Better than the pictures. We felt incredibly lucky to have found both the house and the most thoughtful and kindest landlord. It was the best VRBO experience we've ever had.
Comfortable and well appointed, this home has lake views from nearly every room. Great place for family gatherings or quiet work in a beautiful mountain setting.
Just spent a few great weeks at this Great Lake house within a 10 minute drive to downtown highlands. Great privacy and incredible deck views. I worked from the house and WiFi worked well. In a great private community. Neighbors very nice. Hope to be back soon!
Great all around experience, great location, house just as described,
We had a wonderful time at this lakefront home. It was perfect for our family of five, great location on a quiet lake, easy access into both Highlands and Cashiers, and the owner couldn't have been any nicer. Highly recommended.
The location is great and it is an extremely peaceful place. Plenty of space and a wonderful fireplace. Close to Highlands and Cashiers. The owner was always available to answer any questions we had.
The lot is the most beautiful in the area and the house is gorgeous, big rooms, beautiful view through out the house, comfortable, air conditioner in every bedroom, nice and light kitchen!! Me, my family and friend had a wonderful time and Bob, the owner, very nice and kind person!!!
Bob was the most amazing host. Always attentive to my question and concerns. Property was amazing. Neighborhood is amazing. Oak Steakhouse was the best steak I ever ate. Our 2 dogs had such a wonderful time. Will return to Highlands.
Breathtaking view and property in secluded mountain community.
The Host was super efficient regarding fixing pontoon boat . Unable to use grill. Quite a few dust bunnies under mattress /under and behind furniture.

Sorry you had difficulty starting the grill, we replace the grill every 2 years. The grill will be replaced in March. No excuses for the dust bunnies, this will be addressed with the cleaning service. Thank you for the heads up.
Absolutely spectacular stay! We had to stay a little over a month because we were doing renovations on our home and we were truly sad to leave. Bob and his family are precious!! The stories he can tell you about the home he’s owned for over 45 years are very nostalgic. Every section of this property is Devine and the view of the lake in every room is just amazing. Don’t forget to feed the duck duck goose and take a moment to take it all in and appreciate its beautiful history.
a visit at Highland House during the leaf season."
So comfortable and homey with beautiful lake view. Well appointed and located very close to Highlands and Cashiers for shopping, dining and outdoor
exploring. Obviously, a family home that is well loved. Grateful the owner shares it!
We had a great week of Thanksgiving with our family at this property. The owner was very responsive to any questions and the house was perfect for our family. Wonderful quiet neighborhood within a few minutes of Highlands.
This is a much loved family house for the owner, and you can tell when you enter. It is one of the best locations I have been to since using Vrbo. It's on a pond with the best view in the subdivision. It is private, close to Highlands, has two kayaks, a pontoon boat with electric motor, fishing (good fishing) and is close to many hiking trails and waterfall. We had a delightful time.
We arrived and started fishing immediately! The beautiful lake is well stocked with rainbow trout and bass. We caught quite a few of both daily. You can find fishing worms at the small exxon station on Main St. in Highlands. There is a 2 person pontoon boat with an electric motor, and kayaks to use. There is no central air conditioning, but the weather in September is cool, 50's to 70's, so it wasn't missed. The house is well stocked with cooking utensils. We cooked our meals daily. The house has a gas grill, though you may have to clean it prior to using it. We used the portable gas grill we brought with us. There is a firepit. You can buy bundles of firewood for it, and the fireplace, at Bryson's grocery in Highlands. There are limited restaurants nearby in Highlands. Everything is pricey in Highlands, and the downtown area is very small. If you want to visit a town where you can walk downtown for a couple of hours and visit many interesting places of business in a beautiful, quaint setting, I suggest Brevard, which is about 35 miles or so from Highlands. Cashiers doesn't have much more to offer than Highlands, unless you are an avid hiker, golfer, or you want to drive the roads visiting waterfalls. The property itself is really as beautiful as the pictures, and we found ourselves just wanting to stay here, relax, fish, cook, and be off the grid for our 2 week vacation. It is a great place to reunite with family and just be together. Bob, the owner, is beyond wonderful, and so considerate.

