Mount Storm lake is a 1200 acre lake that is heated by a Dominion Energy Power plant. Water temperatures are normally in the 80's making for relaxing swimming and boating. Convenient to highway 48, and approximately three hours to DC. Just south of the Western edge of Maryland and approximately 2-2.5 hours from Pittsburgh.
We have a private boat ramp and dock with slide on property with gorgeous views of the lake. (https://wvtourism.com/company/mount-storm-lake/) Enjoy swimming in the warm water, resting in the shade, or even reading a book from our home library in the hammock.
If you enjoy fishing, you can catch numerous types of fish, including largemouth and smallmouth bass as well as numerous channel catfish. Hybid striped bass and walleye are also present. Fishing licenses are required and available online at takemefishing.org/west-virginia/fishing-license or at local Walmart stores (approx. 30-45 minute drive). The local Liberty gas station / convenience mart sells bait (3 miles/5 minute drive).
For food and other essentials, there is a grocery store (Shop and Save) and an organic market (Highland Market) in Davis, WV that are 16 miles away (approx. 21 minute drive), several grocery stores (Shop and Save, Food Lion, and Walmart) in Moorefield, WV that are 30 miles away (approx. 33 minute drive), and a Walmart and other grocery stores in Keyser, WV that are 24 miles away (approx. 30 minute drive). You may love the lake so much that you don't want to venture out much during your stay. But if you do, some of the gorgeous locations you can visit within a 25-45 minute drive include hiking and other nature activities at Blackwater Falls State Park (https://wvstateparks.com/park/blackwater-falls-state-park/), horseback riding with Mountain Trail Rides (http://www.mountaintrailrides.com/), as well as Timberline Four-seasons Resort and Canaan Valley Resort Golf and Ski Area (https://www.canaanresort.com/).
In addition, the towns of Davis, WV and Thomas, WV, located within a 20-25 minute drive from the house have numerous attractions, including restaurants, breweries, ice cream shops, music venues, art galleries, antique stores, and more. Coronavirus restrictions are in place, mandating wearing masks in public areas and most locations have limited hours and/or carry-out service only.
This is truly a special place and we hope that you find it to be as wild and wonderful as we do. In fact, we think it's 'almost heaven.'

About Dennis and Dorothy Martino
We discovered this lake when searching for a place to enjoy boating and other water sports and we fell in love with the location, the warm water, and the community. We had never spent much time in West Virginia before, but plan on retiring here. We both retired from the military in Northern Virginia and enjoy coming out to the mountains for relaxation and fun.
