We enjoyed great weather in this historic home and estate. The home has everything working and modern amenities. The location is secluded but not far from everything on the island, you will need to rent a car regardless. The landscape and history are part of the adventure. The generator came on once and powered everything. All communication was responded to right away. One of a kind vacation!
This property was so beautiful. Panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea from the front porch where we spent most of our time. The living area spacious and comfortable for all. Beds very comfortable also. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in, room for everyone to help! We had some rainy days, but couldn’t have had a better place to wait for the sky to clear. Had a problem with one of the pool rooms AC, owner had the caretaker replace immediately! The short drive to Cane Bay was very scenic and enjoyable. We would go back to St Croix just to stay in this beautiful home in its ideal location.
We loved the setting so much! Beautiful views, historic ruins, garden pottery, collection of orchids by the pool, the list goes on. The pool was such a relaxing spot to have a drink or for grilling. The house is super charming filled with collected items full of character and charm.
We had a great time enjoying the sugar mill, pool and house. Had the best Christmas dinner ever in the mill. Beautiful property and fun to just wander around looking at all the historical features.
We had the most amazing time in St Croix. The mill on the property was stunning, we dined in the mill several nights. The beds were comfortable…except for one that creaks when moving. Really happy for the pool , a must if you bring children.
Short walk to Salt River kayaking tours.
Would stay again!
What an amazing property with the most gorgeous view. Everything about this property was accurate. The layout and space for the family was perfect. I really enjoyed the walking around the property. From the privacy to the amazing Kitchen, this by far is one of the best. And thank you to Nick for answering any questions needed to be answered.
I can't say enough good things about this property. The views were stunning. It was so private and we felt very safe. It was close to everything. The kitchen was well equipped with up to date appliances. The property managers, Nick and Kathy were very friendly and helpful. 2 of us worked while we were there and the wifi was strong enough to support having our laptops and work phones on the wifi. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and we found a few pieces of chaney around the ruins. Would highly recommend this property.
We had a great time, the property was as described. Enjoyed exploring the property and surrounding area. The book is interesting on the property, wish we could have known what the. Building in the property use to be or what they looked like. The manager was wonderful and had us follow him to the property as to get there without complication, I am glad he did as our GPS would not have got us there.

So glad you had a great time at the Sugar Mill. I agree that it might be nice to identify the other ruins on the property and to describe what their functions were. My husband and I will work on that for our future guests. Thanks for the suggestions and for staying at Salt River!
We really enjoyed our stay at this gorgeous property. The view is amazing and we loved exploring the grounds. One of the best nights we had was dinner under the gaslights in the Sugar Mill. Unforgettable memories made. Central air was a big plus as a lot of properties only have in the bedrooms. Pool was refreshing and outdoor new bathroom very convenient. Kitchen well stocked for cooking and many extras supplied. Only suggestion would be curtains or blinds for the windows.
This was our first trip to St. Croix and we couldn't have been happier with our choice of accommodations. The house and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. It offered all the things we needed for our stay. The kids loved the pool. Especially my youngest. It was a real treat to have Thanksgiving dinner in the old windmill. The central location of the property is great, with Frederiksted, Christiansted, and the north shore beaches all a short drive away. If we ever make it back to St. Croix we would try to book it again. Thanks

