ridge Marina (Shadow Mt. Lake), which is located just 100 yards down the road. The marina offers pontoon and sport-boat rentals, and from this marina you are allowed to take the boats into adjoining Grand Lake. A golf course is located nearby, only about 5 minutes by car. In winter, the golf course is turned into a Nordic center that offers groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing through the woods, as well as free tubing. In addition to There are 300 miles of spectacular snowmobiling trails in Grand Lake, including 150 miles of groomed trails. And Winter Park Ski Area is located about 40 minutes away. In addition to Grand Lake being the ultimate spot for a summer vacation, it is also the perfect getaway to accommodate all your winter sport activities. Book early as this is a year-round vacation home with a very strong rental history and repeat renters.

Rocky Mountain National Park is home to an abundant wildlife population including elk, deer, moose, bear, raccoons and foxes and many of these pass through the property regularly. Miles of hiking and snowshoeing trails are accessible from the park.

There is no better place to spend a vacation or the holidays than in the mountains of Colorado.

NOTE: We DO NOT allow gatherings or events (family reunions, weddings, rehearsal dinners, bachelor or bachelorette parties, graduation parties, etc.) of any kind to take place in our home. NOTE: If you think there's a chance you may have to cancel for any reason outside of the designated cancellation policy timeline, we suggest you purchase travel insurance, which VRBO offers. We will proceed as outlined in our cancellation policy, unless the owner agrees to offer an exception.

Thanksgiving

This property was perfect for our family Thanksgiving in the mountains. The view was as pictured absolutely stunning overlooking Shadow Mountain Lake. There was enough space in the main room for 7 of us to stretch out and do our own thing. Directions to home was right on and we had no trouble finding it. Karen made herself very available for any questions or concerns we had. My group definitely were wishing for a return visit.

Lovely home with a view

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. We spent a lot of time on the large deck and our extended family was comfortable with the multiple beds that allowed everyone to have their own space. The kitchen was well equipped and the owner promptly responded to any questions we had during our stay. Would highly recommend.

A wonderful getaway for our family.

This beautiful house overlooking Shadow Mountain exceeded our expectations. The owners have gone above and beyond to stock the kitchen with everything you would need for meals. In addition, the linens were quality and the bedrooms were nicely appointed in cabin/mountain decor. The space was awesome and felt very cozy! We will definitely return!

Amazing House

This house was perfect for a little family trip. There was plenty of space for 12 adults and the views were better than the pictures. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of dishes and there were spices and condiments which was a nice little suprise. The location was great. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a place to stay in Grand Lake.

Home away from home

Karen and Randy were amazing! They were so accommodating, everything was taken care of I swear we were home away in the mountains. They stocked up on firewood and even decorated the place with a Christmas tree and lights! I highly recommend taking a trip and staying here.

Wow! This was the perfect Lakehouse!

The house was exactly as advertised, the view was awesome, the stars sparkled like crazy (even caught the International Space Station flying high above). We had three families in the house in three of the bedrooms and had one bedroom to spare. The two decks provided incredible space to enjoy the outdoors. There were even provided hammocks to use on the lower deck.

Cozy, Warm, Great layout

What a wonderful cozy home. We were there in March 2019 with a blended group of people and the property gave us the gathering area and the seperate space as we needed. What a wonderful view of all the snow falling and overlooking the lake. The home had everything you could need, fully stocked, clean and comfy. Loved the home, couldn't have asked for better hosts in the owners, very attentive and took great care of us. Thank you so much

Wonderful Home even better hosts

We went up over Presidents weekend and truly enjoyed our stay. The view out the windows is really amazing and the house is by far the most well stocked house for kitchen items, towels, linens, pillows, blankets etc. any of us had ever stayed at and I'm guessing we've stayed at close to 30 VRBO's between the two families. We had 9 people and had plenty of space for sleeping, eating and relaxing. The hosts communication was wonderful and truly a pleasure to deal with. We will definitely be back at some point in the future.

Amazing Trip!!

This is the kind of house the makes you go “wowww” when you first walk in the door. View is spectacular! The house was amazing. Set up perfectly with everything you could think of and more. Randy and Karen were super communicable and were always just an email away. Check out the Trail Ridge Marina across the street for dog-friendly boat rentals and real good times. The fam and the pups had an absolute blast and are already talking/barking about the next trip to Shadow Mountain Lake. Thanks for a great time!

Trip of a lifetime

We loved the house. We had four adults and four teenagers. The sleeping arrangements worked well. The views were beyond spectacular. Randy and Karen were quick to respond to questions. The house was clean and cutely decorated. We LOVED the Grand Lake side as it seemed less congested than the Estes Park side when we took a day trip there. We did a ton of hiking, horseback riding, boating, and just driving around and looking at nature. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from Karen and Randy again.

We did it all!

We hiked, biked, rode horses, creek stomped, fished, swam, shopped in charming Grand Lake and played in the cute little park (multiple times), and slowed traffic like the tourists we were, and at the end of each beautiful day, came together as a family in this perfect house. The mornings were the best though, when my grandchildren taught me their versions of card games on the deck, while the others slept a bit longer, with a cool mountain breeze blowing through the windows. The 20-somethings actually put down their phones, except when they were taking pictures! Best vacation ever. Thank you for allowing us to share your home!

Wonderful vacation home with a stunning view of the lake

We want to extend our gratitude to Karen and Randy for being such wonderful hosts. The house was just perfect for our family getaway. It is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, which after receiving a foot of snow overnight, gave us a perfect venue for snowshoeing. And the views from the house were absolutely stunning. The home was very well equipped - the kitchen had everything you could ever need to prepare your favorite vacation feast. Karen was so thoughtful in her communications, providing excellent recommendations for things to do nearby, and even checking in to make sure we were ok during and after the big snow storm. We were sad to leave, and are now looking forward to returning in the summertime. Many thanks to Karen and Randy for giving us such a memorable and much needed vacation!

A wonderful place to spend time with loved ones!

From our initial booking to questions after checkout, Karen and Randy were sooo helpful! The house is beautiful with amazing views of the lake and mountains. The house was immaculately clean upon arrival and there were supplies available to maintain it that way during our week long stay over the holidays. We were all sooo grateful that the owners had decorated the house for Christmas. They basically thought of everything....from having the kitchen stocked, to providing extra blankets and firewood. There was plenty of room for my family of nine to gather together to watch movies and play games in the great room. The house’s mountains decor was charming and cozy. I highly recommend this rental home. Thanks Karen and Randy for making our vacation memorable!

About the host

Hosted by Randy and Karen Davis

Host profile image
Randy is a former Marine and a native of Colorado. I am originally from NH but have lived in Colorado for over 37 years. We live in Lakewood, a suburb of Denver, and Grand Lake is a two-hour drive from our year-round home.

Why they chose this property

We decided to purchase a vacation home in Grand Lake as we approached retirement in 2016. We have been visiting and vacationing in the Grand Lake area during our entire marriage, over 27 years. Grand Lake is the perfect escape, and we have experienced many peaceful and relaxing vacations in Grand Lake. We especially like hiking and snow-shoeing and boating with our dogs, as well viewing wildlife during early morning drives through the National Park.

What makes this property unique

We knew this was the home for us the minute we walked in the front door and saw the spectacular 180-degree panoramic view of the lake and mountains. We think you'll agree the view is worth the price of admission. :)
