About the host
Hosted by Monica Toomey

My husband Chris and I grew up in Philly suburbs, met in DC in 1989, married in 1992 and began our adventure together living in many states (MD, PA, NJ, OH) over the years due to job promotions and takeovers. We moved to the Detroit area in 2015 and immediately felt a connection. We have an equestrian business in NJ and in MI now, and we love the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival, which is how we found Elk Rapids. We are an active family, with 4 kids, 2 of which compete at GLEF, and we love everything about Northern Michigan. I wasn't excited about moving again, but now I couldn't imagine living anywhere else!
Why they chose this property
My husband Chris and I purchased this home in October 2017. We moved to Michigan in 2015 from NJ where we both grew up spending lots of time at the Jersey shore. We are an equestrian family and found Elk Rapids during the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival and fell in love with this small town and its beach. We had a hard time finding a place to rent in Elk Rapids so we decided to buy and couldn't be happier! We have spent weekends up North this winter skiing at Boyne Mountain and will be spending parts of our summer at the horse show and beach and weekends in the fall just relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous colors and quiet. We decided to rent it to let others enjoy this wonderful small town escape while we are not using it. We hope you love it as much as we do!
What makes this property unique
The first things that got me with this home are the wrap around porch and location in Downtown ER. I have always wanted a wrap around porch and I don't know why all homes don't have them, it is such a special place to enjoy the day. The home itself is perfectly located in Downtown Elk Rapids, centrally located, it is 2 blocks to the beach and 2 blocks to town and set back just enough to be peaceful and quiet even in the "busy" summer months. You never have to worry about parking or noise, Chris always says one of his favorite things is the small town friendly, relaxed atmosphere, it is a perfect escape and allows you to completely decompress and appreciate life.
