A down to earth 4 bedroom, 2 bath home nestled in the woods that features 2 large gathering rooms (one is a theater room) and a huge covered front porch. There is a full kitchen and two separate eating areas. We also have an external gameroom/hangout in our big red barn called the Hideout Saloon.
The main part of the house was built by my grandad in 1946.
The trim around the doors and windows are all made from aged pine that he had saved in the 1950's.
We have central air and heat.
There is a 4 foot fire ring perfect for cooking, making s'mores, or just relaxing. There is a washer and dryer for your use.
We have a charcoal grill for you to use...bring your own charcoal and starter fluid.
There is a tankless water heater so you can take back to back showers. Sorry no bathtubs.
Come relax and just chill. The sandy beach is only a mile away as is the rest of town or relax on our 42ft covered porch
Firewood is available to use if it is in the shed. If not, then Jack can deliver a full cord of oak if you desire for around $80. Please contact him directly prior to your stay and mention that you are staying at Hideout in the Woods. 989-370-0822. He is cash only and can dump the wood right by the firepit.
The Hideout Saloon is now open and equipped with a pool table, dart board, foosball, sound system, player piano, and custom made bar. This space can be heated by 2 propane heaters that we provide along with the tanks. You are responsible for the propane. Make sure you checkout the pictures. Please note that the Hideout Saloon is available to you, but please do not review us on its cleanliness as it lives in the woods in an old pole barn.

Hideout in the woods is great. Steve is great and responds quickly to any questions. This is our second time staying. Great place for our large group of friends for our winter trip. We enjoyed hanging out in the barn playing pool, darts and foosball. The propane heaters were very helpful.
This place was tucked into the woods, but was such a great location and close to town. Very private. I stayed there with family while in town for a wedding. We had plenty of room. Communication with the host was easy and smooth. We would definitely stay again.
We literally utilized every amenity, from the house to the movie room, to the lovely front porch and fire ring, we had steak dinner on the fire pit grill and the hideout salloon was a total blast! We played all the games danced for hours. We most definitely will be back. Close to everything there is to do in Oscoda.
My extended family and I were in the area for a wedding and needed a place that could house 6 adults and 7 kids ranging in age from 1-7. This was a great find and we loved utilizing the outdoor fire pit.
Brought in the New Year around the fire ring and enjoyed games in the saloon. Bathrooms/Shower was nice. The location of the cabin to town was very convenient.
Great location and room for everyone and everything you need
A wonderful property with space for the whole family and then some! We enjoyed the bonus of the saloon and spent a great time playing the games in there. Absolutely loved the privacy of being in the woods and the trails get not far from stores and the towns. Comfortble beds and plenty of places to sit and relax.
Lots of room for our 9 family members, our dog, and for local family to visit. It’s a clean and comfortable place with all the amenities you’d need. We enjoyed the fire pit, Saloon, and what a media room!! We were very close to stores, restaurants and such too. Thank you Steve!
We love to stay in this absolutely comfortable and large in space house, Very clean, nice inside decoration, soft memory foam matrasses and big pillows. We had fun in saloon and outside by the fire pit. Definitely recommended !!!!
The house was very spacious, but we still spent most of our time on the covered front porch and yard. Plenty of room for our family to spread out if they chose. Plenty of the essentials are stocked (tp, shower supplies, etc). Very much appreciated
We absolutely loved our stay. It was clean and so much space for everyone. Although we didn't get a chance to hang out in the barn we did check it out. The porch may have been one of our favorite places huge and covered so you could enjoy the storms we had while there.
I really enjoyed my stay at the hideout in the woods. I was there for my brothers bachelor party, and we had a decent size group. The main house was super clean. It was the perfect size for all of us to get good nights sleep. The real star of the place was the barn that was converted into a mock saloon. There was pool, darts, fusball, and other games. The two propane heaters kept us warm in near freezing temperatures. We spent most of our time in there just having a good time. If you are looking for a secluded cabin with easy going entertainment, then this is the place for you
The host was very communicative, there were helpful notes posted around the house, the history is cool, and there was plenty of space for all of us. I really appreciate that we were all able to bring our dogs along. It was close to town and the beach but still felt a little secluded. The porch was amazing. The ONLY thing my family had to say was they wished the grass had been cut around the porch area since it's tick season (one tick found on the kid's shoulder). We also couldn't find any kitchen towels but might not have looked hard enough. Kitchen was pretty well stocked otherwise!
We had a goos time here. The place was very cute and it had a old house feel(because it is). The layout was somewhat confusing but we liked that about the place! The barn was fun and so was the scavenger hunt they provided. Easy check in. The projector room was angood time too. Would recommend :)

Why they chose this property
My great great grandfather came to Oscoda from Saginaw in 1853. There was not much going on. He later returned in 1862 and established the farm in 1864. This cabin is built on the same spot as the one the family built that burned down in 1911 with the two towns Au Sable and Oscoda burned to the ground.
The majority of the renovations were done by my wife, my kids, and myself. We spent nearly 2 years driving up every weekend to work on it.
At one point, the family owned several hundred acres of land and had a cattle farm on it. some of the old fence can still be found as you walk around.
What makes this property unique
We have a super large covered porch perfect for rainy days or watching the thunderstorms at night.
Our Hideout Saloon is our own creation that is our take on a Wild West Saloon that you would have found in the Northwoods. It features a custom made bar, pool table, foosball, darts, player piano, and sound system. This is available to you at no extra charge.
We offer two large gathering rooms. One has a projector and bluray player. Both are equipped with sound systems.
All of the log begs were hand built by us. We felled the trees, dragged them to the house, de-barked them, and created each bed to be unique.
The large barn style doors and the trim in the house were from wood that my granddad pulled from the river and store to use one day. He passed away in 1957 never getting the chance to use them. I am sure he would be proud that we finally used them on the cabin.
My wife built the large table from extra floor boards we found in the attic while remodeling to commemorate the family heritage we have up there.
