About this property
Vines & Views. Modern designer cottage with 360-degree views of vines & wildlife
A modern designer cottage sitting atop a 12 acre property with 360 degree views of the beautiful and bountiful wine growing and ranching region of The California Central Coast next door to a world renowned Bio-dynamic Winery.
A large deck for outdoor dining, drinking, watching our local wildlife and contemplating the joys of life. A spacious open plan sitting and dining area with central island with more of those panoramic views outside. Ideal for communing, chilling and enjoying the epicurean delights of wine country. Two spacious double bedrooms with high quality queen beds, freshly ironed linens and a European bathroom complete with a large walk in rain-head shower. Perfect for resting and refreshing. A bocce ball court with a view to die for, and miles of trails if you are feeling energetic.
All this only 12 minutes off the 101, in the heart of over 100 wineries, a 15-minute drive to the bars, restaurants and shopping of Paso Robles, Templeton and Atascadero and 30 minutes to the coast from Morro Bay to Hearst Castle.
Our cottage is designed for adults and sleeps 4. It has every thing you need for a memorable stay on the central coast, for a weekend, a week or a month.
Our kitchen comes with everything you need to enjoy meals at home with an outside BBQ that might have one of the best views of any BBQ in California.
The home is a contemporary design reflecting the owners' international travels and has all the comforts of home including high quality freshly ironed bed linen, towels, bathroom supplies, hair dryer and plenty of wardrobe space.
Super efficient heating & a/c. Filtered water. High speed WiFi on a property that is to all intents and purposes 'off the grid' and self-sufficient. We try to keep our environmental footprint to a minimum.
Outside there are 13 acres grazed by deer, horses, cattle, sheep and llamas which guests can walk around. Guests are also welcome to use the bocce ball court which might have the best views from the court anywhere.
We live on the property, and will welcome you with a package of local delicacies along with a native's knowledge of things to do in the area. Let us know if its beach, mountains, towns, wineries, trails, riding, shopping, dining, drinking you are looking to indulge in. We're confident we can give you great local recommendations and we have also arranged some special packages with local wineries, olive oil producers and coffee roasters.
We are lucky enough to have lived all over the world, and chose to return here as the closest place to paradise for modern living that we can find. The fact that one of us was born here didn't hurt either!
Please feel free to call if you have any questions, or email. We're confident our rates are the best value for money in the area, and we'll do whatever we can to make sure you enjoy your visit as much as we love living here.

PS. Please note that we require a minimum 3 night booking. Also the property is not suitable for wheelchair access, and we don't have cribs, high chairs etc. for infants. The property is also a working vineyard and we do have animals so cannot accept children under the age of eleven.
Also, we always buy travel insurance. Between Pandemics, natural disasters, unexpected health issues and airline calamities it’s always possible that travel plans get disrupted. The cost per trip is minimal and annual polices are also relatively inexpensive. We’ll always work with you if life happens while you’re making other plans, but having travel insurance is great piece of mind.

Thanks for the kind words. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay, making the most of our local craft breweries in the area, and also making the most of the peace and quiet of our property. We forward to welcoming you again to this special part of the planet.
Loved the place. Loved the hosts. Loved the deer that walked past the back porch every morning at coffee time. The visit to AmByth Winery just next door was especially memorable. Can't wait to come back to this perfect place.
Inviting, so thoughtful with regards to providing small items like coffee and olive oil. Breathetaking views, especially the stars at night. The llama and sheep were enchanting! Great place! Would stay over and over again. Korrin and Clive were amazing hosts, filled with great suggestions about the town and so kind!
We loved everything about our stay. The location was perfect since we wanted something out of town. The cottage was very clean and comfortable, and offered the perfect amount of privacy and quiet. The host was very helpful as we planned our trip, and then so communicative and nice while we were there. We really hope to come again. Highly recommend.
This is definitely the nicest place I've ever stayed with VRBO: over and beyond what we expected. Every detail seen to, the view fantastic, we felt like we were in Northern Italy. Can't recommend it more highly.
Honestly as hosts Clive and Karrin couldn't have done more. Great recommendations to go with the great property and location. Beautiful welcome package, well-equipped property. We had a blast in the area and will be back. Can't recommend d more highly.

Thank you. It’s our pleasure to host guests who appreciate this beautiful part of the planet as much as we do....especially guests from across the pond as I am....even if they’re from north of the border! We Look forward to welcoming you again.
Perfect getaway for attending a 70th Anniversary Party. Loved the tranquil setting with so many animals nearby. Spent evenings on the back patio with a full moon filling the sky. Cottage interior extremely welcoming. Beds comfortable, towels luxurious and kitchen well maintained. You don't come here to watch TV, so having a small one didn't matter.

