What I wish I knew before booking…
The pro’s for this listing is that the cabin was, for the most part, as described. A little small, but not too far from Elk Rapids.
However, I wish I would have known more about the situation with the owners, before booking this listing. I booked about 6-9 months ahead, and was sent an additional rental agreement to sign, outside of VRBO’s platform, three weeks before I was to arrive, with the caveat that I would receive checkin instructions once I signed it. This made me feel uncomfortable, but I did sign it. The trip itself went fine, and at the end I followed the lengthy check out instructions. In fact, the owner text me additional instructions on top of what was listed, the morning of check out, which I also completed. I then took photos of the house before I left, as I always do. The owner then called my personal cell phone and left a harassing voicemail about how angry she was that I did not put the clean dishes from the dishwasher away, and that the carpet runner in the hallway was dirty, and I didn’t sweep a section of the floor. She then proceeded to claim the entire security deposit. The security deposit is for damages to the property. I was completely blindsided by this and have never had an experience anything like this in the many years I’ve rented from VRBO.
