Little House on the Bridge - See Reviews of charming stays in history!

The house for rent is 400 years old (completely and comfortably renovated in 2002, roof-top terrace built in 2023) and is situated in the historic Castello above Menaggio, on Lake Como just across Bellagio and Varenna. It is a bridge over a pebble stone road, a short five minute walk down to the center of Menaggio. The house has two floors and a private parking below. On the first floor is the kitchen, dining area and the living room (with an additional sofa bed for 2) with a walkout balcony with lake view and fireplace. The second floor has a large roof-top terrace with view on the mountains, a master bedroom, a second bedroom (with a single bed that turns into a double) and a bathroom with bath/shower, wc and bidet. Traffic is restricted so the house is very quiet with a great Lake View. It is "suspended" above the road, and it has a balcony and a large terrace. Under the bridge you can access the terraced garden, where an area is reserved to guests as a sundeck or to work or read, or where you can cook, BBQ and dine. The garden is occasionally shared wth other guests, but the roof top terrace and balcony are in exclusive use. House is ideal for who travels by public transportation. Menaggio is very well served by buses and boats and a main train line is just across the Lake, in Varenna, 15 minutes away by ferry.

The house for rent is located in Menaggio, on the western shore of Lake Como about mid lake, just 15 min. by ferry from Bellagio and Varenna. Menaggio is one of the most important towns on Lake Como and has been a tourist attraction for hundreds of years. From Menaggio central location, one can easily navigate the whole lake by public boats. Bellagio and Varenna are only a short boat ride away. Lugano, in Switzerland is only 15 miles away, well served by public transportation.

The owner is a US born of Italian Origin resident, with a thorough knowledge of the Lake and its surroundings. He is glad to spend all the time needed with guests to help them planning their hikes, boat trips, shopping trips or simple sightseeing. He also assists with full info on travel to reach Menaggio and picks up guests with no car at the bus or the ferry.

Only one dog of small size is allowed, no cats or other kind of pets. The dog, however, can only stay in the house or use the balcony and the large terrace, not the garden.

Quirky and comfy place to stay

Great communication with host .Good location in an interesting picturesque town .Accommodation adaptable to a few different groups ie double and bunks and sofa bed . Quaint decks and places to sit and enjoy the environs . Very comfortable,well equipped and clean.Description was accurate, with parking space. Fabio the host was very helpful and pleasant and spoke excellent english. Nice views and although over a road, it was quiet, with only the odd car that probably lived in that road. Overall excellent.

Fabulous location

The Little House on the Bridge was ideally placed for getting about Menaggio - close to the lake side, beach, shops restaurants and ferry. The house is quirky with everything we needed. We didn’t do any cooking as we ate out , just breakfasts and light lunches. Bed was comfortable and air con very welcome. Menaggio is well placed for taking the ferry to Varenne and Bellagio or the bus along the west coast to Como. We didn’t use the car at all once we arrived as there was no need.

Wonderful Vacation

Thank you Fabio for renting us the delightful 400 year old Little House on the Bridge. I stayed there with my children and mother. The air was fresh in the mountains; the sunrise which can be viewed from the apartment was spectacular. The lake was clean and provided a refreshing swim. The walks, ferry ride and speed boat on the river were memorable. The Town was a short walk away and provided all the amenities needed ( a meat, fresh fruit and supermarket) and the restaurants by the lakeside were wonderful. My wife and I were wondering if we should return without the kids and stay longer! I am already recommending this to my friends and family! Thank you Fabio.

Lovely! We enjoyed our stay soooo much!

The apartment is very nice and cozy and we felt very comfortable. Fabio, the landlord, was extraordinarily helpful and very nice and was able to give lots of good tips on various activities in the region. His support was flawless and the communication was extremely clear and most uncomplicated, which we really appreciated. Furnishings and equipment were not exactly luxurious, but we had everything we needed. The small balcony with a view on the lake and the village (classic, tiny balcony for a maximum of two slim people ;), but perfect for breakfast coffee) and the larger terrace are a real asset. Next time we're at Lago di Como, we'll definitely try to rent this cosy, beautifully situated cottage again. Again so many thanks to Fabio!!!

Zeer vriendelijke gastheer. Legt goed uit en geeft leuke tips. Het huisje is compleet. Keuken met veel ruimte en artikelen.Ruim voor 4 volwassenen. Prima bedden en kastruimte.Mooi terras voor ontbijt in de zon maar ook schaduw.Prachtig uitzicht.Strandje, keien, op 13 minuten lopen.Je zit boven in Menaggio.Dus wel stijle klim. Eigen parkeerplaats. Hebben de auto niet gebruikt in de week dat wij er waren. Leuk dorpje en met de ferry naar de overkant is goed betaalbaar.

Fabio est un hôte très présent (peut-être un peu trop pour certains !). Sa maison est propre et conforme à la description. Il y a toutefois des bémols :- nous avons attendu 1h30 après l'heure pévue pour pouvoir nous installer (la dame qui faisait le ménage avait du retard. ça peut arriver mais il faisait 40 dégrès et ça n'a pas était agréable)-la ruelle pour accéder à la maison est vraiment mais vraiment très étroite- la climatisation est utilisable de 20h30 à 8h30 du matin (minuterie). Ce n'est pas précisé dans l'annonce.- une taxe de séjour de 21 euros/personne est demandée en liquide à la fin du séjour (Abritel m'a dit de ne pas payer mais j'ai préféré rester en bon terme avec Fabio...) Y'a un gros soucis de ce côté là : ou Abritel ne fait pas son boulot ou l'hôte s'arrange ces fins de mois tranquilou... je laisse juger mais à savoir cela, j'aurais choisi une autre location un peu plus chère avec la taxe incluse...- la literie dans la chambre des enfants est à revoir : les sommiers en ferraille c'est d'une autre époque (pour la chambre principale la literie est correcte)Je ne déconseille pas d'y aller mais il serait bon que les prochaines personnes qui loueront soient au courant de tout cela.

