We really enjoyed our stay. It had the nicest coffee bar of anywhere I have stayed with Vrbo. It was a cold weekend, but otherwise I would have enjoyed the front porch! The owners gave us good ideas of local places to visit. I would stay here again!
We had a wonderful stay! The house is very clean and decorated so charming!
When we come back to visit our daughter , we will definitely stay here again!
Thank you !
Very easy to check in and out, very comfortable spot overall! The air conditioning worked great and it was in an area with no light pollution so it gets nice and dark at night! So pretty! We absolutely loved staying and will definitely come back!
Garry was quick to respond to my requests, and exceptionally helpful at the property, making sure that our stay was perfect. We had a great time, and would definitely go back!
Stayed here for BU Homecoming weekend, off the beaten path but a lovely property and nice to be away from the hustle and bustle. Very welcoming, would stay again. Homestead Heritage nearby is a must-see. Thank you!
The cabin was beautiful and clean. It was extremely easy to find and a reasonable distance to all the places we planned to visit in waco. The owners were easy to communicate with. We would absolutely stay here again! Thanks for sharing your home/property with us.

Thank you, Stacie, for your kind words. We enjoyed having you. You were a great guest! We hope to see you again soon!
My family of 4 stayed the night before my daughter’s graduation from Baylor. It was a short stay, but a perfect fit for us. Everything was extremely clean, warm, and welcoming! Being only 15-20 minutes to get to campus and downtown Waco, we will definitely stay here again when we have more time!
This was our second time to stay in this adorable and cozy house! Perfect for my husband and I. We will definitely stay again! I love sitting on the porch and drinking my coffee in the mornings. Very clean! Thank you !
Cute little cabin in the woods! The trees and shrubs were beautiful! A little further from downtown than i thought, but it was worth it! The owner cane over and told us about a lot of other things to do and he was very kind! It was a great little get away!
This was our first time at this house, we were very pleased with the upkeep and supplies at the house to meet every need we had. The folks were very up front and willing to help us with any needs we may have had. We are planning to stay there again if given the opportunity.
We would highly recommend this property. Super comfortable and convenient to the city itself. Love the country touches. Only suggestion for the property owners would be to turn up the hot water heater, never felt hot enough.
AWESOME hosts and fantastic family.
Super clean, tranquility beyond words.
Perfect getaway. Charming property, absolute treasure.
Can't thank you enough for a wonderful stay.
Can't wait to get back for another stay.
Highly recommended to all ! 10 / 10.. 5 ☆

About the host
Hosted by Garry Stewart
Pursuing a simpler, more traditional life in the country was not always close to our hearts. My wife, Shoshana, grew up just 30 minutes from Manhattan. I grew up in major metropolitan cities such as Beirut, Singapore and Hong Kong. My parents were expats working overseas for an American corporation during the 1950s, 60s and 70s. I came to live in the U.S.A. for the first time in 1977 and settled in the New York City area. I was 18 years old.
Even before we married, both Shoshana and I made life changing decisions that led us away from the hyper-urbanism of the New York City metropolitan area and introduced us to a more traditional family life in a rural setting. After we married in 1978 and were expecting our first child, Shoshana left her career as "a Gibbs girl" in New York City to become a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom. (Such a radical "career move" was virtually unheard of in the 70s!) Still, the idea of having a large family fit perfectly with our desires to rediscover a more traditional family life. It also fit with our desires to experience a close-knit, intentional community life with neighbors and friends.
So, over the next 20 years, we ended up having eight children - five boys and three girls! We have been happily married for over 40 years and now have ten grandchildren.
“Songbird Haven," our two bedroom country cottage, is part of our story. It was originally built in 1990 to serve as our family workshop where I worked with my boys in the evenings making cutting boards and hand carved wooden spoons, which we sold at the Homestead Craft Village just three miles down the road. Eventually, one of our sons transformed the old wood shop into a comfortable starter home for himself and his bride.
After six years and three children of his own, my son moved to his own home just four miles away. And now, the old wood shop-turned-starter-home has been remodeled for Airbnb guests!
Why they chose this property
We lived in Waco nine years before purchasing our place in the country. We moved in 1999 to be closer to friends and the folks at Homestead Heritage Craft Village. As our homeschooled children grew older, they began taking classes at the craft village and even started working there full time after leaving school. Finding our 7-acre piece of land just three miles from the craft village was a God-send for us.
What makes this property unique
We are conveniently located less than three miles from Interstate 35 and 10 miles from the Silos, Magnolia Market and most of Waco's major attractions. Our favorite spot is just three miles from us at Cafe Homestead and Homestead Craft Village with its cluster of artisan craft shops. We encourage all our guests to make time for breakfast or lunch at Cafe Homestead, one of the finest farm-to-table restaurants in Texas, as well as a walking tour of the craft village to see the artisans working in the Potter's House, the School of Woodworking, the blacksmith shop, gristmill, Fiber Craft Shop, Basket Shop and cheese shop. Songbird Haven is located in a quiet country setting surrounded by farms and small homesteads. The cottage is located on a circle driveway at the entrance to our property. Friends and neighbors travel the paved country road next to the farmhouse. We live on the same property behind the farmhouse with our grown son. We also have a tiny house on our property, which our son hosts through Airbnb. While Songbird Haven offers lots of peaceful privacy, you may see a guest drive by or one of us mowing, pruning trees, feeding the chickens and ducks and such. We are surrounded by paved country roads that makes our farmhouse easily accessible by car. Aside from the Silos and Magnolia Market, the Dr. Pepper Museum, Baylor football stadium and the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame are 12-15 minutes away. Waco's Cameron Park Zoo is one of the most beautiful in Texas. Cameron Park itself, located along the Brazos River, is a favorite destination for mountain bike enthusiasts, as well as hikers. The Waco Mammoth National Historic Site is just six miles away, too. Swimming, fishing, camping and water sports abound in and around Waco. We are 10 miles from the BSR Cable Park and Surf Resort, 11 miles from Lake Waco and 17 miles from beautiful Lake Whitney, a 24,000 acre reservoir.
