About this property

Pretty Farmhouse w/ AGA Cooker - 2 Master Suites - 3 Miles to Great Barrington

Enjoy your summer, fall, winter and spring at this 4 bedroom/3.5 bath folk Victorian farmhouse with wrap-around porch in North Egremont. This house has just been renovated and invokes an English garden vintage charm updated for modern lifestyles.

The great country kitchen features an English cream-colored AGA 4-oven cooker, 4-foot Subzero fridge, apron-front Franke sink, KitchenAid dishwasher, soapstone countertops and cherry cabinets. From the kitchen sink are views out to the field beyond. There's an eat-in breakfast table, as well as a larger dining table in the bay window in the den. The living room has a Jotul gas stove for chilly nights, and the den has an over-stuffed couch and a large TV with DVD player (inside the 1800s butler pantry) and an upright grand piano. Through the secondary entrance is a mudroom with a powder room, large cast iron sink and new Samsung front-load washer and dryer.

The guest suite/office downstairs has a full bed and a stand-alone claw foot tub with shower ring. It opens onto the glass porch with sitting area to view the private back yard.

The upstairs master suite features a king bed and vaulted ceiling, and French doors lead to the large master bath with double vanities and a clawfoot tub. The two other bedrooms have two twin beds each and a full bathroom in between them. There are steam heat radiators throughout the house, and, of course, Wi-Fi. The cell phone carrier is AT&T, which gets the best reception. A home phone is available, also.

Outside is the front and side porch with seating, and the backyard has a vegetable garden and fruit bushes. The neighborhood has a village-feel, so the house is set back about 40 feet from the road, with abundant space in the back for playing, swinging or roasting marshmallows by the fire pit.

You're 3 miles from Great Barrington's Main Street and around the corner to the magical Berkshire Waldorf School!

If you'd like even more of a country experience, feel free to come down the road a mile to meet our chickens and sheep!

Great place for a family! Classic farmhouse with plenty of space
My family and I had a great stay here this summer. We enjoyed the location - close to downtown GB - as well as the property. The house conveys a feeling of living in a farmhouse a century ago, albeit one with modern conveniences like a/c and tv. I have to admit, the AGA cooker took some getting used to, but it's really neat. The owners are super easy-going and helpful. All in, a terrific experience in (my favorite part of) the Berkshires.

Family retreat in the Berkshires
Plenty of space inside and out, outdoor firepit and grill, good wifi connections, close to enticements of Great Barrington other Berkshire attractions. We were six, enjoyed trying to cook on an Aga; our hosts were helpful when needed. House a bit weathered, and location was not far from a road that could be busy, but all in all we were happy.

Winter ski house for family and friends
We rented this house for five weeks during the winter to primarily use as a base for skiing. It was very spacious for our family of five, allowing us to have room for a few friends to stay with us. We really enjoyed the open kitchen/dining/living area and 3.5 bathrooms. Mickey and Elisa were very responsive to any questions/issues and were available as hosts.

Comfortable and spacious farmhouse
We loved spending the weekend in this house. It was clean and spacious. The heart of the house is the open kitchen with a beautiful view to the back of the property. Cooking on the Aga was a fantastic experience. This property is centrally located making easy to visit many different areas. The hosts were great, though we didn’t have any reason to reach out as everything was perfect. We hope to return in the future.

About the host

Host profile image
We're a husband and wife with five kids who live on a Berkshire homestead with two cats, 1 dog, 14 chickens, 5 sheep. We lived all over the country (Northern California, Dallas, Manhattan, Long Island, Houston, Brooklyn) before finding the perfect place to put down roots - the Berkshires. The natural beauty, the people, the values, the activities, the history, the architecture, the proximity to NYC - these are the reasons we visited, and then never wanted to leave!

Why they chose this property

We are a young family with a love of old houses and country living. We fell in love with the Berkshires while renting a vacation home here in 2011, and we moved up from Park Slope, Brooklyn to live here full-time in 2012. We knew we wanted to live in Egremont because it is just outside Great Barrington, close to our children's private school and has a remote feeling. We passed this house everyday and saw that it was vacant and falling into disrepair. It had been an inn (early 1900s), a sandwich shop (1930s) and a 2-family home (1940s), and the family we bought it from had owned it since the 1920s! We are proud to have saved the structure and brought it back to life for many to enjoy.

What makes this property unique

Its proximity to Great Barrington.
The AGA.
Its porches.
The master suite.
Its country charm!
