Very nice, but not what advertised.

A really lovely and enjoyable place, but not a 2-bedroom unit, as advertised. It is actually a 1-bedroom unit, and that bedroom was locked off from our use, so we actually had only one HALF bedroom : a loft without a door or real closet. We did briefly look at the unit before moving in, so we are somewhat to blame for being taken by its charm and failing to realize how it wasn’t what was advertised. Gina did usefully negotiate with us over another issue, but refused to open up the one actual bedroom, so it's a gross representation to advertise it as a 2 bedroom unit that sleeps four! Because we were upset at this, we found ourselves dissatisfied with other things that otherwise we'd let slide: several of the kitchen cabinets were filled with their food products that we don’t use, the t.v. has many Asian language stations but no stations (for example, CNN, any sports station, etc.) that we watch, there is no baking pans, etc. Put together with the bedroom issue, we concluded that Gina was not focused on accommodating to her guests. With it being listed differently, people who chose to rent it would probably be quite happy with it.

Richard was aware that the bottom bedroom is locked when he previewed our vacation condo before making reservations. Even after making reservation, I allow him to back out if he has issues with the downstairs bedroom locked. I told him we have another family next in line who wants to reserve it if he doesn’t and it is okay if he cancels his reservation without penalty. However, Richard went ahead and book it for 3 people (He, his wife, and adult son) which we can accommodate. We’ve had a family of 4 stayed in the condo for 3 months. But when Richard’s daughter, forth unpaid adult person, wants to sleep over, of course it is a little tight and he starts to have issues with the locked bedroom downstairs. Basically, Richard negotiated cheap down to $30 per night per person. His 4th occupant was not registered on the reservation and was unpaid. The condo is 1,000 SF and has a spacious open floor plan with an open loft bedroom upstairs. If Richard is upset with the “locked” bedroom, he still went on and renew his reservation three more times. I told him that we have plenty of takers on our property and would only host guests who truly want to stay in our vacation condo because it is a condo we truly love and also use. It is not a rental for us. I gave him an out each and every time to back down and I have reservation requests from others but Richard proceeded to renew the reservation from October to January and from January to March and from March to April. Richard never relayed his other disappointments throughout his stay at our condo. We did not have cable on the TV but all local channels. Bay Area has a lot of Asian channels which is not something I can control. Currently, we updated to Apple TV which comes with Netflix and other cable channels. As for baking pans, I am not a baker so I don’t equip my home with baking pans. I refunded his security deposit 100% without first checking to make sure all items and everything is in place because Richard hurried me saying he needs the money to leave United States. I come to find that this family stole all my expensive set of sushi knives, ceramic knives and set of cutting boards. Each knife is $100 a piece. They destroyed my little girl’s shelves in the upstairs bedroom. They left the place filthy and dirty dishes in the cupboard. I was not able to visit the condo after they left so I took his word when he said they left the place clean. I had to hire a cleaning crew to clean up after this family. Richard is not honest in his review of the place. If he is not happy with it and I gave him opportunities to cancel without penalty anytime but he proceeded to make the reservation even after a preview of the property in person and renewed it three times and stayed for 6 months. I wish he was more honest and upfront with us. This is our home, we don’t just rent out to anyone. They seemed like a nice couple initially but when they took in their second adult kid in our condo (the 4th unpaid person) that’s when he starts have problem with our closed downstairs bedroom. The condo is tight for 4 adults. Yes, I understand that they did not want to let go of the reservation due to a spectacular waterfront view and all the amenities for their adult son but I wished Richard has taken my offer to let him back out because we had plenty of takers from another platform.

An Oasis

My partner and I stayed here for a month and got to know the area well. It is SO peaceful and beautiful. The unit's private porch overlooks the cutest little canal - you're basically about 20' away - with ducks and turtles and a fountain, and the most beautiful trees that sway in the wind. When you lie in bed at the end of the day and the afternoon light filters through the branches outside the window and you hear all the birdsong, well, it is glorious. After a whole day in the hustle and bustle of San Francisco or driving up to Napa etc, to come back here is a huge sigh of relief. Loved that feeling of a private oasis. The unit itself is safe, clean and very well equipped. We wanted for nothing. It has all the amenities. I love a great shower with enough water pressure, and I had it here. The back porch has a couple of comfortable chairs and we'd often find ourselves sitting out there enjoying a beer or glass of wine at the end of the day, or coffee in the morning. My partner loves to work out, yoga and strength (bands), and she really enjoyed being able to do it outside on the porch, getting into her zone in the California sun and breeze. Angeline was a fantastic host and she made a HUGE difference to our stay. She gave us a ton of good advice, things to do in the immediate area and also things to do throughout the region. Advice ranging from ferry rides, to hiking, to bike riding, to places to go shopping. - everything!! She was also highly responsive. If I sent her a question, she'd be back to us almost immediately. And one final thing on the amazing host meter. We are both involved in heavy graphic design work for a living and are intensive users of bandwidth. Angeline arranged for Comcast to provide us a new modem with an ultra high speed connection so that we could both work simultaneously and effectively. That was huge. I wouldn't hesitate to return and feel like I really lucked out finding this place. Unqualified thumbs-up!