My partner and I along with 4 of our friends thoroughly enjoyed our time here! The kitchen was well equipped for making meals that we enjoyed on the covered porch. There was great bird watching each morning and moon rise over the salt bay each evening was a treat. The property grounds were fun to explore and the lap pool was a perfect place to cool off on sunny afternoons. We played card games by lamp light in the sugar mill. The beach access across the street at Gentle Winds was convenient and a couple of us got to see a whale fully breach there. All in all we found the location to be easy to get to where we wanted to go (nothing was more than a 20ish minute drive away). It felt private and quiet - a great place to unwind. The property steward, Nick was incredibly helpful and kind not to mention easy to communicate with. If there's anything that wasn't great, I would say it was maybe the pillows but that's pretty nit-picky.
My family of 4 stayed for 10 days and had a lovely time. The property and view are more spectacular than the listing shows. The location is quiet and conveniently located minutes from Christiansted, beaches and grocery stores. The kitchen and bathrooms were well-stocked with essentials plus extras such as beach towels and sunblock. Our only issue was the mattresses in the main cottage which were very uncomfortable. However, that is more of a personal preference and other guests may find them comfortable. Nick was very welcoming and made sure the trash was collected and the pool was clean during our entire stay all while being unintrusive. He always gave us plenty of notice before he stopped by. We couldn't have asked for a better property manager. It would be a wonderful addition if there was a book about the property and what each building's purpose was. We appreciate Chuck and Virginia making this extraordinary property available for others to enjoy. Christiansted
I knew the second l found this property online , that it had a magical quality.
I love staying in older places- and this had so much character.
Every taste, view, smell ,and noise was perfect.
I highly recommend a
Stay at this lovely place.
Nick was a friendly and helpful person on all levels.

Our family had a wonderful vacation in this home. It was spacious enough to accommodate all of us comfortably, yet the home felt extremely cozy. We spent a great deal of time on the covered porch, mornings, afternoons, and late into the evenings. The location was convenient and we felt so secluded and safe within the confines of the sprawling grounds. Every time we explored the property we found another interesting piece of history. Nick, the property manager, was so friendly, helpful, and always available to assist if needed. We loved it here!
It was a pleasure from start to finish. Owners and caretaker were super responsive. House and grounds were simply breathtaking and in a great location.
Beautiful view, wonderful gardens. Historic property. We spent a big part of each evening on the porch and it was delightful. We had a great time but I do think there are some modest changes that would make it even nicer.
The bedrooms are separated from the living space by bifold door. That is not adequate for privacy. Lack of shades in the windows diminishes it further. Each bedroom could use a real door and some shades.
The available TV worked fine but the screen is pretty small for such a nice property. May seem petty because no one comes to St Croix to watch tv. We were on site for Super Bowl weekend and the current tv was a bit better than watching it on our phones but not by much.
The mattress and box spring in the western guest room needs to be replaced. Inadequate support. Even a full sheet of plywood to replace the slats would help.
I want to give kudos to Nick, the property manager. He could not have been nicer and was a big help in getting us set up for our week. He patiently waited for us to grab our groceries. Very fine asset for your property.
We loved the Salt Rover Sugar Mill and enjoyed the historical buildings, mature gardens, fruit trees, and privacy that the property offered. Great views of the ocean from the house and front porch, steady ocean breeze, and stargazing at night. The home and guest quarters are modest but comfortable and sufficient. The kids loved the pool. The location was convenient for us and we really enjoyed visiting St. Croix.
We enjoyed our stay. Nick and the owner were great to work with. Property is private and beautiful with deer and other wildlife. You will need a rental car.
We stayed at Chucks house on St Croix in early May and had a fabulous time!
The house exceeded my expectations and was very comfortable for our group of 5 adults. We even had two of our friends who lived on the island stay with us one night and there was plenty of room for 7 people. Two couples stayed in the Main House and my mom and friends stayed in the pool house/cabana.
The view from the veranda was amazing and you could see St Thomas and St John in the distance on a clear day.
The best part about the property was the sugar mill where we enjoyed having dinner each night. It was lit by propane lanterns and was a real treat to enjoy with plenty of room for all of us to have dinner. The house is located on an old sugar plantation and there are ruins, a sugar mill, and even an underground tunnel which was fun to explore.
If you are planning a trip to St Croix this house is the perfect place to stay. Secluded private location with plenty of room for a family or group of friends.
We would love to return here if we ever go back to the Virgin Islands.
Thank you to Chuck and Nick for hosting us!

Interesting Historical Property with great views and grounds
This is a unique property with fascinating grounds and a beautiful setting. We loved the history and furnishing. Eating in the windmill with gas lanterns was very special. Great pool. Excellent location (mid Island) near Salt Water River. Highly recommended.