Wohnen im alten Stadtkern

Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Aufenthalt im Haus von Fabio. Die Kommunikation über WhatsApp hat sehr gut geklappt! Fabio hat schnell geantwortet und war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. In der Wohnung ist alles vorhanden, was man benötigt und die Lage ist sehr zentral.

Un logement agréable et très bien situé, avec un hôte efficace et chaleureux

L'appartement est très bien situé pour visiter Menaggio et sa région (Bellagio, Varenna, Villa Carlotta, etc.). Notre voiture est restée garée toute la semaine, tout peut se faire à pied depuis la location : accès au village, à la plage du camping, à l'embarcadère ou aux commerces. La maison est ancienne est c'est très plaisant. Le logement était d'une taille suffisante pour nous 3 (un couple, un adolescent) et très fonctionnel : tout ce qui est nécessaire s'y trouve. Les deux seuls défauts mineurs : la salle de bain pas assez aérée et la chambre des enfants, très chaude (sous les toits ; la période était caniculaire). Fabio est un hôte organisé, chaleureux et prévenant, facile à contacter, merci à lui !

Très agréable séjour à Menaggio

Fabio est un propriétaire charmant qui a su être patient malgré nos trois heures de retard à l'arrivée. Prévenant sans être envahissant, il a su nous donner de très bons conseils pour organiser notre séjour. La maison est chaleureuse et bien placée avec une précieuse place de parking ce qui permet de faire beaucoup de visites via bus et bateaux (attention cependant aux rues très étroites pour la voiture). Située dans un quartier tranquille sur les hauteurs avec une vue partielle sur le lac, elle permet d'accéder au centre ville en quelques minutes à pieds (même si ça grimpe ou descend assez dur). Elle a du caractère (pierres) sans être très grande mais elle est bien équipée (machine à laver, LV,...) avec une jolie terrasse, intelligemment organisée et largement suffisante pour quatre ou cinq personnes (notre cas). Une petite remarque sur la climatisation qui équipe la pièce principale et la grande chambre mais malheureusement pas la petite or celle-ci est prévue pour trois personnes et il y fait rapidement chaud. Nous avons pu visiter bien sûr Menaggio à pied mais aussi Côme, Bellaggio et Varena (que nous recommandons) en bus et bateaux . En vingt minutes en voiture nous avons rejoins le parking de Breglia permettant d'accéder après une heure de marche au refuge à 1400 m avec une superbe vue sur le lac. Nous avons également pu aller à Milan mais c'est déjà beaucoup plus long. Bref, un très beau séjour que nous recommandons sans réserve.

Une belle place pour découvrir le lac de Côme

Nous avons été très bien accueillis par Fabio, qui parle également Français, et nous a bien conseillés. La maison est spacieuse, bien équipée avec linge de maison fournis, et très agréable. L'emplacement est idéal, dans le coeur historique, proche de l'embarcadère donnant accès aux autres villes touristiques du lac. Une plage est accessible à pied pour se baigner dans le lac. Une belle semaine pour nous 4 !

Eine besondere Unterkunft

Mitten im ältesten Teil von Como. Die Ferienwohnung ist wirklich zauberhaft. Es sind zu Fuss nur ca. 10 min zum See, zur Budhaltestelle, zum Bäcker und zum Supermarkt und ca. 15 min zum öffentlichen Kiesstrand. Der Weg zurück geht dann ganz schön bergauf. Trotzdem haben wir das Auto nicht gebraucht und es stand die meiste Zeit auf dem Parkplatz. Der Vermieter stand jederzeit für Fragen zur Verfügung und konnte uns gute Tips geben.

Schöne Stadtwohnung in schönem Ort Menaggio

Die Unterkunft war gut in den Ort integriert, zwei Etagen boten eine komfortable Größe. Der Balkon hätte ein wenig größer sein können. Eher für eine als für zwei Personen gedacht. Der Gastwirt war sehr hilfsbereit und gab uns Empfehlungen zu Wanderungen und Restaurants. Der Blick auf See und Berge und die gegenüberliegenden Häuserwand war pittoresk! Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen.

Außergewöhnliche Ferienwohnung

Wir haben den Aufenthalt im House on the bridge sehr genossen. Der Ausblick ist wunderschön. Der kurze aber steile Weg zur Wohnung ist gewöhnungsbedürftig aber machbar. Fabio ist ein exzellenter und sehr hilfsbereiten Gastgeber. Der immer gute Tipps auf Lager hat. Vielen Dank nochmal.

Fabio was born in New York in 1957, with a Masters Degree in Natural Resources Policy and Planning from Cornell University, becomes a protected areas planner for International Organizations. In 1989 is the founder of Europe Conservation, a European non-profit organization specialized in providing volunteers to small conservation projects in developing countries. In 1996 he first publishes Green Volunteers, the World Guide to Voluntary Work in Nature Conservation, now sold world wide and known as “The Bible of Conservation Volunteering”. He is also active in the humanitarian field by being among the founders of the First Italian Ethical Bank. He also edits and publishes other international volunteering guides: World Volunteers, The World Guide to Humanitarian and Development Volunteering, and Archaeo-Volunteers, the World Guide to Archaeological and Heritage Volunteering. He is now the Director of the Menaggio Youth Hostel. Silvia, Fabio's wife, is the President of a non profit humanitarian Organization (SOS Bambini)supporting orphanages in Rumania. Fabio lives and works between Milan and Lake Como (Italy). Fabio and Silvia have a daughter, Stella, 21 years old.
