Welcome to Highland Mist – you will be so impressed with the unique “top of the world” views in this custom Banner Elk home you will find it difficult to leave. This large lodge is located on a lofty hill with 180-degree views into North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. No matter the season you visit, the bucolic scene includes rolling hills, high mountain peaks, and deep valleys that will simply delight and help you unwind. Simply put, nature's bounty is your closest neighbor here in this special place.
This gorgeous, custom mountain cabin is certain to impress you, with its vast exposed beams, lofty ceilings, rustic trusses, and so many other elegant features and extra details especially designed for your comfort. From the moment you enter the door, you are inspired by its ambience of mountain style, complemented by the great room's cathedral ceiling and uniquely refined lodge decor.
You're our special guest here, so the great room warmly welcomes you, with plenty of fine leather furniture and over-stuffed seating, massive wood-burning stone fireplace, exposed logs, and large flat screen TV with DirecTV streaming services for live viewing. Cooking will be a pleasure for you, not a duty, in this elegant chefs' kitchen, complete with granite counters and large island with seating, and it includes all the modern implements for preparing delicious meals. Your group will gather to “break bread” and then stay to chat at the large wooden dining table with comfortable seating, lighted by the warm glow of the unique chandelier.
Most guests find themselves drawn outside to the spacious decks spanning the length of the lodge to view the mountains, an integral part of Highland Mist's attraction. Gather on the upholstered, comfortable outdoor seating around the outside stone-faced fireplace on the large covered deck and share quality time with friends and family while basking in the fire's glow. The large modern grill is the ideal spot for cooking tonight's feast, and you can even dine al fresco, mountain style at the outdoor dining table.
Ready to unwind? Walk down the large hallway on the main level and find the spacious master bedroom, decorated with an outdoor theme and with large windows to wake up to the amazing view, or fall asleep with the stars. You will be delighted by the inviting king bed and private tiled bathroom with walk-in shower and separate tub.
No detail for your comfort has been spared in Highland Mist, with its fine furnishings, and many wonderful details. A loft with large windows to view the far away mountains provides plenty of comfortable seating , a perfect place to curl up with a good book. The two upstairs bedrooms both have their own full baths as well, with a king bed in one and two twins in the other.
The lower level family room will keep the fun coming, with flat-screen TV, pool table and foosball table. The fourth bedroom is also on this level, with handcrafted custom queen size log bed and there is also a queen sleeper sofa for the extra guest, and fourth full bath. Step outside and enjoy the deluxe hot tub with its picturesque views of the woods and multi-layered mountains, and the night's deep darkness here will tempt you to bask in the shine of the nearby stars. On summer evenings, gather around the firepit and tell tall tales while roasting hot dogs and making s'mores.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: - All BRMR homes offer well stocked kitchens with all utensils needed to cook meals. There is also a "starter set" of paper products at the house: a roll of toilet paper per bath, several garbage bags, a small vial of dishwashing liquid, a few tablets of dishwasher detergent, some laundry pods, a roll of paper towels, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and some makeup remover cloths. There are enough of these items for one night, or maybe two. We do not provide hair dryers. Towels and linens will be provided - Check in is after 4pm and check out is by 10am - Must electronically sign an additional Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions and any Neighborhood Rules sent by Host (property manager) or entry information cannot be sent. - Must be at least 25 years old to reserve. This person is required to be the person signing the agreement and must be one of the persons staying in the property for the reserved dates. - No smoking inside the home. No trace of smoking left outside the home. - Do not leave food or trash outside as it could attract animals. All trash must be bagged and placed in the trash receptacle indicated in the Welcome Book inside the house or your digital guidebook. - No parties or gatherings above the posted occupancy allowed at any time. Keep outside noise respectable. - Highland Mist has paved access for all but the last .7 miles. 4WD/AWD and/or chains recommended during winter (Nov-March) for all homes. Travelers visiting during the winter months where inclement weather may be possible should come prepared with an AWD or 4WD vehicle, and chains may also be required if it snows. No refunds, allowances, or date changes will be given to travelers who are not prepared with the proper vehicle, as outlined in the Rental Agreement. - This home is not pet friendly. Thank you for not bringing pets into this home. - This home allows up to 4 mature, well-trained dogs with an additional pet rent of $25 per pet per night plus tax. Pets other than dogs are not permitted. - Firewood may be added by reaching out to us more than a week in advance. You get two wrapped bundles and a firestarter for $25/night.
CANCELLATION POLICY: Bookings canceled 60+ days before arrival will receive a refund of the deposit. Bookings canceled within 59 days of the arrival are not entitled to a refund unless the reservation dates are rebooked to another guest. All bookings are subject to a $50 cancellation fee.
