Thank you for sharing your lovely home! The pool was a great feature for our August visit and we loved the screened-in room. We enjoyed the Middleburg farmer market, Lost Barrel and Arterra Winery. There’s much to do in the area but we also just relaxed at the house. The full moon during our stay was awesome!

Wow! This was a PERFECT 10! The host was lovely and even took pictures of our group (with the perfect sunset when we arrived). We were 6 college best friends celebrating a very special engagement. This incredible Mill House was the perfect backdrop for our celebration. From the beautiful grounds to the gorgeous kitchen and living spaces, we fell in love with this historic property with so many thoughtful design features. Don't wait! Book it now. Light a fire and watch the leaves change. Only minutes to Middleburg. It's heavenly!

Lovely weekend at a dream property.

In town for our son’s wedding, this was home base. The property is simply gorgeous and the house was amazing. It is an older home, full of quirks and charms and we loved it. We did try the pool, the water was cold but we did it. Saw deer, horses, loved our stay.

We rent this home any chance we can!

This is my family's second time renting the Mill House - the first time was for a family wedding and the second time was for another special family event. It is the perfect home to host family and such a special place to spend a weekend.

Lovely Stay

Constance’s house in the country checked all the promised boxes: scenic property and comfortable house with plenty of space to accommodate our family group. A favorite spot was the screened pavilion, with easy couches and chaises as well as toys for the toddler. The pool and creek were also a big hit. Truly an enjoyable stay!

Great family get away weekend!

We went with our two adult children and their families. The grandsons loved playing in the creek, taking wheelbarrow rides, gathering sticks for the fire, making s’mores at the fire pit and playing ball in the large yard. The indoor fireplace is amazing. Lovely property!

Family weekend

Thank you, Constance. The house was perfect for our family weekend. All of the spaces met our needs and it was nice to convene to the screened in room and porch for after dinner time and games. We all enjoyed time in the pool! The proximity to Middleburg was just right. We hope to return again! - Slainte Mhath! -Charles

Peaceful Getway

The Mill House was the perfect place for our family to gather and celebrate our mum's milestone birthday. The peaceful, historic charm of the house and its lovely village setting reminded her of England, which made the stay even more special. The house was spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped, providing everything we needed for a relaxing stay. It offered the ideal mix of rustic charm and modern amenities, making it great for spending quality time together. We especially loved the quiet surroundings, which added to the tranquil atmosphere. Highly recommend this beautiful rental for family gatherings or a peaceful getaway!

Grandma girlfriend getaway

Prayer group that raised our kids together and have since moved away to different states … looking to gather in a retreat like setting. This fit the bill perfectly. We enjoyed going into Middleburg checking out shops, riding our bikes but the screened in “house”/porch was one of our most favorite spots to visit, catch up and pray together.

Perfect.

It was perfect for our family of 8. We were in town for a wedding and the location was very convenient to all of the places we needed to be. In our down time, we opted to relax here because it was beautiful. Great coffee and breakfast at Blue Water Market just down the street. We would definitely stay here again. We had to make a change to the reservation and Constance was super helpful and responsive. We also had questions about the wedding bus, etc., and, again, she was great.

Babymoon

My husband, three year old, and I stayed here for a long weekend just before we welcomed our second child. The property is gorgeous and the local towns and farmlands are stunning. We had fun wandering around the property and briefly in the pool (it was cold!). We had to leave a bit early to head to the hospital as I thought I went into labor, but turned out to be a false alarm. Owner was incredibly understanding and kind. Highly recommend.

Birthday celebration

Constance the host was really accomodating. I appreciated her prompt responses to any of my questions when booking and her recommendations on things to do in the area. Our family gathered for a 75th birthday celebration. There were 7 adults - it was a lovely weekend. The Mill House was a perfect location! Plenty of comfortable seating in the main area and a table to fit all of us! Other comfortable seating areas and the bedrooms were all very comfortable. The kitchens (both of them) were good sized and easy for several of us to work in at once preparing meals. The weather was great in early Oct, we enjoyed an evening by the firepit in the yard. Upperville and Middleburg were very quaint towns, we enjoyed exploring them a bit. We golfed at nearby Raspberry Falls and Bull Run golf courses, and enjoyed the VA state Arboretum another day. We had dinner one eve on the patio of at the Tavern in Upperville (very nice atmosphere, staff and food was very good) and another evening at Harriman's at Salamander Resort (very convenient and would highly recommend for a special dinner). If we want a get-away in this area again we would definately return to the Mill House.

We had such a wonderful time at the Mill House! The house and property are just lovely, even nicer than the pictures! There were three couples in our party and there was plenty of room for us. The house is so big and welcoming. There are so many places to relax both inside and outside. We enjoyed sitting outside in the evening in the screened in gazebo area as well as around the fire pit. The pool is in a beautiful setting near the babbling brook. Plenty of space and supplies to cook and grill. Constance was so communicative and helpful. We would definitely go back again! Wonderful!

About the host

Hosted by Constance Chatfield-Taylor

Host profile image
My family has lived in the area for 100 years, continually active in horses and Virginia history. I am a UVA alumna, play polo in the area, and other than living in San Francisco for 5 years in the early '80s, I am a Virginian through and through. There's work too - I am co-owner of a communications company, Flying Colors Broadcasts, in nearby Washington, DC.
The Mill House spoke to me in 2008 when I saw that it was for sale - there was just something about it, it seemed magical and as if it had a story to tell. My plate full, it did not happen, but I didn't stop thinking about it. And in 2012, it was on the market again and this time it stood up and shouted, so we bought it and brought it back to health. We had to pull up old floor boards (carefully so we could reuse), replace joists, put on a new porch, build walks and a terrace, replace appliances, expose interior stone walls - and yes, fix the magical pool.
It now is available for others to experience the Mill House magic.

Why they chose this property

My sons and I play polo in the area, and its a great jumping off point for anything in the country. Pantherskin Creek is captivating and the Mill House is the kind of place that simply 'pulls you outside', whether its to walk near the creek during the full moon, to sit at the pool watching fireflies, or to sit by the fire pit, which is in the location of the original well.
Its an 'any season' house, the great room in the winter is large and comfortable with the kitchen at one end. The stone kitchen at the end of the porch is heaven in summer, with a wall of windows and cool stone floors. Its a place to bring people together, and explore the countryside or just stay on the property. Friends have come out with extensive plans, but have decided to swim, read and sit on the porch, saying 'we'd rather stay right here...'

What makes this property unique

It has a low water bridge over Pantherskin Creek, which is high in spring and summer, low in August. You'll find yourself taking a 'coffee walk' in the morning, it just happens. And summer lunches on the screened porches are wonderful. There are so many places to read, visit, or just enjoy. You can occasionally hear the horses over the fence, or trumpet swans flying overhead in the spring. The sounds and light and views are restful and peaceful.
