Lazy Elk Cabin: Your Perfect Escape Overlooking Fontana Lake

Welcome to Lazy Elk Cabin, a serene retreat with breathtaking views of Fontana Lake and the Smoky Mountains. This cabin offers an incredible water and mountain view with private access and a private dock.

Use our Honda side-by-side ATV to reach the dock or enjoy an invigorating hike down to the lake. Our dock was expanded in 2021, features a private waterslide and sun deck, ideal for family fun.

Pontoon Boat Rental:
Rent our 2019 Sylvan pontoon with a 90 hp Yamaha outboard to explore Fontana Lake and access trails in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

Remote and Scenic:
Located in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, approximately 65 miles from Gatlinburg, 86 miles from Asheville, and 22 miles from Bryson City.

Nearby Activities:
Close to whitewater rafting at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, mountain biking at Tsali Recreation Center, fishing, hiking, and scenic drives like the Tail of the Dragon (Hwy 129) and Moonshiner 28 (Hwy 28) and the Cherohala Skyway!

Important Notes:

Pontoon Boat Rental: Available from late-April to early-October for $1000/week or $250/day with a $250 refundable damage deposit. (Fontana Marina charges $450 per 8 hours)
Water Levels: Fontana Lake water levels vary throughout the year. The dock is typically floating from the 3rd week of April until the end of September.

Access:
The cabin is located at the end of a 2-mile hard-packed gravel road. Drive slowly and be prepared to pull over for oncoming traffic. There is a neighborhood security gate at the end of the 2-mile gravel road. Codes will be shared 1 week before arrival.

Trash Policy:
Please do not leave trash outside to avoid attracting wildlife. Guests can take trash to the community dump or call the property manager for arrangements.

Beautiful cabin & location

We had an amazing week at Lazy Elk cabin. Very clean cabin with comfortable beds and stocked with all the necessities. The view is breathtaking and we enjoyed fishing at the dock and renting the pontoon boat. The hosts are great and I’m thankful for them for allowing us to stay at their cabin. Highly recommend staying here!

Great getaway!

We loved our stay! We did plan on going out to visit the area but actually didn't because there was so much for us to do and enjoy right at the cottage. It was a much needed get away from everything and we had such a great time visiting with our family from out of state. Thank you for a wonderful place to stay and great communication on anything we needed.

Lake Fontana vacation

The cabin was beautiful, the views were amazing! We had a wonderful time sitting on the deck and using the fire pit. We used the boat one day and it was awesome exploring Lake Fontana. The cabin was very clean and has all the amenities that you will need to cook, the outside grill was great for cooking dinners. We will definitely be back!

Amazing view!

We had a great stay at this house and it had everything we needed. It was very comfortable for our family and fully stocked. The view from the deck is amazing and there were many games and a nice hot tub for us to use on the deck. The floating dock was also well stocked and we enjoyed fishing, kayaking, hiking, and boating. We can’t wait to plan our next stay there!

Amazing Property and View!

The directions were very clear to get to property. Owner was very responsive to the small issues that arised. The cabin is absolutely stunning, and the view is unreal how beautiful it is!! Boat rental went smoothly and SO fun! Everything was very clean, beds were so comfortable, plenty of supplies and towels for our large group, kitchen really is fullt syocked for your needs.

Awesome View

It was the perfect size and packed with things to do. Our kids loved playing pool, ping pong and the other games on the deck while looking at the view. The fire pit was a hit as well. Also very impressive movie collection.

Incredible Views

The porch is incredible with views to last a lifetime! There is everything you could hope for and more right there-gas fire pit, pool table, ladder golf, dinner table, hot tub, and more with a swing set a few steps below. Kids and adults all had something to do! We enjoyed our days on the large dock and kids loved the water slide. 10/10 would recommend-we loved our stay!

Very Relaxing

Very nice property. Welcomed my Wife turning “29”. Host made her fill extra special with a banners, balloons and a nice bouquet of flowers. Enjoyed our walks on the trails, trips to the private dock area, relaxing in the hot tub and playing pool. Very secluded. Loved the view of the Lake. Definitely planing a trip back

Great getaway at the Lazy Elk Cabin!

We had such a fun time at The Lazy Elk cabin! We had 4 teenagers with us and they loved the pool table, hot tub, darts and all the games. Having access to the ATV to get to the dock was very helpful too! This place is stocked with everything you need for an enjoyable getaway. The owners are very responsive and the cabin was very clean. The view is absolutely beautiful too! We enjoyed the fire pit and stargazing was amazing! Highly recommend this cabin if you’re looking for a relaxing mountain/lake vacation.

Mountain Paradise!

