About this property

Tennessee Mountain Home in Beautiful Wooded Setting

"The mountains are calling and I must go." (John Muir)

Tennessee Mountain Home is located on the Cumberland Plateau, 3 miles from the south entrance to Fall Creek Falls State Park in Van Buren County, Tennessee. It is situated on 3 acres in a wooded setting.

We are now making it available as a vacation rental when not in use by members of our family. It is the closest rental to the park's south entrance. The nightly rate is $125 and is based on double occupancy. Stay a full week and receive a 15% discount! There is a two-night minimum. Additional guests may stay, but you'll need to contact owners for info regarding that. We do not charge a cleaning fee. We do ask our guests to leave our mountain house in order and reasonable clean - mainly all trash placed in the outside receptacle with lid securely attached - all used kitchen items washed, dried, and put away - or simply left in the drainer to dry. If our guests will assist us in this way, we will be able to continue not charging a cleaning fee. We also do not require a damage deposit and hope that will continue to be the case.

This welcoming little house was completed in the fall of 2017. It was custom built by some of our Mennonite neighbors. It has 720 square feet of living space, a 125 square feet covered back deck, and a 130 square feet concrete patio complete with an outdoor fireplace. You're going to love sitting by a crackling fire in the evenings, listening to the whippoorwills, and watching the occasional deer wander through. As the day settles into evening there is a noticeable stillness and quietness that is so relaxing. On a clear night it's a wonderful place for viewing the star-lit sky.

The house has one bedroom with a queen size bed. There is one bathroom with a tub/shower combo. Bed linens are provided, as well as towels & wash cloths, and dish towels & dish cloths. There is a sofa in the living area. It is NOT a sofa bed. There is also a swivel rocker and ottoman. A smart TV makes it easy for you to access your favorite shows/movies using your personal subscription passwords. Remember to sign out before you check-out

A landline phone is available along with complimentary WiFi via high speed fiber optics service.

The kitchen is stocked with basic cooking and serving supplies. Heating and air-conditioning is provided via a Carrier high wall ductless split system. There is also a wood burning (electric) stove for ambiance and optional heat. Cuddle up in the winter months or open the windows in mild weather to enjoy the refreshing mountain breeze.

Water for the house is provided via a well on the property. It was tested at Tennessee Technological University and is also filtered.

A charcoal grill is on-site but you will need to bring your own charcoal. You will also need to bring your own firewood if you plan to use the fireplace. There are places nearby that sell firewood.

Cute, Cozy Nest

The location is beautiful, peaceful, and near Fall Creek Falls where my son ran the 50k. I enjoyed taking in the mountain home as a whole. It is well-appointed and served as a solo writing retreat as well.

TN Mountain Home

We had a nice, peaceful stay! We’ll be back someday! Bed was very comfortable, but did squeak a little when getting off the bed. Not enough to bother us. Someone mentioned bugs in a review, and we almost didn’t book, but it was mostly a few ladybugs! If you live in TN, every house has them! And the house is in the woods, so you’ll probably see a few bugs! The host was quick to respond and answer any questions, but leaves you alone and doesn’t bother you! We liked that!

Great little home close to Fall Creek Falls

This is a wonderful new home within 10 minutes of the south entrance to Fall Creek Falls State Park. It was clean, comfortable, had everything we needed, and easy to find. The owner was excellent with communication and very helpful when we left some clothes behind by accident. An unexpected bonus was the view of the Milky Way and stars on a clear night away from city lights. We didn't use the outdoor fireplace or grill since we were visiting friends in the park...but it's great that they are there. I would highly recommend this property and would stay again.

Very disappointed, definitely would not stay here again. Had high hopes when we pulled up the first time. Loudest, most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in. Could not move without very loud creaking. Made it hard to sleep. Had to be the cheapest mattress ever. Several lightbulbs missing. Internet quit the second day. Furniture was cheap and sparse either from estate sale or Big Lots. Shower water pressure was not good. The place was dirty and needed a deep cleaning. Mildew on shower curtain. Quite a bit of food in couch. Fan blades loaded with dirt. Bathroom vent fan had never been cleaned. Bugs in bathroom light, door frames, etc. Webs in corners and baseboards were filthy.

Enjoyed our stay

We had a nice time at the Tennessee Mountain Home over the Labor Day weekend. The home was clean and well stocked. The bed was too soft for us, but would be fine for those who like soft beds. Communication with the host, Joe, was great and he quickly came over to address a minor issue we had. We enjoyed seeing deer every morning and evening, and even an armadillo! We will definitely consider staying here again.

About the host

Hosted by Joe and Nancy Moffitt

Host profile image
Joe and Nancy both grew up in this community. They went their separate ways, married, raised families, both became teachers, worked together, and their families shared a close friendship. Later in life, they reconnected after both were widowed, fell in love, decided to marry, and are enjoying a wonderful new experience in a new and exciting way. They enjoy hiking in the area and the quiet life that comes from living in the woods.

Why they chose this property

This small house is situated on 3 acres of a larger piece of property that once belonged to Joe's parents and one of his grandfathers. It has been a labor of love to clear the land and build the house.

What makes this property unique

We are the closest rental to the south entrance of Fall Creek Falls State Park (the most visited of all Tennessee's parks) where there is an array of outdoor activities such as golfing, boating, hiking, biking, swimming, tennis, etc. Our house is located in the woods, 1/4 mile off the Parkway (Hwy 284).

Fall Creek Falls Riding Stable is only 1/2 mile away. In addition, many other attractions are nearby. Canopy Challenge Course is located inside the park. Dead Zero Shooting Park, ISHA USA , Rock Island State Park, Burgess Falls State Park, the scenic Sequatchie Valley, and the unique offerings of the nearby Mennonite community are just a short drive away.
