About this property

Waterfront (Sugar Island) home, with Pontoon Boat!!

This waterfront home is perfect for your "Up North Retreat". Not only does it come with a Pontoon boat for your use, but it is a 3-bedroom, tri-level home with a lot of living space and a great fire pit area.
Located on the Northeast side of Sugar Island, on the St. Mary's River (by the Mouth of Lake George). This house is in the middle of other properties known as "The Sugar Suite" (Same owners and that listing is VRBO #475245) and The Nest. Each of these properties are 2 houses down (about 250 feet), so perfect accommodations for a large group!
Do you want to bring your boat? You are more than welcome! In fact, there is a DNR boat launch about a mile or so from this location, so putting it in the water once you arrive at the Island House will not be an issue and we have room for you to park your trailer! If you plan to use the Pontoon boat (holds 1000 lbs) between Memorial Day - Labor Day, please bring life jackets (all children 12 and Under must be wearing their life jackets at all times - US Coast Guard regulation). We make sure the pontoon boat is full of gas for your arrival, and though we can help you get more gas if needed, we do prefer you have it full again before you leave. Thank you!
We'll provide all of the linens, but expect you to bring your own paper products.
If you possess your Michigan Fishing License, than you can not only use your own boat, or the pontoon boat for fishing, but you also have the option of booking a charter fishing trip just 1 dock down (Blue Heron Fishing Charter). Let us know if you are interested and we'll help you reserve your trip with the captain next door.
We have a hose for your use, so if you have your own fish cleaning station, bring it and you can hook up to the hose!
Please, let us know if you have any questions! We'll do our best to accommodate special requests!

Great place but plan on bringing gas for the boat, gas for the grill, and the boat turned off and on and didn’t run the whole time.

A fun stay

It was a great getaway for the family. The pontoon was a great option to have. The out side of the property could use some up keep and the cleanness of the inside could be improved. But it is a nice property and nice location. We really enjoyed it! Great communication with the property owners! Would stay again for sure!

Fishing trip

Had a wonderful vacation with husband, mother-in-law, son & daughter-in-law. House was perfect, clean, comfortable, spacious and exactly, as advertised. Many mishaps that were out of owners control; however communication with owners was excellent. Owners went above and beyond to help mitigate issues as they arose.

Great Vacation Home

My family and I stayed at the "Sugar Island House" for 5 nights. This was the most relaxing house we ever stayed in on Sugar Island. We had everything that we needed in the house and the fishing was good all week. Laurie and Scott were great hosts and were very easy to get ahold of. Looking forward to returning to this rental sometime next year.

Peaceful Island Getaway

Overall, we had a nice family stay at the Sugar Island house. Nice big kitchen, equipped with all the necessities. Beautiful view of the river. Easy access to Lake George. Lots of wildlife- we got to watch Eagles, ducks and heard the loons and an owl. Thankfully we did not encounter any bears. Nice and peaceful. The ferry was efficient every time we crossed. I could get used to Isand life. Thank you!

Decent stay

Inside updating was good The back porch smelled like mold/dirty Outside of the house needs work. Thought it was a little overpriced for the amount t of clean up we needed to do before leaving.

Relaxing

Overall nice place, outside needs a little love. The towels were put away damp. Needed rewashed and dryer. No propane in the gas grill and needed cleaned. Basement smelled musty may be from the missing gutter on the roof right above it.

Wonderful Island Getaway

We very much enjoyed our weekend in the Soo on Sugar Island. Very peaceful. The house was awesome. The kitchen is beautiful and has everything you can imagine. I mean everything. I’ve never seen a Vrbo kitchen with so many things. We appreciate it. The house was very clean. Beds are comfy. Two bedrooms with king beds and a third with two twin beds. Huge living room with giant sofa in the basement. The rental also has a pontoon with it. It is a bit dated but we had the best day on it. So much fun. Ran very well. No issues at all. Wonderful communication with the host. Will definitely rent here again. A+

A wonderful stay

The house was perfect for us and our 3 teens. Plenty of space to spread out on those rainy days(which we always seem to get on our vacations!). The beds.....seriously the most comfortable ones weve ever slept on. All of us said that the first morning lol. Kitchen was huge. Had everything we needed. We loved having the boat. Was very fun to explore. The car ferry runs very frequenty so anytime we wanted to run over we barely had to wait. It was nice even just going to the car ferry lot to watch the freighters and the fireworks. If you go to watch the freighters youll get a salute since rotary park (and clydes yummm) is right across the water. The host was super fast and responsive and all our questions were answered quickly. She was great! Wifi and cable was very reliable and never went out (if you need that kind of thing for work or something). Being so close to Canada was fun and watching their police and coast guard patrol as well as ours was neat. Just hoping we get one last vacation in next summer before all our kiddos are grown! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

About the host

Host profile image
Both from the Eastern Upper Peninsula, my husband is an "Islander" born and raised and this is the house he grew up in and his father built!
We truly love the beauty this area has to offer and of course, being on the water is an added bonus!

Why they chose this property

This is our favorite place to be in the summer and that's why we want to share it with others!
We also own the Sugar Suite (2 houses down, #475245), which was built by his grandfather!
To say we will always be connected to the North East side of Sugar Island is a very true statement! :)

What makes this property unique

The Pontoon! WE offer the use of a pontoon boat (not anything fancy, but nonetheless, a boat with a new motor!) with our rentals! It's included in your stay, we just ask that you either pay us for gas, or fill it up before you leave (it will have a full tank when you arrive).