Our family had a wonderful and relaxing 2 weeks at this perfect cabin. It is very remote, breathtakingly beautiful and amazingly quiet; the best star gazing - saw the Perseid Meteor shower - and Fontana Lake is just gorgeous. Lots of boating and swimming, relaxing on the deck, hot tub, playing billiards, ping pong and other games, fully equipped kitchen was such a plus. Owners were very available and helpful for the couple of questions we had. Beds very comfy and the hike to the boat dock certainly kept us in shape. We will be back!

Absolutely Wonderful

The cabin exceeded our expectations. Off the beaten path you are assured of peace and quiet. The cabin was well stocked with kitchen equipment, paper and cleaning supplies and more than enough entertainment to keep teenagers away from their iPhones for the majority of the days/nights. The views from the cabin and dock area are breathtaking! The pontoon boat, kayaks and water slide were a huge hit for our group and the hike back and forth from the cabin to the dock was plenty of exercise. We will be back!

Great view but neighbors crowding

Wonderful cabin. The view to the mountains and lake is breathtaking but now at least partially obscured by a cabin being built behind the property. That means you have a neighbor in view from the front porch and another from the back deck. That can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for. We were looking for seclusion so that was a bit of a surprise. Otherwise, a beautiful cabin and area.

Perfect getaway

Perfect view. Quietest cabin I have stayed at. The cabin has everything you would need without the need for media. Remote and rustic cabin. The deck has everything you need to enjoy lazy vacation days. Slow internet and no streaming are acceptable because this cabin gets you away from your phone. We walked our dogs around the cabins many back roads and we loved the kayaks. The outside fire pit, the gas fire pit on the deck and the gas fire place inside give you that great cabin feel. . Highly recommended

Awesome stay!

We stayed at the Lazy Elk cabin and we absolutely loved it. It was very peacefuland quiet. The cabin was beautiful. We loved the outdoor pool table and hot tub. We rented the pontoon for 2 days during our stay, and had a great time riding around the lake. On the days we did not use the pontoon we were out riding our Harley in the surrounding area. The views from the cabin are breath taking and the scenery near the cabin is gorgeous as well. We loved every minute of our stay in the Lazy Elk cabin. The only suggestion I would make to the owners is to change the name of the cabin to Heaven on Earth ; because that is exactly what the Lazy Elk is. Thank you for allowing us to rent your cabin. We cannot wait until we can return to this amazing place!

The most beautiful place

We are in love with this place since the first moment until the end. The owners are the most sweet person that you can meet. Al the time they are in touch with you, with anything that you need. The space in the house are amazing, all details in the room, bathroom and kitchen. We went there for New Year's and we never going out to the town, because we felt that that you have everything there to be relax. This trip was our first time in the mountains and thanks God we founded the right place for that experience. The comfort of the bedroom was great, the kitchen she has everything that you need. The most beautiful view that you can see! All the entertainment for the whole family! I recommend this property 1000000 time. We just arrive and we are ready planning the next trip.

Nothing short of amazing!

This cabin was possibly one of the cleanest and well stocked with essentials I have ever experienced on a vacation. The view was absolutely unreal. The owners were great to communicate with and very friendly. We rented the pontoon boat all week, which is a must if you plan to get on the water. The entrance to the dock was a bit underwater at the beginning of the week due to the lake being so high as that area had seen a lot of rain. You could still walk through it, but it was knee-high and was a bit difficult when stepping in. By the middle of the week, the water had receded and you were able to step down without stepping into water. The dock is large and well kept with a sitting area, which we enjoyed. There was construction with another cabin off the back deck, but did not obstruct the view. The noise of machinery was literally the only downside, but we just went down to the lake during most days. Overall this was an amazing place to stay and I look forward to coming back!

Mountain Oasis

We cannot say enough positive words! The location is spectacular with a wonderful view of the lake and the Smoky Mountains. We especially appreciated the use of the ATV to ride to the private dock, which is on a secluded cove. Swimming and kayaking nearly every day were so enjoyable in the pure, clean waters of Fontana Lake. The cabin was very clean and well maintained. We were pleased to see it stocked so well! We had plenty of paper products, kitchen bags, and even shampoo, conditioner and body wash were supplied. They even had beach towels available for lake use and for the hot tub. We forgot to pack coffee filters (the one item) but were pleasantly surprised to find extras in the cabinet. Additionally, more than enough firewood is provided, which we appreciated the night we roasted marshmallows! The grill was immaculate and both dining on the deck and having our morning coffee there was something we relished. Nighttime was perfect for relaxing in the hot tub and enjoying the stars, sounds of nature and incredible views. We were blessed to have communication with our hosts. They were extremely responsive and a pleasure with which to interact. So pleased are we that we wasted no time in booking next summer. We cannot imagine a nicer or more beautiful place to be.
