About this property
Cottage Apartment In The Heart Of The Beautiful Village Of Eus
We offer comfortable, 'traditional' but contemporary accommodation in the gorgeous countryside of this region. The apartment comprises a queen double bedroom off the living/dining/kitchen area. A bathroom with a full-size, powerful shower makes the third room. There is a private terrace/garden to the rear, with space to relax, and a garden table-and-chairs to take the indoors out. In the living room there is a 43" TV serviced with France's Orange network, as well as a DVD player and a small DVD library. A fast, wireless internet connection is available to keep your digital devices connected and for streaming shows on the TV. Quite rare but sometimes a necessary luxury in Eus, a village often touted "the sunniest in France", there is air conditioning in the living room and bedroom. You will appreciate it on the hottest days in July and August! Ceiling fans are also installed to keep you refreshed. A fully equipped kitchen with cooker, stove top and microwave will allow you to indulge a little ‘cuisine française' if the mood should take you. The small village of Eus is officially recognised as one of 'Les Plus Beau Villages de France' on account of its stunning location and well kept 'old world' quaintness. The narrow alleyways are fringed with exotic plants and flowers, and you can see that the locals take a great deal of pride in their lovely village. There are several artists and crafts people who live and work in Eus, and their products are available right from their workshops and galleries or in the craft-shop in the village square. If your appetite for local crafts is not satisfied here, there is a larger selection in the nearby, fortified village of Villefranche de Conflent. Eus is a popular destination in summer and is served by a growing number of cafes and eateries popular with the locals, many with commanding views of the surrounding mountains. Dining experiences further afield in Rousillon-Conflent are as varied as the countryside and its people and you will discover why the region is famed for its fusion of Catalan, French and Mediterranean cuisine. Close by is the market town of Prades, where supermarkets and other essential services are to be found, and famously plays host to the annual Pablo Casals music festival in July/August. Browsing the stalls of the busy Tuesday market and a local farmers market on Saturday are must-do’s in the town square of Prades. Try the assortment of cheeses and other locally produced delicacies! Indeed, there is so much for the visitor to enjoy in Eus and the surrounding area. For those on a cultural visit, there is rich history to be found in the many villages of the Conflent and beyond. The region is an important wine producer and if that interests you, there are several vineyards that offer tours and tastings. Mountain sports from walking or mountain-biking in the hills and valleys, to rafting or canyoneering the many rivers and tributaries are all on offer here in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The major ski resorts of Font-Romeu and Les Angles are less than an hour away by car or bus. Take a scenic train ride to the mountains on the famous 'little yellow train' and eat delicious crepes in one of the many bars and restaurants of the fortress town of Mont-Louis. There is simply too much to do and to see in this stunningly beautiful and unspoiled area to give it justice here, better to go explore for yourself and you will see why the few who have discovered this tiny corner of France, always vow to return!

The village and the apartment are both amazing. If I hosted a VRBO, I would try to match the attention to detail, convenience and comfort we found here. A truly wonderful visit, and we hope to return!

Many thanks for the kind words, John. We try to keep everything as we'd want to find it ourselves for a self-catering vacation. So glad you enjoyed your stay, and of course you are welcome back, anytime!
This is a wonderful place to stay. The property itself is very well equipped and has everything you need. But it's the view it gives you of the nearby mountains and the village of Eus itself that are so special and which make this somewhere I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a holiday in the French Pyrenees.
A very beautiful and romantic village and house.
There is a well equiped kitchen and a wonderful view to the Canigou mountain.
For everyone who loves rest and beauty.
The apartment is absolutely beautiful and the view of the mountains amazing. Eus is a cute little village with friendly inhabitants. The neighbors' cat and dog visited us in the garden frequently and played with us :) (they're polite animals and won't bother you if you don't want to though) the mattress is super comfy and the E-Piano is the cherry on top.

About the host
Hosted by Stewart Monteith
The owners are Stacy and Stewart Monteith. We are probably best described as an 'international' couple, Stacy is from the U.S. and Stewart is from the UK. We met and married in Kuwait where, amongst other far-flung places we have been teaching in schools for most of our careers. We now live in Florida, again teaching for a living but now more 'grounded' and intentionally, here to stay, at least for now!
Why they chose this property
Our Eus(ful) house was bought in 2005 to provide a 'summer home' when on school holidays and as a possible place to spend our retirement. Originally, it was one house that was converted into two flats by a previous owner. We have kept it that way, but have completely redesigned and remodeled the interior and added more windows, put on a new roof and installed new floors and floor beams in both apartments, and of course had a complete rewiring and new plumbing. The outside areas and the 'cave' have also been given a complete overhaul from the rather 'utilitarian' condition in which they were found. The renovation took 3 years but we have ended up with a property that has all the convenience and practicality of a modern home, but blends perfectly with the charming, old stone buildings of the village. We take great pride in our 'new, old' house and hope our guests will enjoy it as much as we do.
What makes this property unique
Eus is possibly the most picturesque village in the conflent valley and irresistibly draws the eye as one drives along the road into the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains. When we were seeking a property to use a s a holiday/retirement home in the area, we never thought it would be possible to find a house in Eus available for sale. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate that there was indeed something for sale and furthermore, a cute little house that we fell in love with at first sight. We are very happy to share that good fortune with our guests, who have always expressed a similar appreciation for the time they have spent in this magical location, in our home-from-home in Eus.