Beautiful location. Neglected Interior.
The house is in a pristine and quiet location that delivers on beauty. If you intend to spend 100% of your time outside, then this is the place for you. However, the interior of the house is very run down. The master mattress has old springs and is so soft that my 95 lb wife thought it was a water bed and struggled to get out of bed. No support. No central A/C. Humidity in house ran 70-80% throughout stay. Everything felt wet. Bathrooms are nasty. Shower head is 5’ tall. Need to bend over if taller than 5’. All windows/screens need replacing as the bugs get into the house. In Guest BR, the owner has cardboard as barrier next to window a/c unit. Seriously? Leaks everywhere. The walls are filthy and spider webs inside. It has all the features you need like oven, microwave, grill, etc... The cleaning person does a good job on the surface/quick cleaning but it needs a professional cleaning and an investment to bring it up to speed. The previous review saying “Tired” is accurate.

Sorry our guest were unhappy with the accommodation. But I would like to note that 14 days prior to renting our home both husband and wife inspected our home.
They also had complaints about another house they rented in August.
We have hosted over 3oo families and have many repeat guests. Our 44 plus reviews tell a story of wonderful family memories.
It is a haven for kids with lots of options....
Evening time around the fire pit, tire swing, two kayaks, pontoon boats, hammock, many games, great fishing or just gathering together around the fire place in the great room.
We did just replace two sliding screen doors and three window screens.
We had several very active families this summer and I am sure we need to do some painting during the off season.
Two grand parents, two adult children and spouses, 3 grandsons (8,8,7) and three family dogs for four nights and three full days. Could not have been better. Very high energy levels. The house was well suited to our gang, parents all had individual bedrooms and the three grandsons slept in the fourth room. Kids ran AC in rooms - 50 deg nights were not cool enough(!) But they were very happy. Perfect weather so most of time was spent outdoors. Pontoon boat was hit for grandsons fishing and just lake cruising. The two kayaks were used at same time. Lake is shallow and safe for this age kids (must wear vests). Each of three nights were by spent the fire pit with dinner and s’mores. Dogs and boys never stopped running after each other (sorry for dirt in house!). Large flat yard was unique to this location and thoroughly enjoyed at this age. Kitchen was well furnished and used for most meal preps. Labor Day weekend meant that the crowds were in town and at area attractions (hikes and waterfalls) so we spend days at lake fishing and playing.
We have stayed in several locations in this area before but this has been our best location and lodging for this family and stage in our life.
Bob was easy to work with and very responsive.
Beautiful lake! Natural surroundings, and very relaxing! We all enjoyed fishing on the pontoon boat
Very nice neighborhood. The house was very inviting with it’s large den and kitchen area!
The bedrooms are nice , large and comfortable!
The decks around the side and back of house offers breathtaking views of the lake!
We all enjoyed fishing from the pontoon boat! So much fun!!
Downtown Highlands offers great dinning and shopping!!!
Totally recommend this beautiful area!
Thank you Bob❤️
Sincerely,
The Millers

Great Family vacation
The location could not be better! Best spot in Highlands, on a small lake with lots to do for all ages. The house itself is older and tired, needs some TLC to bring it back up to speed.
This property was perfect for our family from 6 months to 90 to gather for Christmas. We loved the wood-burning fireplace and the lot with a lake for fishing, The weather was perfect too. It was also wonderful that is was dog-friendly so my grand-dogs could enjoy the celebration as well.
The perfect mountain getaway for a family with small children. Idyllic setting, comfortable home and the area's famous mild summers. What's not to like.
It’s hard to give this property only five stars as it certainly deserves more! This was a family vacation that included our three grandsons, ages 4, 6, and 8. There wasn’t a dull moment with the kayaking, fishing, tire swing, a yard large enough for outdoor football, fire pit for S’mores and so much more! Thank you , Bob, for being so easy to work with. We hope to enjoy your home again in the future.
