I was torn about renting this place, past reviews sounded great. The most recent review was not so good. On entry the property smelled musty and moldy. There were dead flies on the floor and live flies inside the home. The sheets were old and worn. I had an allergic reaction from the moldy air and we left after an hour. When I contacted the owner I requested a cancellation of our second and third nights. The response was there had been a lot of rain lately and they were not responsible for my medical conditions. They refused our request for any refund. There are beautiful places to stay in Evora and Monsaraz and the Alentejo Region is spectacular.

We were not informed that the guests needed special conditions.
A house that is closed has always the possibility of must smell, inofensible for normal guests but dangerous for some illnesses.
We understand Tamara situation but we have guests in the same house now who have no problem with odors.Flies are usual at the countryside. We have to put an aparatus on. The aparatus is in every room of the house.
It was a pontual situation, we agree, but it cannot be seen as usual.
Guests sometimes complain to be refunded as their plans changed so we never know.
I am really sorry about Tamara illness

Not as advertised in a castle. No WiFi at the time due to storm? Rooms dusty. Linens were worn.
Disappointed by the castle adventure which is misrepresented in the description since the apartment is modern. Linens were old. Dusty rooms and smoke smell throughout. Big kitchen and great modern shower!

Magnifique vacance

Lovely stay near castle
We stayed in Maria's house for 5 days. It is beautiful house and well equipped. there is loads of light and beautiful courtyard overlooking the old tower from the castle . Peaceful and quiet we enjoyed sitting outside -all you can hear there is the birds and the bells from the church tower. It is located opposite Enoteca where you can try the best wines from the region. The supermarket is 5 min down the hill and about 4 bars and restaurants within 2 minutes walk. Maria welcomed us warmly and was very helpful. Would definitely stay there again. Missing the place already

About the host

We are the type of people who travel NOT to take selfies but to know specific places and people. We intend to analyse the footprints of those who came before us and remain in each place of the world that we visit. We dont prefer 5 star hotels to show our friends photos of luxury places but only if we look for very comfortable places. To visit a site is, for us, to capture the soul of the place, people and have a glimpse of their art and story.
Why they chose this property
We inheritd this house from our family ancestors. It belonga us since 2 and half centuries. It was completely destroyed and recently rebuilt for the fourth time, now according with the law that protects Portuguese Heritage. The type of building comes from the XVIII century but it offers the comfort of a house. Stone, clay and wood are traditional building materials tipical of the region.
