Welcome to Nickey’s Nest – A relaxing mountain retreat

Check-in is 4 PM; Check-out is 11 AM. Thank you for your understanding.

3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Bathrooms, Sleep 6 max.

Nickey’s Nest is a log home mountain retreat located just off Rt. 220 between Laporte and Dushore, in the endless mountains of northeast PA. Nickey’s Nest is centrally located between Rickett's Glen and World's End state parks, so you can choose a trip to either within a short scenic drive. If you are looking for a quieter ‘Pocono’ experience without the traffic jams, neon signs and high prices, try an Americana experience of the small towns, parks and activities of Sullivan County. Tucked nicely in the woods, Nickey’s Nest is within a short driving distance to State Game Lands #13, #66 and 57 for those interested in hunting turkey, bear and deer. There is a good chance you will see all kinds of wildlife in the surrounding area. You can enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature while sitting on the back deck or the large front porch swinging on an Outer Banks Hammock swing or on large comfortable rockers. Hike the quiet red shale roads that run through the Lost Lake development, or enjoy a mesmerizing campfire in the fire pit with friends and/or family. For those seeking adventure, Rickett’s Glen has a falls trail of 24 waterfalls and a drop from the top of the mountain, at an approximate elevation of 2446 feet, to Rt. 118, at an elevation of approximately 760 feet. Hiking shoes and a hiking staff, along with water and snacks are a prerequisite for a good day on the trail. Other hikes along the Loyalsock Creek or on the Loyalsock Trail cam provide pleasant hike through the woods to the Haystacks (a large group of boulders in the creek), Dutchman falls or Canyon Vista above World’s End State Park. The Loyalsock Creek and Muncy Creek (at the base of the mountain) are excellent trout streams along with those embedded throughout forest and waterways of the county. There are several wineries throughout the surrounding county from which you can sample and purchase their wines. As you travel the country roads, you will find unique shops from antiques, farm goods and local arts and crafts to pique your interest. Throughout the year, there are local fairs and festival going right into December. Cross country skiing is quite popular in the area, and here in Lost Lake, if you have three or four inches on the ground, you can ski right from the front porch around the development! If fishing and boating is your thing, Sone’s Pond, Hunter’s Lake, Lake Jean and the Susquehanna are but a short drive away. Swimming is great in Lake Jean at Rickett’s Glen State Park which also has a concession stand.
The log home has three bedrooms: a king sized bed, a queen sized bed and two bunk beds. The kitchen is fully equipped with most of the utensils, pots and pans, dishes and glasses one would find in their own home. A refrigerator/freezer, electric stove, microwave and coffee pot and electric grill are available for your use. The dining area is cheerfully lit and spacious. There are also some very good restaurants within driving distance of the cabin. The living room has a 55” flat screen TV, sofa and chairs for your comfort. Videos and music are available to watch and listen to. Though the home has electric heat as back-up, a propane furnace has been installed for the fall, winter and Spring seasons. Many people prefer the use of the wood stove with the glass door for viewing the fire for a cozy experience. The home has been whole house air conditioned for your comfort. Please exercise courtesy in setting the thermostat while there and when you are out of the cabin. A large bathroom compliments the first floor of the cabin.
There is a game room in the basement with a pool table, shuffleboard, poker table, dart board, and air hockey for entertainment. In addition, a washer and dryer are available, if needed. Quoits and horseshoes are available for outside games along with corn hole boards.
This is a non-smoking cottage and pets are not permitted. Wi-Fi and cell service are available which allows for conducting business while relaxing in a serene setting.
This property has a three (3) day minimum at present. For those interested in a stay of two weeks or longer anytime of the year, please contact me directly.Courtesy in respecting the property and your general cleaning up after ones self is expected, both in the cabin and on the grounds, and if you use the grill, you are expected to clean the grill. Upon leaving, please place bed sheets, pillow cases, bath and kitchen towels and wash cloths in the center of the bathroom floor. Please leave the cabin as you found it. Remember to replace the key in the lock box and scramble the code. I wish you a fine experience at Nickey's Nest!

Beautiful Log Cabin
This log cabin is just perfect! It is beautifully decorated and clean; the furnishings are just what you would imagine a cabin to look like! It has every amenity you could possible need! Two nice porches, a fire pit with lots of wood, a basement full of game tables, a stocked kitchen, a fireplace stove, a very nice dining area and comfortable sofas in the living area. The beds were comfortable! We cannot think of a single negative. It is located between Rickett's Glen and World's End State Parks so the location is perfect for hiking both parks! We highly recommend this property! The owner is a very nice person! David recommended a restaurant to us, and it was great! Stay here if you are in the area!!!

Lovely anniversary getaway
The cabin is well-kept, very clean and well stocked. It was a damp, cool, rainy October weekend and we played air hockey and shuffleboard in the basement and snuggled up next to the wood stove (which, by the way, was already set up to start a fire for us), and watched a movie. Plenty of wineries and a cidery to visit. Beds comfortable. In a neighborhood, but backs up to what I think are state game lands. Private, quiet. Hiked at Ricketts Glen when the rain stopped. Great in between spot to both Ricketts Glen and Worlds End State Parks. Owners are very responsive. Highly recommend.

Serene
We enjoy the quiet of Nickey's Nest and the location. We were able to explore Sullivan & Lycoming Counties this year with great hiking trails. The evening rains filled the runs and falls. This year it was even warm enough to enjoy a couple afternoons swimming at Lake Jean. High Knob Sunsets followed by ice cream at Becky's is a must! Highly recommend.

About the host

Hosted by David A. Nickey

Host profile image
I have been a life long resident of Pennsylvania. I have lived in, gone to school and college, camped, hunted, hiked and fished in the surrounding counties. Nickey's Nest was named by my first wife who passed away in 1999, from ovarian cancer. Nickey's Nest was her place to come, relax and get away from it all. I decided in 2018 to open up the home that others could enjoy the beauty and relaxation of Pennsylvania's beauty and pleasures of parks, lakes, hiking trails and general ability to just rest, away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. This is Americana, not the Poconos with so many people, traffic, commercialism and neon signs. This is an area to refresh your spirit. Enjoy!

Why they chose this property

I chose this property because it is situated between two of Pennsylvania's great State parks - World's End and Rickett's Glen. Each has it's unique features. The area provides rest and seclusion, but not isolation from the world. Should you decide to venture into a more active town or environment, it is there, if not, you will find peace in the surrounding area with its beauty of mountains, streams, lakes, farmlands, etc.

What makes this property unique

I have tried to provide most of what you would need to make your stay relaxing and memorable. You are invited to share your experience in our guest log. You need only supply your personal items and food. Several small stores either in Laporte (two miles south) or Dushore (eight miles north) most likely carry whatever you find you may additionally need.
