About this property
Lakeview Villa, 4 Bed Villa On Koggala Lake. Great Views. Private Pool. Chef.
4 bedroom villa, sleeps 8. Set in 1.5 acre tropical garden with spectacular views across Koggala Lake, near Galle. Peaceful and secluded setting, but only 10 minutes from the beach by tuktuk. Great wildlife viewing. 50ft infinity swimming pool. Exceptional cook. All meals at cost. All bedrooms have lake views, aircon, fans, mosquito net & ensuite. 4G wifi. TV /games room and library. Please see new video of Lakeview Villa Ahangama at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf11ciha8CE.
Ideal for those wanting a relaxing getaway, the villa is situated in a stunningly beautiful location on a hillside overlooking Koggala lake, just over a mile from the beach and 30 minutes from Galle, but in total tranquillity, far away from the noise and crowds. It is accessed via a 200m track through the cinnamon plantations which are the only neighbours.
There are 4 staff: Sonali (Cook/ housekeeper) and her husband, Lasantha, who looks after the house and swimming pool, Raja the gardener and Saman, the nightwatchman.
Sonali speaks excellent English and will ensure you have a wonderful time. She is an exceptional cook, who has published her own cookbook and will prepare all your meals and shop for you, if you wish. All dietary requirements and preferences can be catered for. Meals are not included in the rental price, but the only additional cost is for the ingredients and transport. Try a seafood BBQ on the sun terrace, fuelled by coconut shells.
Sonali and Lasantha will also be happy to offer the following services at additional cost:
Cookery lessons
Birthday and other bespoke celebration cakes
Fireworks
Babysitting
We have no immediate neighbours other than cinnamon plantations. There is a small village at the back of the inlet to the side of the villa, but the prevailing sounds come from the peacocks, families of monkeys and the gentle chanting from the nearest temple, drifting across the lake. The garden is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers. Monkeys, mongooses and monitor lizards are regular visitors and a special attraction is the evening fly-past of hundreds of fruit bats. On a clear night the lack of light pollution makes stargazing a must.
If you can tear yourself away from the villa, the area provides plenty to do, whatever the length of your stay. Take a boat trip (either local style or motorised) on the lake. Walk (30 minutes) or tuktuk (under 10 minutes) to the nearest beach. Within a maximum of 30 minutes or so from the villa you can enjoy swimming, surfing, snorkelling, diving, watersports, go whalewatching, go shopping, do yoga, a canoe or cycling tour, visit restaurants, Galle Fort, spice gardens, temples, museums, a tea plantation or a turtle hatchery. Further afield are the national parks at Yala, Udawalawe, Sinharaja, Bundala and many more, but if all that sounds too strenuous, just curl up in a hammock with a book, or have a massage.
Arrive by sea plane from Colombo airport and land on the lake, 15 minutes from the villa, or transfer by road in about 2 hours.
From the villa all transport, either by tuk tuk or minivan, is easily arranged on request. Please note that access to the property is via a narrow, unmade road/ track with cinnamon plantations on each side. A long, narrow 10 seater minivan can get up the track, but nothing larger. In the event of any problems we will bring guests and luggage the final part of the journey by tuktuk. There is limited parking on site.
