About this property

Hexenstieg House In Lerbach, The Place To Start Your Hiking Holiday

The Hexenstieg house is located in the small village of Lerbach, which is situated right between the towns Osterode am Harz and Clausthal-Zellerfeld. Lerbach is a prime tourist destination in the middle of nature, with countless hiking trails, a skiing slope and lakes for swimming in the area.
Osterode and Clausthal-Zellerfeld are nice historic towns bristling with activity and offering facilities like restaurants, shops and supermarkets, host events like festivals, fairs and (Christmas) markets and offer outdoor activities like rafting and canyoning. Both towns are just a few kilometers away and can be reached by car, bicycle, and public transportation or even on foot.
Lerbach is easily reached from the main roads, and an ideal location to explore the Harz Mountains. Private parking is available free of charge and easily accessible even in winter.
The Hexenstieg house is an historic building, but the apartment has been updated to look fresh and modern. It offers a large, light living room, a modern bedroom, a fully fitted kitchen all with a view of the garden. It also has a private bathroom and a separate toilet room.
A big selling point of the apartment is the massive garden which is available for guests; it offers sun and shade at any point during the day. When you exit the garden out back, and up the grassy hill you will reach the legendary ‘Hexenstieg’, or witches hiking trail.

About the host

Hosted by Mark van Dongen

Host profile image
Mark van Dongen and his wife Michelle have quit their IT jobs in the Netherlands to a more relaxing life away from the city. They have come to Germany to enjoy all that life has to offer while they are still young, and bought an old half-timbered house on a large plot of land in the beautiful Harz mountains.

As the house they bought is too large for them alone, they decided to rent out one of the apartments. As hosts they would love their guests to experience a slice of life in Lerbach and the wonderful Harz mountains, and if desired are perfectly happy to share a conversation with their guests or point them into direction of whatever they are looking for.

Why they chose this property

Lerbach is the perfect location to enjoy life. No need to get stuck in traffic to enjoy the outdoors, but simply walk out the door straight into the forests. In the winter we can enjoy the snow within our own garden or on the slopes just around the corner and in the summer there are plenty of lakes around perfect for swimming.

There are more secluded locations, but what makes Lerbach so perfect is that in a 6 km radius there are two towns that offer all the facilities one might need, with many shops and restaurants. These and neighboring villages have many organized events during the summer weeks that bring the community together.
