My husband and I enjoyed our stay. This home’s location is close enough walk to downtown Fairhope, the pier and the beach at the bay.Three bedrooms were just right for my son, his friend and her 4year old when they came for a long weekend. The backyard was just right for our dog and a 4 y.o. boy.
We needed a place to stay as we closed on our new home and this was perfect. The location was quiet and great for walks to the bay and downtown Fairhope. It has everything you need in the kitchen and the space was perfect. Rebecca was a great host and the welcome basket was a nice touch. We were able to learn the area quite well, I highly recommend a stay here.
The location and offerings of this cottage are perfect for us and our pup. We can walk anywhere along the bay or into town and Findlay can enjoy the rest of her day watching squirrels in the fenced back yard. Rebecca is always helpful and fast to respond whenever we have a question. Really grateful to be able to spend a few months here each year.
We immediately felt at home in this little house. The location is perfect as we were just blocks from the pier and downtown. Our pup was in heaven as she watched the wildlife in the fenced backyard.
Rebecca is an absolute gem. She was quick to respond to booking request, date changes, and questions.
All in all, we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more and look forward to returning.
The little house is very comfortable and nicely furnished. Very quickly, it felt like home. It's wonderfully located between the bay and downtown. We often walked to the bay and biked to town. The owners and check-in/out are very easy to work with. We especially appreciated that the bathrooms were already stocked with soap, paper, etc., and the kitchen was so well furnished. That and the gift basket the owners had for us upon arrival were lovely surprises. For just me and my husband, it was a bit more space than we needed with the three bedrooms, but simply closed those bedroom doors and loved our stay. We would love to stay here again.
This cottage is in a super friendly, great walking, quiet neighborhood. Depending how fast you walk, you can be at the Municipal Dock on the Mobile Bay in about 10 minutes. You can also walk into the charming town of Fairhope. Lots of shops and restaurants are available. Make sure you go into The Fairhope Historical Museum and spend some time because it is definitely worth it.
The cottage has everything you will need for a comfortable stay, so no worries there.
Your host, Rebecca is outstanding! She quickly responds to your phone calls, texts, and emails through VRBO. SUPER NICE!
We stayed for 2.5 months while we escaped our Ohio winter and couldn't have been happier.
Try it, you will like it.

Thank you Barb! We LOVED having you guys! It was our pleasure. We hope you come back soon!
We had a lovely stay at this home. The location is unmatched for families who want proximity to the bay and downtown. Both were walkable with a stroller and child on a scooter. Plus, the cul de sac was great for young children on bikes. The house was well equipped and had nice, modern finishes in kitchen and bathrooms.
This property is in the perfect location for all the things to do around Fairhope. It was very comfortable and had everything you needed for an extended stay. We would love to stay here again.
We stayed an enjoyable month in November. Property is in a perfect location to enjoy the bay and the downtown by short walks. Friendly neighbors. Very safe neighborhood, quiet and relaxing.
We could not be any happier with our stay. The house is extremely nice, clean, and close to everything! Rebecca was a perfect host as well. Would recommend this home to anyone!
We loved our month long stay! The house is very charming, clean, and well-appointed. The owners are very communicative and clearly take pride in the home and providing their guests with a nice experience.
Our young boys loved walks in the neighborhood, riding their scooters around the the cul de sac, and playing in the yard.
The location can't be beat; it's so convenient to town, restaurants, parks for the kiddos, and the bay. The neighbors were friendly and the street is very quiet.
It's an all around great property!
This place shows up on my VRBO page under the heading "Properties I Love" and that is absolutely accurate. We have stayed here twice and would gladly return. It's cozy for 2, when just my husband and I are there, yet roomy enough to accomodate 5 adults when our family comes to visit. The fenced backyard provides quiet and privacy, also a great doggie spot. The location could not be better, in a lovely old neighborhood, just a couple blocks from the pier and very convenient to downtown Fairhope. The owners are great too! This place feels just like home.

Spring time in Fairhope
We had an amazing springtime visit in southern Alabama. The house is lovely and perfectly located to both Mobile Bay and town center. We walked everywhere with our dogs enjoying the local restaurant spots and meeting such friendly people. Fairhope's museum and Center for the Arts are so worth visiting.
We look forward to another visit next spring.

You may not want to leave...
We stayed a month at this cute little cottage and could not have been more pleased. At first glance it does seem like a "little cottage" but the open floor plan is actually quite roomy - we had 5 adults staying for a week and never felt cramped for space. Plus there is a large back yard with privacy fence, perfect for lounging away an afternoon with drinks and a dog.
The location is ideal! At the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in a perfectly beautiful old neighborhood, great for leisurely walks. It's just a couple blocks from the bay, and maybe 1/2 mile into downtown Fairhope, both walks we made frequently.
Also: comfy beds, nice linens and towels, very tasteful Coastal Living mag style decor throughout. The kitchen is pretty well equipped with the basics. After the first week or so we started to think of the place as home and were genuinely sorry to leave.
One word about our hostess, Rebecca. She could not have been more gracious and accommodating. She responded to every message right away. We had one or two (completely unavoidable) issues early on, and she took care of everything quickly and efficiently. And of course the welcome basket of local treats (not forgetting the dog!) was much appreciated. Thanks Rebecca!

About the host
Hosted by Rebecca Strell Roberts
Owners William and Vickie Strell split their time between Murrells Inlet, South Carolina and Fairhope, Alabama. The couple has been married for 44 years and have two children and two grandchildren. They love to travel and have been all over the world, but are proud to say one of their favorite destinations is charming Fairhope, Alabama.
Why they chose this property
The Strells purchased The Deferriet Cottage in 2017 to be closer to their two young grandchildren. They spent six months renovating the cottage from the ground up. William and Vickie loved how quiet and serene the property is while also being within walking distance of both the Mobile Bay and downtown Fairhope shops and restaurants.
