SKAGIT VALLEY ATTRACTIONS / APRIL TULIP FESTIVAL
Skagit County is internationally known to artists and photographers for its magical landscapes and the annual April Tulip Festival.

Located just off I-5 highway, the city of Mount Vernon is a convenient home-base for travelers who want to explore. Day trips can be made to Seattle (60 miles to the south), San Juan Islands (to the west), Cascade Mountains/Mount Baker recreation (to the east) or Bellingham (home of WWU) and Vancouver, Canada (90 miles to the north).

Five Cedars Retreat is 7 miles (travel by car or bike) from the Skagit tulip farms on the west side of the city of Mount Vernon. Your host can provide travel advice. Staying in Mount Vernon gives you the opportunity to see the tulips during sunrise and sunset when fewer tourists are present.

YOUR HOME-BASE
Five Cedars Retreat is an inviting, one-bedroom apartment nestled in the daylight basement level of a 1950's Cape Cod house. Your first impression will be the sight of five old cedar trees sheltering a cheerful blue house with a red door. The host lives in the house on the upper floors.

You will have an assigned parking space and your own private entrance door into the apartment. Note- This basement level apartment has low ceilings- 6 ft 8 in (198 centimeters) in the living room, bedroom, and kitchen. The bathroom ceiling is 6 ft (182 centimeters).

If you have sporting equipment such as a bike, ask the host about the availability of inside storage.

Great place in a great neighborhood!
Joan’s place was perfect for us. It’s an innovative remodel of a basement apartment that has lots of amenities in a wonderful, quiet neighborhood. Everything in nicely labeled and she has a great stainless steel coffee coffee filter for pour overs. Couldn’t suited us better!

Convenient, lovely stay in Mt. Vernon
My adult son and I had a terrific 3-day stay at Joan's well-acquainted, cute apartment, which had everything that we needed for a family visit in MV. Joan's place is spotless and well-stocked, and the queen bed is very comfortable. Joan was a fantastic hostess and communicated well before and during our visit, and we particularly appreciated her coronavirus precautions and communications. The apartment is in a quiet neighborhood with a long walking/biking path a short walk away, and the location is terrific for any stay in MV or the valley -- close to downtown and the river, and not far from the West side fields, Big Lake, and surrounding towns. Although there is no TV in the apartment, we were able to stream a couple of movies on personal devices using the wifi provided (occasionally spotty but worked itself out). We are hoping to have the opportunity to stay again. Thank you, Joan!

About the host

Host profile image
Being a host gives me the opportunity to meet guests who are in town for a family event or vacationing in Washington. Guests may visit during the April Tulip Festival, or use the apartment as their base while they explore the north (Bellingham, WA and Vancouver, B.C.), the east (North Cascades), the west (San Juan Islands), or the south (Everett and Seattle, WA).

Why they chose this property

The neighborhood has mature trees and it looks like a forest on aerial maps. I named the house Five Cedars Retreat due to the five sheltering cedar trees at the front of the property. The house sits on a hill, east of I-5 highway, and it is a short drive to downtown Mount Vernon. The tulip farms are on the west side of I-5 highway.

What makes this property unique

Five Cedars Retreat is in a Mount Vernon house that was built in 1950. The second owners raised their family of three children in this house, and they owned the house from1952-2005. This family planted many of the plants around the house.
During 2020, one of the grown children of this family booked a stay at Five Cedars Retreat. It was such a treat to ask her about her memories of the house!