Thank you for your kind words. The views are always spectacular so staying over a full moon weekend makes them even more memorable. As you say, when you have 360 degree views of wine country, we thought 5 panoramic picture windows and a shaded deck the whole width of the cottage are infinitely preferable to TV watching. That said, if there’s a game you just have to watch the 34” HDTV should suffice.
I was in CA for business and loved coming "home" to this great property. Clive was a gracious host and always available. The property is spectacular. Clean and comfortable. A refreshing change from coming back to a hotel room after a long day in the fields.

We are glad you found the 5 nights you spent at Kuona Cottage so relaxing and refreshing. As you found our we try to make sure you have a more comfortable experience and much better value for money, especially for longer stays. We enjoy hosting professionals who work with the farmers, ranchers and wineries in the area. We hope to see you again next time you are working on the Central Coast.
Hard to describe how incredible the cottage is. The property itself is built and fitted to the highest standards, and set in the most stunning of locations with incredible views. Perfect choice for getting away from it all and just spending time relaxing. There are vineyards everywhere in the area and plenty of other coastal and inland places to visit. The owners could not have been more helpful and really made the stay one to remember. Definitely hope to return one day.

Tim, thanks for such appreciative comments. We always enjoy hosting guests from across the pond and helping them appreciate and make the most of the wonderful attractions we have on our doorstep. Cheers!
This is a very special, magical and immaculate place to stay. Peaceful and quiet, yet still close to town, wineries, and restaurants. Clive and Karrin were the quintessential hosts, making us feel so well taken care of while giving us plenty of privacy. Their winery and restaurant recommendations were all wonderful. We enjoyed their company and their beautiful home/cottage, and would make a return visit in a second. Highly recommend staying here.

Thank you so much for your kind and uplifting review. We are glad you enjoyed the cottage and experiencing some of the great food and wine relationships we have with local friends and neighbors.
From the moment I booked until we left, our host could not have done more to make us feel welcome. The property is beautiful. I enjoyed waking up to watch the sunrise with my coffee and seeing the resident llama and sheep, along with their babies, saunter by. I even spotted a few deer!
If I am in the area I would 100% return. Thank you for a fabulous stay.
Clive and Karrin are amazing hosts! The property is secluded and peaceful, and the cottage has many well thought out amenities. We had regular visits from a family of deer and we enjoyed tranquil mornings with coffee on the deck overlooking the valley below. We will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Clive Pinder
We were born on the Central Coast of California and the West Coast of Africa. We have lived to travel, funded by successful careers in entertainment, technology and healthcare. We are happiest among friends in exotic places, enjoying the epicurean delights of great food, wine and conversation. Our goal has always been to build homes around the idea of open plan open air living in places that we love. After building a beach home on the island Zanzibar off the East Coast of Africa, we turned our attention to building our dream home back home where Karrin was born.
Why they chose this property
We designed and built the homes on the property ourselves. The cottage is based on all the features and home comforts we look for when renting our own holiday villas. We are lucky enough to have lived and traveled around the world, from Europe through Africa. Big cities, country villages and golden sandy beaches. Yet chose to return here because of the unique combination of great weather, world class vineyards and ranches, one of the most famous coastlines in the world, easy access by car and plane and wonderful shops and restaurants. Not included: Noise; Mini-bars, Schedules, Lowered Voices, Strangers, Apologizing. Included: Peace & Quiet, Space, Freedom, Flexibility, Conviviality, Loved Ones, Great Memories.
What makes this property unique
The first thing you'll notice as you drive up the lane is the tranquility. Then you'll be immersed in a 360 degree view of rolling hills, vineyards and ranches. (Kuona means 'To See' in Swahili, the language of Zanzibar and East Africa). As we welcome you with a glass of wine, a pot of tea (the English are never far from a cuppa) or freshly roasted coffee from our coffee shop, you'll be struck by the warm, contemporary interior design and all the comforts of home. That includes a welcome pack from some of our favorite producers in the area including wine, discounted wine tastings, olive oil, freshly roasted coffee and amazing honey from bees who feast on a coastal avocado farm.
We have friends at vineyards and olive farms, restaurants ranches around the area. That means we have plenty of 'insider tips' and 'local knowledge' to help you make the most of your stay.
Right next door is a world famous natural wine vineyard where you can get a tour & tasting of one of the purest and most natural expressions of wine you will ever taste.
Just down the road is an amazing organic fruit and vegetable farm.
We love living here and enjoying all the world class natural produce that the Central Coast has to offer.
