About this property
Beautiful views in Voyageurs National Park. Fish & Swim off the dock.
This cabin is nestled in tall white pines with expansive south facing views into Voyageurs National Park. The 1310 ft cabin is rustic with half log siding and a pine wood interior. It is a .36 acre lot with smoothed granite outcroppings and a solid rock granite shoreline that somewhat gradually slopes into the water.
The dock is superb with 13-15 feet of deep cold water right at the end of the dock. You can catch walleyes, sauger, northern pike, perch and bass right from the dock. The dock has electrical power for charging your batteries and a light. The property is very close to Chief Woodenfrog campground (we are just on the next point south) and you can use the boat launch there and park overnight if needed. You can also moor your boat on our dock, as it is protected from the wind and we have a secure way for you to tie it off on three points.
The cabin itself is comfortable with lots of windows and a large wood deck with a Weber propane grill. It is decorated with a nice homey cabin decor. There is a fresh water tank (1700 gallons) and the water is high quality, treated, drinking water from International Falls.
We think 6 people is the maximum capacity. It has 4 beds plus two pull out sleeper couches, so there are 6 individual beds if you count the sleeper couches. There are 4 separate sleeping areas. It only has 1 bathroom and a limit of 1500 gallons of water - that is a limitation and the reason we recommend 6. BR#1 - Queen bed. Water view. BR#2 - Full double bed size bunk beds. Sleeping area 3 - Pull out couch, single bed size, awesome views. This is also the game room. Sleeping area 4 - Queen bed and a pull out couch, double size. Good views. In the main room that adjoins the kitchen. This is the best room for early risers.
The two bedrooms are totally private and the other sleeping areas are somewhat private, except that people will need to pass through them to get to the bathroom during the night.
No matter which room you sleep in, you will wake up to great views of the lake. It is a good feeling, as is a morning cup of coffee out on the end of the dock.
As mentioned above, there is one bathroom with a tub/shower and a stacked full size washer and dryer.
The kitchen has a range, oven, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, a crock pot and an assortment of pans and cooking utensils. There is enough parking in the driving area for 3 cars.
There is a nice sized fire pit down near the lake for a late night campfire.
The lake is a paradise(24,000 acres, 80 ft deep) with direct water connection to Namakan (24,000 acres, 150 ft deep ), Sand Point (8400 acres 184 ft deep) and Crane Lake (300 acres 80 ft deep). All of these lakes can be accessed directly by boat. You can also go over a boat portage through Kettle Falls and into Rainy Lake. Most of these lakes share a border with Canada. Wildlife is abundant, cabins are not. It is easy to get out in a secluded quiet bay where you are alone in nature. This is a very pristine wilderness area and National Park. Plan to spend some time out on the water.
No cable TV service is provided, but there is free wifi up to 12 Mbps and a TV monitor with a Google Chromecast connected to it so that you can cast your Netflix, YouTubeTV, or Hulu account to the monitor.
There are some restaurants on the lake that you can access by car or boat as well as some nice hikes out on the Kabetogama peninsula (water access to trail head). There is a lot to see. Find out more at the Voyageurs National Park visitor center.

