About this property

Corazones Draw Ranch: Two Homes on 400 acres

Summary:
Corazones Draw Ranch: Spacious Ranch House PLUS a Casita. 400 acres of Desert Wildlands.

The Space:
EXTRA FEES MAY APPLY. These might not appear in quote and will be added if applicable.
Extra Space Cleaning Fee: $85 per stay if the Casita is used.
The Casita is required for groups larger than seven or optional for any groups wanting extra space.

Corazones Draw Ranch is a 400 acre wildlife ranch with two homes and lots of acreage to roam and explore. Dozens of Mule Deer visit the wildlife water guzzler and feeding station behind the main house daily. This listing is for the ENTIRE Ranch, including both homes.

Groups are welcome. Occupancy inside the Ranch House is limited to seven. The Adobe Casita can house four more. There is a nominal cleaning fee for use of the Casita.

RANCH HOUSE DETAILS: The Ranch House has a fully stocked kitchen with a dining area, comfortable living room, an enclosed porch with a bar, a private game shack, two full bathrooms, and three bedrooms. All the beds and linens are brand new as of November 2018. The master bedroom has a king bed and a private bathroom. The second bedroom has a queen bed and a twin bed. The third bedroom has a queen bed.

The enclosed Bar Porch at the Ranch House is an enclosed porch with three screened archways for fresh air. With a bar and a variety of seating options, the porch is a great place to hang out, relax, share meals, or drinks at any time and in virtually any weather.

The private Game Shack at the Ranch House is detached but connected by a semi-enclosed breezeway. This rustic outbuilding has two windows overlooking a feeding and watering area for native wildlife. On most mornings and evenings, guests can watch mule deer and javelina come in for a drink or to feed. It is common to see herds of well over a dozen at a time. Tables, chairs, a small collection of games, and a large drink cooler also make this a great place to hang out. Since it is separated from the main house, it is a great place for night owls to get a little rowdy without worrying about disturbing friends or family sleeping in the main house.

ADOBE CASITA DETAILS: This one-bedroom guest house is a classic southwestern adobe home with a fully stocked kitchenette, open living space with dining area and living room, a full bathroom, one bedroom with two queen beds, and a Spanish style covered patio with mountain views framed by adobe archways. The Casita sits on a hilltop, a half mile from the Ranch House, with breathtaking views of Corazones Draw Ranch and the surrounding mountains.

COVERED PARKING: There is covered parking for up to three vehicles and lots of room for additional vehicle or trailers.

EXCLUSIVE RANCH ACCESS: As renters of Corazones Draw Ranch, you will have exclusive access to over 400 acres of private Chihuahuan Desert wilderness. The property includes rugged hills, canyons, wet weather creeks, including the scenic Corazones Draw, and abundant wildlife. Wild game has been protected and provided with year-round water and feed on this property for several years. Deer and Javelina are commonly seen near the house. Aoudad Sheep are occasionally seen in the rugged hills and ridges. Hunting is not allowed.

INQUIRIES WELCOME: Call or email us with any questions. We are eager to know how you would like to use the Ranch and we are committed to exceeding your expectations.

The Neighborhood:
TERLINGUA RANCH: Located between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park and including much of the town of Terlingua, Terlingua Ranch is a private subdivision of over 190,000 acres, divided into 9,500 tracts owned by about 5,000 individuals and crisscrossed by 1,100 miles of dirt and rock roads. Tracts range from five acres to several hundred acres. It is some of the most rugged and scenic land in Texas.

Back in the 1960’s, the Ghost Town and much of what later became “Terlingua Ranch” was owned by racing legend and car designer extraordinaire, Carol Shelby and some of his friends. The decided to promote the area by holding a chili cook-off in the then abandoned Ghost Town. That little stunt of a cook-off grew into CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) which now hosts nearly 500 chili cook-offs around the nation and internationally, all leading up the championship cook-off every year in Terlingua. Shelby and friends later subdivided the Ranch and started selling it off to hunters and rugged naturalists. Over the decades, the area was reborn and an eclectic community of nature lovers, artists, musicians, adventurers, and folks just wanting to escape from “civilization” has grown and started to resettle this rough country.

People have come and gone. New buildings have risen while others have fallen, Dreams have been realized and others crushed. Through it all, the land remains. The harsh desert and vast openness encourages positive development and slowly swallows up and recovers from past abuses. The old cinnabar mine sites and ranching outposts persist as relics and ghost towns, some redeveloped, some carefully preserved, and others dissolving back into the desert. Abandoned dreams eventually become points of interests for those of us that stumble upon them decades later. Terlingua Ranch is a bizarre mix of old and new, good and bad, growth and decline, all completely unregulated. Modern homes with high values and stunning designs stand beside dilapidated do-it-yourself mistakes and abandoned ruins of the 1800’s and early 1900’s.

The landscape is even more varied than the people and the structures. Rugged mountains, deep canyons, wild arroyos, dry and wet creeks, peaceful valleys, breathtaking badlands, moonscape like mud flats, the remains of ancient volcanoes, and fossilized ancient seabeds. All of it nurturing a vast array of plant life and wildlife. Around every corner and over every hill lies new and unexpected surprises.

The Ranch is now home to a few hundred hardy souls. It is also dotted with a diverse array of vacation rental lodging options and campsites. Like the diverse land, they range in quality, style, value, and price. A few are amazing dream destinations. Some are good places to sleep. Others are the stuff of nightmares. (We don’t manage any in the nightmare category.)

Big Bend Vacation Rentals started out in 2007 and initially managed three of the first four vacation rentals in the Terlingua and Terlingua Ranch area. We now manage dozens out of a couple of hundred options. We represent dozens of property owners and have hosted tens of thousands of guests. You can trust us as managers, and you can rely on the properties that we manage. We have become very selective about the properties and the property owners that we add to our portfolio. Great place to unplug!
If your looking for a remote place to unplug and rest your head in between Big Bend adventures, this is it! The house had all the accommodations we needed. We traveled with my family of five and our friends, a family of three. We stayed in the main house, plenty of comfy beds for our family. The casita acclimated my friends family well. One thing we loved was NO TV’s! We drove out everyday to explore BB and near by towns, and came back for sunsets, sleep and beautiful sunrises. The star gazing was magnificent. Bring your telescope if you want but you don’t have to have one to enjoy that kind of sky. There is NO cell phone signal close to the property, so be sure to find it in the day light the first time if you can. The road to the casita is steep and is a dirt/rock road but completely doable in a midsize suv. We would definitely stay at the Corazones ranch again!

Really secluded property north of Terlingua
We were in the area mainly for night photography and this property was perfect. It was in a really secluded valley north of Terlingua and at night we could literally not see another light in any direction. It was perfect for us. It was definitely a longer drive to get back to Terlingua but we just planned out day to only go out once a day. It was worth the extra drive. The view from the Casita was the perfect spot for watching sunsets.
