Nestled in the beautiful North Carolina mountains, our property is located among serene woods, complete with a stream and small waterfall running alongside the property. Watch the wildlife surrounding you, including the hummingbirds in the summer, song birds all season long, and deer. Hike the backyard down to the rippling stream, especially after a rainfall!

The stars are breathtaking at night, as is being immersed in nature and wildlife at all times. There's a beautiful and accessible stream with a small waterfall that runs alongside our property, from which we've seen deer take refreshing drinks!

When you stay at Mid-Century Mountain Retreat, you are far enough away from the noise to feel secluded with privacy, yet a short drive from local shops and restaurants. Our guests enjoy amenities provided by the Sapphire Valley Resort, and nearby excursions such as white water rafting, tubing, and skiing; it's the perfect mountain getaway for any type of vacation!

Under 15 minutes to Whitewater Falls and Gorges National Park, it's perfect for visiting hiking trails, along with Horseback Riding, Sapphire Valley Golf & Tennis, shopping & restaurants. Just 5 minutes from Cashiers, 20 minutes from Highlands, and 1 hour from Asheville. Local grocery store Ingles is nearby for gourmet and basic food shopping needs. This is the ultimate secluded mountain retreat for any occasion!

Pets may be allowed on a case by case basis at owners sole discretion. There is no guarantee we will allow your pet to stay with us. The $250 per pet fee is non-refundable and applies to all breeds and sizes of pets. There is a $50 PER DAY per dog fee in addition to existing pet fees that will be paid prior to rental commencement. Additional fees may apply if any damage is present after your stay.

This listing is for the main upper level only. Guests may share outside spaces periodically. Security cameras line the perimeter of the driveway and carport.

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
All trash and recycling must be tightly secured in bags and placed in the corresponding animal-proof bins outside. All latches on enclosures must be secured.
Make certain all appliances are in the ‘OFF’ position, especially the propane tank on the grill, the oven, and the stove ranges. All A/C thermostats should be set on “auto”.
Perform final walk-thru to ensure all windows and doors are closed and locked, all lights are turned off, and that no personal belongings are left behind. Not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

A fun mountain retreat

The house is large, with four separate sleeping zones (each with at least one bath)-- plenty of spaces to congregate or separate. The kitchen(s) are well-equipped, and the owner is generous with towels/linens and soaps/papergoods, games and books. We really enjoyed the pool table -- brought out competitive personalities. We had a progression of family and then friends -- each guest loved it! It's close to lots of great hikes and swimming holes; and we purchased $2/day passes for the resort facilities (golf, pool, playground and more). I'm hoping we can all gather there again.

Great mountain

Huge property - way up in mountains and woods. Winding road up to property a little difficult to navigate with large van we had. Less then 10 min to Sapphire National golf course. 15 min into Cashiers. House had a lot of rooms & spaces downstairs & up. Very clean. Kitchen well stocked. Quiet at night.

Wonderful Escape

We had a delightful 3-day family getaway weekend at this property. The house is spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. As pictured, the upstairs has a open sitting area with a great view of the outdoors. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped. Downstairs offers a pool table, a table for games or puzzles, a reading spot, and another kitchen area! The property owner, Liz, could not have been nicer or more responsive to all my questions. She genuinely wants her guests to have a nice stay. (Thanks, Liz!) One could have a great time just staying at the house, but Sapphire is a great place to visit. If interested, the owners will arrange for you to get a pass to the Sapphire Valley Resort. (You just have to pay the resort a small fee of $2/day/person - 3 day minimum). The resort offers extra amenities including a nice little gym and access to Fairfail Lake which was great for paddle boarding along with other boating options. For eats, Table 64 was phenomenal right in town. You can also take a short drive to Cashiers for other options. Between the beauty of Sapphire, the elegance of the house, and the friendliness of the owner, this is a great place to stay and we would definitely stay here again!

Over-the-top Master Bedroom

This is a very large house with all the kitchen amenities anyone could ever want. We had 4 adult couples and an adult single in our party. The Over-the-top main Master Bedroom compared to the other bedrooms made for vastly different bedroom experiences for our group. The main master had a king bed, his and hers closets, and his and hers bathrooms, all in a rather large room. This bedroom was far superior to the others (King, Queen, Queen, and Twin), particularly the bedroom with the small twin beds. Also, 2 bedrooms had to share a bathroom, while the Main Master had 2 bathrooms. Everything else about the house is very nice including the large dining room, pool table, huge deck space, and very large great room. The area is very quiet, except for the bear who visited after a cookout using the outdoor grill. All in all, a very nice vacation experience in spite of the disparity in bedrooms.

Outstanding Location and Home for a Large Family Reunion

2 story with beautiful view of the woods in Sapphire. Very quite. All the amenities you need plus pool table. Comfortable beds and pillows. Large outdoor patio with enough seating for 10. Nice size kitchen for cooking for 12. All in all we had a blast at this lovely mountain escape. Highly recommended!

The house is spacious and allow us to spread out. There are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms to easily accommodate our 8 adults and 2 children. The deck was good for early morning coffee. Difficulty in getting to property as GPS systems were baffled several times. Hard to read directions on phones and navigate roads at the same time.. We still thought it was a great property and we had a great time. Top shelf and would come back. Communication rated low as we would have to create a vrbo account to contact you and we didn't want to do that

A Weekend In Paradise

We had an absolutely incredible time in this home. Overall very nice. Love the access to area offerings. Adequate bedrooms. The furniture arrangement for a large group seemed awkward. We had 10 people and rooms with TVs would not accommodate all of us. Loved the pool table and downstairs kitchen. Master bedroom was especially spacious. Would have liked a seating area in that room. Beautiful views and surroundings. Internet and phone service was virtually nonexistent.

Great place for family vacation!

This is a beautiful house with comfortable beds and luxury linens. The mountain views are spectacular!!!The house was very generously appointed and the kitchen had everything a cook could want--except a potato masher! The owner did an incredible job of answering our questions and giving us information about the house. We loved our stay here. However, the paved roads are curvy and steep getting to the house, not sure if we all could have made it if it had snowed! But it would have been beautiful!!! We had a visit one night by a black bear...very exciting!!! This was an amazing place to make Thanksgiving memories!! Thank you, Liz!

Our family's mountain getaway is a true gem, and we go above and beyond to ensure your experience is nothing short of excellent. We initially purchased our home in 2007 as a complete fixer-upper! We completely gutted the interior, re-imagined the layout, and added beautiful interior features and maximized the potential of the space. We've updated all appliances, added timeless decor throughout, and ensured that it's equipped with all the comforts of a home-away-from-home, as it has been for us.