What a wonderful place. Perfect cabin perfect setting everything was great about the cabin. The dock was great. Perfect weather can’t wait to come back.
As a visitor to the lake since 1960, I am delighted to have had enjoyed this superior stay! The property was more appealing than the photographs, which were enough to attract us. The dock was in good condition, and the rocky ledge an acceptable way to approach the water with our kayaks and the canoe. The property was in ideal proximity to our families at neighboring resorts, but afforded us the ideal privacy we crave from time to time during the lazy days on vacation.
We three (me, husband and adult daughter) had a really great relaxing 2 weeks at the plaid cabin. It is equipped with every item you might need, very nicely decorated and comfortable bedding, but most of all an incredible location of Lake Kabegama. It really allowed us to unplug, relax and just hang out at the cabin, as well as exploring Voyageurs National Park and exploring the Park visitor centers, trails, and fishing and boating on the lake. Also our dog Maize had a field day chasing (but not catching) chipmunks. Thanks to the owners for allowing us to share their beautiful cabin.
Great place to stay. Great view of the lake, great front yard, great dock, great fire pit. Quiet, clean and comfortable house. Accommodating hosts. Was able to bring an elderly dog who had a great time sleeping but also hanging on the dock watching a loon and ducks! Incredible to be to bring her with us!
This was a perfect place to stay. It was clean. The views were amazing. It was peaceful. The owner gave us a lot of helpful information about the area and hiking trails. We would come back here again.
My husband, 2 year old daughter, and parents stayed at Darren’s and wife’s cabin for a week. It was a beautiful location with wonderful views. The cabin was well cared for and maintained and very clean. They had all the little touches which were nice. I really appreciated the fact it was not sparse with stuff but rather a cabin you would call your own with all the things you need and some.
Darren was super easy to communicate with and helpful. I really appreciated all his quick responses and easy going nature. They were so kind to even let us check in a little early which was not expected but totally appreciated.
Just an over all professional and friendly experience and a lovely cabin as well!
It was probably the hottest week of the year there so that was hard with no air conditioning but most days we had a good breeze and they provided fans and we brought some as well. We figured out how to trap the cool night air in the cabin on those hotter days which helped!
The experience was great overall and highly recommend it!
Great location on the lake. Loved watching the pelicans in the bay. Very peaceful and serene. The cabin is very homey and easy to relax in. All the amenities were as advertised, plus more. The owners were very quick to respond to any questions we had. We would definitely reccomend this cabin, and would go back again next summer
Very nice cabin right on the lake and very close to access for Voyagers National Park.
Cozy and comfortable. Well stocked. Very homey. Nice touches such as liquid soap, kleenex, smores makings, some staples in the cabinets, throw blankets, loons in the lake, deer in the yard!
Cabin plaid is in a wonderful location, close to the boat launch and provided plenty of room for our family. The greenspace and large dock was great for morning coffee and evening fishing. Darren was very responsive and great to work with.
This home was very clean, quiet, well equipped, well laid out and up to date. The dock was great, with a protected, deep water area to dock our boat and also fish off. We caught several fish with bobbers there while enjoying the lake front. Darren and Bonnie were always just a phone call or text away. We also appreciated their approval of our dog who loves to fish with us. We enjoyed the lake and Voyageur National Park during our week there, and Darren even provided a couple fishing areas to try. We caught a fair number of big and little fish and spent a lot of time on the water.
This is a lovely area to explore and this is a great place to stay while you do it!
Thank you Darren and Bonnie for opening your home to us. Your property exceeded our expectations! My two brothers and I went up for a fishing trip on Kabetogama and this property provided everything we needed and more! A beautiful deck for morning coffee and post fishing relaxing and grilling, a fully stocked kitchen and spacious sleeping areas that isolated the snorers! Seriously, after years of renting stuffy “cabins” at “resorts” this was a refreshing and surprisingly easy and affordable alternative! Throughout the process Darren and Bonnie communicated with us instantly both by phone and text. They lead with and maintain a, “no problem, make yourself at home” attitude that made the entire process stress free and welcoming ! And the three point tie off for the boat is sheer genius! I slept soundly as the boat floated securely tucked in and off the dock! The fishing was great! (..Except for that pesky slot limit...) My brothers and I have been fishing together since we were kids and this place allowed us to gather from all over the country in a family setting we laughed, we reminisced we broke bread and busted onions! We will be back!! Thanks again for the perfect north woods setting!!!!

Perfect Setting
This cabin was the perfect setting for a get away and had great views of the lake. The three season room was really nice to relax in. The dock offered a safe place to tie up our boat and the fishing from the dock was a highlight as well.

The cabin was very nice and met all of our needs and then some. It had a beautiful view!
Our trip included my husband, stepson and myself. We are from Oklahoma and my husband and I are 72 and 65. Neither of us had a lot of boating experience so Darren, our host, warned us that Lake Kab might be tough navigating for beginners as it has many rock outcroppings. Our son owns two boats and was able to manage just fine with a good map. The Lake was beautiful. We used Northern Lights to rent a boat and had a great experience! The best part of the trip was Darren’s suggestion to hire Don Granger for a fishing guide trip. Took us all the way to Kettle Falls! Great fishing, sightseeing and lunch from our own catch at the Kettle Falls Hotel. Darren didn’t have any reviews when we booked, but now I can highly recommend this place! Go check it out, you won’t regret it! Great stay!

We live in the twin cities near where Bonnie grew up and the cabin is up north near where Darren grew up. Bonnie went to Gustavus Adolphus college and studied education. She works in sales. Darren went to the U of Minnesota and also the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is an engineer and is currently running FishDonkey, which is an app for creating and running fishing tournaments on a mobile phone.
Why they chose this property
Most of the lake is so undeveloped, quiet, and secluded. You are a part of nature in Voyageurs National Park. You can hike on the Kabetogama peninsula or reserve a canoe in lakes where you will be the only people there. It is wild and it is fantastic. The cabin is clean and comfortable. We love fishing from the dock and the beautiful views off the deck from under the tall white pines.
What makes this property unique
This is a fully stocked cabin with quality and comfort inside of a national park.
